Book Butterfly

One day, in a normal house, there was Fey, a girl who despises reading, in a family who loved it. She was like an undeveloped caterpillar in a garden full of butterflies. Growing through plants or books, which she hated. She didn't mind if she was undeveloped, although her father, Jon, cared a lot for her.

Jon did everything he could for Fey to like reading. He tried reading her books, recommending some, and even trying to swiftly mention something about books in every conversation. He wanted her to grow up to be a butterfly too, someone who could survive adulthood. He knew that if Fey didn’t start reading now, she would find growing up difficult.

But Fey just wouldn't budge; she even went as far as to sneak in her father’s room and steal his favorite books with the intention of burning them. She ran to their kitchen and burned them right on the stove, and before Jon knew it, his favorite books were gone. He was shocked that his daughter, whom he took care of since birth, went her way to destroy his books, with only the reason of hating reading.

For a while after the incident, Jon started ignoring Fey, spending less family time, and no more days where he encouraged Fey to read. Fey was glad that her dad stopped bothering her about books. However, she often thinks to herself, “Was it worth it enough to lose my bond with my father?”.

Fey felt really guilty. She hadn't talked to her father for a long time, and she missed the bond with her father before she ruined everything. She figured that maybe if she started to read, their bond would be fixed.

But Fey wasn’t the only one going through difficult times, Jon also missed when his daughter was nice, and wasn’t controlled by her hate for reading. He often fears that he was the reason that his daughter acted that way.

After all the guilt, Fey decided to do something about it and tried remembering the books her dad originally owned, before she burned them. She used her own money and immediately bought them. She started reading the books daily, to understand her dad more. She felt bored at first, reading daily was new to her. But as time passed, she learned why her dad loved reading so much.

Before reading, Fey used to be uneducated, had a low vocabulary, and very little creativity, all which she needed to grow up. Now that she started reading, Fey was much more ready to grow up, her knowledge increased with her creativity. Her dad really just wanted to be a good parent and guide Fey the right way as she grows up.

After realizing that reading was important, Fey earned the courage to face her dad. She started apologizing endlessly, and told her dad about her journey in reading. She even gave her books as a sorry gift for burning his original ones.

Jon, of course, accepted her apology. But not just because they were related. But because he was proud that Fey finally started loving reading, a guide for her to grow up, with or without Jon. He knew that his daughter would grow up to be a beautiful butterfly, intelligent, creative, and strong, no longer stuck in the phase of a caterpillar.
