  She watches Lo Jik retrieve a bone-white sac with a milky glow. The Rank 4 Milk-Bone Sac Gu. He tosses it inside the Milk Vat, devouring all the Gu and the Milk Spring as they leave.

  “What about this?” Bai Ning Bing sighs as she stares at the Earthen Pot. According to the Bone Flesh Unity Gu recipe, several rare Rank 4 Gu are inside the Pot. These Gu are hibernating. Once they lift the seal from the pot, these Gu will awaken and need food. Leaving these Rank 4 Gu is such a waste!

  “What about them?” Lo Jik ughs. There are almost 70 Gu inside the Pot. He cannot store them inside his Kindling Will Gu. But—

  “We’ll just carry the pot,” he reveals.

  “Have you lost your mind?” Bai Ning Bing snaps. “Tie Cnsmen are chasing after us. We don’t have the appropriate strength to fight back. They might also kill us on the spot to control the Bone Flesh Unity Gu’s recipe. How can we escape them with this pot without leaving any traces?”

  Lo Jik gnces at her with a fttering smile.

  “That’s why I like you, Ning Bing. You considered all this before taking the Footless Bird, right?”

  “You think I’m a fool?!” She hisses. “Like I would be goaded into using a precious Rank 3 Gu! Hmph! Pay for it! 70% of the cost. Don’t forget I waited for you.”

  “And where were you pnning to go without me?” Lo Jik rolls his eyes. “I won’t lie, Bai Ning Bing. I wanted the Footless Bird before you took it. I have an exciting location pnned for us. That location will give us time to digest these gains. The Footless Bird will also allow us to escape our pursuers for a long while.”

  Bai Ning Bing frowns. “60%”

  “Think,” Lo Jik smiles, approaching her and smoothly coiling an arm around her shoulders. He waves his other hand at the ceiling.

  “That’s a mysterious location only Rank 5 Gu Masters can explore. But I have a way to do the same. We might even get a few Strength Gu. Didn’t you compin about cking stamina? You can cover that weakness there!”

  Her gaze glitters before she snorts and follows him to the precipice.

  Tie No Ting’s expression is terrible as he gazes at the fist-sized mosquito corpses on the bone ground. Bai Lin’s expression isn’t any better.

  “Bastard!” she curses. “How did that Bastard do that?!”

  “Ease your heart, Leader Bai,” Tie No Ting sighs bitterly. “Gu Yue Lo Jik has an insidious heart. He may already be a Demonic Gu Master. It’s not unsurprising. But look on the bright side. The discovery in this cave should be more than enough to recover your losses.”

  Bai Lin grounds her jaws. Her eyes are bloodshot as Tie No Ting sighs. He gnces at his team before nodding.

  “Leader Bai, we must leave and chase that Demonic Menace. He must have an unknown partner. We can’t slow our search.”

  “Please find him,” Bai Lin thins her lips. “I want him to suffer!”

  Tie No Ting nods and leaves.

  Only when TIe No Ting leaves does Bai Lin exhale loudly. Three elders remain around her instead of the original six. However, all of their eyes reveal a strange excitement.

  ‘Oh, Lo Jik! Oh, Unchained! May Heaven lead you to mighty success!’ Bai Lin trills internally. Lo Jik is her Cn’s benefactor. How can she be angry? The sacrifices and her act were necessary. If the Tie Cn’s group suffered more, they would have sent someone from their cn to extract the natural spring. However, Bai Lin and Tie No Ting combined their strength to kill the Bone Sucking Mosquito group! Bai Lin’s losses would have been severe without Tie No Ting.

  Above the mortals are Gu Masters. Those that travel alone are Lone and Demonic Gu-Masters. However, the Righteous Faction can be cssified into—Super, Large, Mid, and Small Cns.

  The small cns are recently born and require many Rank 1 and Rank 2 Gu Masters to create an efficient system.

  The Mid-Sized Cns have a Rank 4 Cn Leader. Producing two Rank 5 Gu Masters in the past, the Gu Yue Cn was partially a Large Cn. Even Cns like the Bai Cn near the Bai Gu are the same despite possessing better comprehensive strength.

  The Large Cns possess a Rank 5 Gu Master as a head and 2-3 Spirit Springs to control an Entire Mountain. The Jia Cn, Jia Fu’s Home, is a Large Cn created by his father. Among the several Large Cns, the Jia Cn is young and may be lowered in rank after Jia Fu’s Father’s demise.

  Super Cns? It’s not something a Large Cn can transition into with wealth and territory alone. It’s said that Gu Immortals support these Super Cns! Shang Cn and Tie Cn are Super Cns. However, there are more Super-Sized Cns in the Southern Border.

  But the ecosystem of the Southern Border doesn’t allow these cns to interact. How do they grow without external trade?

  Trading and a marketpce are necessary for growth!

  Caravans.

  Caravans are a prospect open for Large and Super Cns. These caravans move around a pnned route, exchanging goods from different cns and allowing the Southern Border to prosper. As one might expect, these caravans are also cssified between mid, rge, and super caravans.

  Middle-sized caravans are led by an alliance of Rank 3 Gu Masters of various Cns. Conversely, it can also be led by a Rank 4 Gu Master. The Gu Yue Cn annually received a middle-sized caravan under Rank 4 Jia Fu’s lead. These caravans also prefer trading with Mid and Small-Sized Cns due to a bance in power. Their route covers a small portion of one of the six regions.

  Large-sized caravans are led by an alliance of a Rank 4 Gu Masters of various cns or a Rank 5 Gu Master. These caravans openly deal with the rge cns they are in friendly retions with, moving throughout their home region. Super-sized cns like the Shang Cn can send two or three caravans annually! Meanwhile, Large-sized cns pn their products for a long time, only sending Large Caravans once every few years.

  Meanwhile, Super Caravans only deal with other Super-sized cns—capable of charting the entire Southern Border.

  Knowing this is necessary for Lo Jik’s recent needs. The duo has too many gains. Although they can be wasteful and let some of their Gu die… why would they do that? Shang Cn is far away and will take several months to reach alone. However, they can enter a Caravan that suits their needs. This will allow them to feed their more important and expensive Gu. It will also let them travel a small portion of the Southern Border and other cns without being hounded by the local Gu Masters.

  But why would a caravan let them enter?

  Jik and Bing have suspicious origins. Nobody in their right mind would allow that.

  Unless they make the conditions favorable.

  How can they make conditions favorable? By adequate preparations. And for preparations, the duo need time and a retively safe location.

  Reaching the Shang Cn is their primary objective. It’s how to arrive at the Cn while maintaining their gains that need work!

  A giant bone-white creature fps its wings, entering a region covered by thick fog. This creature has an Eagle’s head and a crane’s body. There are no limbs on it aside from its bone wings. Its body can effortlessly support two adults. Bck stripes litter its surface, making this creature’s makeup simir to a zebra from Lo Jik’s homeworld.

  This creature glides and nds on the ground, dragging moist soil and fresh grass. The thick mist may be problematic for others, but not Lo Jik. He observes his surroundings before muttering, “I can’t see a damn thing.”

  Meanwhile, the bird under their body turns into ashes.

  Rank 3 Footless Bird.

  This consumable Rank 3 Steed Gu can fly thousands of kilometers and is only outmatched by Rank 5 Gu!

  Bai Ning Bing looks around with a curious expression. “So this is the Fei Hou Mountain,” she whistles. “I only read about it in the books. Why are we here?”

  Lo Jik sniffs deeply before touching the soil. An odd look fshes in his eyes before he looks around as if searching for something. He swiftly picks a direction and carries the earthen pot. “Let’s go there.”

  Bai Ning Bing rolls her eyes. There are times when Lo Jik refuses to give her a straight answer. But it doesn’t lower her curiosity for Fei Hou Mountain.

  The direction Lo Jik picks leads the duo to a massive boulder. He nods at this. Lo Jik sets the pot aside and retrieves the Eight-Sectioned Gourd. Under Bai Ning Bing’s curious gaze, he pours Bamboo Wine into a rge bowl before pcing the bowl on the rock.

  ‘What is he doing?’ She blinks.

  “Do you know why the Fei Hou Mountain is famous?” Lo Jik questions as he looks around.

  “Everyone knows. It’s one of the three most important trade routes in the entire Southern Border.”

  Caravans must map a retively safe route to carry their goods. Originally, Fei Hou Mountain was a death zone for caravans. Other mountains have different beast groups to keep others in check. However, Fei Hou Mountain was controlled by the Bandit Monkeys. This Mountain is also at a strategic point, connecting one of the massive tributaries of the Yellow Dragon River without others needing to cross the dangerous waters.

  When Gu Masters were troubled, a figure from the Righteous faction rose.

  He was a Rank 5 Gu Master—Sky Marquis Crown. He scaled Fei Hou Mountain and used the Monkey Language Gu to come to an agreement with the Bandit Monkey Emperor. This opened one of the safest routes in the Southern Border, connecting East to West. A caravan often passes this Mountain’s valley. This spot can be used by Lo Jik and Bai Ning Bing to enter a Caravan.

  “The Bandit Monkeys are strong, but they are also somewhat intelligent,” Bai Ning Bing recites what she learned with a bored expression. “Their favorite activity is arm wrestling. An infant Bandit Monkey can arm wrestle at his birth. These monkeys also use arm wrestling to resolve several issues. Back then, Sky Crown Marquis arm wrestled up to the Monkey Emperor, defeating him in an arm-wrestling contest and opening this trade route.” Her expression draws her uncertainty. “Are you here to arm wrestle with these monkeys.”

  “What you said is public knowledge. The Gu Yue Cn had two Rank 5 Gu Masters. Remember that fucked-up ancestor?”

  “Who wouldn’t?” She snorts.

  “The Mo Family got some of his old records,” Lo Jik lies. He learned this from the journal of the Crazed Blood Monk. “What Sky Crown Marquis did was open a public path. However, the Bandit Monkey society is old. Legends say they originate from a Gu Immortal.”

  “An Immortal?” Bai Ning Bing’s gaze widens.

  “There are old traditions in the Bandit Monkey Society pointing to human interference. Many Rank 5 Gu Masters studied these beasts to gain crucial information about the Gu Immortal who might have raised them. Like in every society, we must introduce ourselves. The Bandit Monkeys have a peculiar way of doing that.”

  Lo Jik takes a huge breath. His chest rises, and his stomach inftes before he shocks Bai Ning Bing with a loud call!

  *AAAAAAAAaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaa*

  His loud voice echoes.

  It’s already dark, and the thick mist surrounds everything.

  “What the fuck was that?” Bai Ning Bing hisses.

  “A man’s dream to shout a primal call in the woods,” Lo Jik shrugs. He could have shouted in any manner, but he used the Tarzan tempte.

  Bai Ning Bing’s expression changes as she hears low thumps and gowls. The sound of pushed trees and broken branches fills her senses as she prepares for a battle. Their trained ears hear a loud ‘whoosh’ before something Giant nds ahead. The creature’s momentum and sudden nding shake the earth. The wine bowl atop the rock trembles as the mist parts slightly, revealing a muscur, yellow-furred beast with bck tiger stripes. Its body is easily ten meters tall. Its fur dangles down like a skirt as the creature thumps its chest!

  A hundred-beast king!

  The Monkey King opens his mouth and roars!

  Lo Jik quietly picks up his Wine Bowl and takes it to the stone bench next to the Monkey King. The Monkey King also sits on one side of the stone table.

  Bai Ning Bing observes carefully.

  Unsurprisingly, Lo Jik’s hand looks like a twig compared to the Monkey King’s massive arm. But Bai Ning Bing notices something. Since the Monkey is massive. His posture is awkward to accommodate the size difference. He cannot reveal his full strength. Lo Jik has an advantage.

  The female bandit monkey shouts as the Monkey King flexes his arm.

  *BANG*

  The crowd goes silent as Lo Jik’s retively thin hand sms the Monkey King’s hand on the stone table.

  ‘At least show some exertion. What if the Bandit Monkey attacks?’ Bai Ning Bing curses when Lo Jik’s ugh resounds in the silent mountain region.

  How can a Monkey King compare to him?

  “From now on, we can return to this spot and challenge Bandit Monkeys for their goods. The best part is they won’t steal from us. They will inspect what we bet before offering something that they think is a fair price.” He ughs, patting the stone vat. “For instance, exchanging a rge vat of precious monkey wine for a bowl of bamboo wine.”

  Bai Ning Bing finally realizes their potential, as Lo Jik adds with a wicked smirk. “These Bandit Monkeys are also our way into a caravan. We already have the Monkey Language Gu. Do you know what else we can trade?”

  “Services!” She gushes. The instant realization makes her body tremble. “We can use these Monkeys to search various Gu!”

  Lo Jik nods.

  “Why don’t other Cns use this loophole?” Bai Ning Bing frowns, suspecting something.

  “Even I don’t know. And I don’t intend to mindlessly explore things that Rank 5 Gu Masters cannot exhaust.”

  Lo Jik shrugs.

  “Hmph, unless there’s a female involved.”

  “Yep,” Lo Jik shrugs shamelessly. “Let’s find ourselves a cave. We’ll be here for long. Also, we need to search for the Rank 3 Bandit Monkey Strength Gu alongside Rank 2 Monkey Mask Gu.”

  “Be sure to lend me the Monkey Language Gu. I’ll challenge regur monkeys.” She grins.

  “Do that after using one Rank 1 Strength Gu,” Lo Jik scoffs. “I won’t help if you lose and get chased out. Besides, our challengers will be random. What will you do if the Monkey King shows up?”

  “Don’t think of it as a waste. We have temporary peace here. Let’s make the best of it, Ning Bing.”
