Chapter 5: Devils Wear Red

The Demon started laughing, holding his stomach as his shoulders bounced. “Are you serious!? What was that!? Some sort of display of heroism?” He continued laughing.

“For a moment I was worried, I will admit. But if you were REALLY going to banish me you would have done it by no-”

  BANG!

The Demon looked over at his shoulder where he felt a searing pain. A gaping round wound that went through and through his shoulder where it connected to his torso. He looked at the source, behind Serena Ash was holding up his rifle.

“I wouldn’t suggest fighting with me, boy.”

The demon snarled and grabbed a citizen of the town by the face. A woman. She started sobbing and begging him to let her go. Before the two could react to defend the demon was shoving his other hand through and into her chest. His eyes glowed white as he did. He pulled out another orb… It’s another soul!

He downed it and his eyes shifted to red, power was surging through him as the woman went limp and collapsed. He was getting his power from consuming the souls of mortals.

“I suggest one more time, for you to bow down, and serve me witch.” The Demon said looking at her.

Serena’s hand was trembling again, the fear was strong, this Demon was strong. She’d never seen it before and she always thought she couldn’t do magic! Now all of a sudden she was creating swords from a stick and hearing the sounds of people telling her what to do!

  “I will not bow.”

Serena said holding the sword with a tighter grip.

“I will never bow to evil!”

The Demon grumbled holding his shoulder, removing his hand after a moment and revealing the wound was now closed and healed.

  “Shame.”

He raised his right hand as a wire burst up from the ground under Serena and wrapped around her torso, then threw her aside and into a building. The crowd gasped seeing the witch who was trying to defend them get cast aside so easily… Falling over themselves and starting to now run!

The Demon grabbed ahold of people and took souls from their bodies to consume in the chaos… Ash was taking shots at the Demon as he did, but the more souls he ate the more he became resilient to the shots. He growled at Ash but ignored him. For some reason, he wasn’t interested in trying to take the soul he had.

Serena was thrown far off… The sounds of screams began to wake her. She got up off the ground, holding her spinning head. She heard her name.

  “Serena! Serena get up!”

  Ash…? “Ash?”

No. It was that woman from before.. White hair and violet eyes.. Like his.

  “Angel?” Serena asked.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

  Angel helped Serena up.

“I’ve been watching from my shop! We need to act fast Serena!”

Serena was still holding her head, she looked back at the building she fell into. There was a huge creator in it. God, how hard was she thrown? She must have broken ribs there's no way she could be ok after that! How was she even standing?

  “What... What do we do!?”

  Angel shook her head.

  “It’s what you do Serena!”

She looked around and picked up her wooden wand, it had returned to its original state after Serena was flung through the air.

“He’s on a rampage and your friend has been taking shots at him to no avail… However, I notice something.”

  Serena looked at Angel.

  “What’s that?”

Angel waved to Serena to come closer, and when she did Angel pointed to The Demon.. Bullets were flying by him though he was shielding only one thing. That third eye.

“His eye must be a weak spot. Create a small dagger instead of a sword! Do you think you can?”

Serena didn’t even know how she made the sword, and she wasn’t hearing

voices anymore. She only stared at Angel and gave an awkward look.

Angel smiled and shook her head.

“Don’t worry about it, take this.”

She handed over a silver dagger with lavender gems engraved into it.

Serena took the blade and nodded, Angel pushing her along.

“Hurry! Please! He’s taken at least a dozen mortal souls!”

  Serena halted.

“But Angel, wait, please… What is he?”

Angel was nervous, time was being wasted so she spoke quickly.

“There are many evils in this world Miss Light, and I can say one thing. All Demons wear suits, all Demons create mischief. But there are rankings of these beasts.. And Devils. Devils wear red.”

Serena’s eyes widened, she turned and ran. This wasn’t Satan, she could tell that much. But rankings of Demons? Devils wear red? He must be strong, that's why he called himself a “Devil” earlier.

The Devil was about to swallow yet another soul, holding it above his head, tongue sticking out and jaw unhinged… Serena rushed toward him with the dagger. The Devil’s attention caught and looking over to Serena, he closed his mouth and grinned.

  “Back for more good witch?”

Serena grunted and jumped up and threw the dagger at him, his guard down, thinking she was nothing more than an ant. With no true power only all talk. The dagger went straight into his third eye before he could deflect it. He dropped the soul, it shattering on impact when it hit the ground. He stumbled back and held his eye pulling out the dagger and throwing it down. Serena landed and watched him struggle. Her cloak wrapped all around her.

  “YOU BITCH!”

  He screamed.

“YOU DON’T KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES TO REGENERATE THIS! FUCK!”

  BANG!

Another shot to his gut, The Devil gripping it and snarling. He was weakened and Ash took the shot, then ran to Serena’s side.

“Like she said. Go back to hell, we banish you. Devil.”

The Devil looked at the two... Giving a low growl… The people of the town watched from shadows as he began to retract to the shadows.

  “This isn’t over... Witch.”

The Devil would vanish, having left a dozen dead in his wake, though Serena and Ash had won. Serena looked around feeling like they lost. Seeing so many dead. She fell to her knees the exhaustion hitting her.

Ash put his rifle on his back and frowned… This wasn’t a win, and they just made a powerful enemy on top of it.

People started to walk out from the shadows and walk towards the bodies of the dead that surrounded Serena and Ash. Families kneeling next to the dead and sobbing. A few walked up to Serena and Ash and gave quiet thanks for driving the Devil away.

Serena didn’t respond, she didn’t deserve these thank yous. After a long while of silence footsteps came close... A woman wearing a purple dress with long white hair

approached them. Picking up the silver dagger off the ground, and handing Serena’s wand to her that she still held in her hands.

“Let’s get you two cleaned up... Come with me quickly. Before the people start a riot of anger over the dead.”

Serena rose and followed in silence, Ash walked by her side... The cries filled the air. A somber win.
