Chapter 46: Once Reflected on Returning Clouds

Nanhua Vilge was Zhuang Zi'ang's hometown, where his grandparents lived. He spent his winter and summer vacations in that beautiful vilge. His few happy childhood memories were all left there.

This time, Zhuang Zi'ang couldn't wait for summer vacation; he wanted to go back and take another look. Perhaps it would be his st time.

Su Yudiel originally thought that Zhuang Zi'ang would ask her to do something difficult. When she learned that it was just a trip, she happily agreed without hesitation. However, the precondition was that they had to be back before dark, to catch the 6:10 PM No. 19 bus.

Zhuang Zi'ang pyed with Su Yudiel's braid and took off the red string that brought good luck from his wrist, tying a bow at the end of her braid. His method of tying a bow was taught to him by his grandfather when he was a child, when he was learning to tie his shoeces. It was a bit complicated and clumsy.

Later, he saw a girl cssmate tie a bow in a much simpler way. It was like a magic trick; a couple of twists with her hands, and it was done. He tried to learn it for a long time but never mastered it, so he eventually gave up. Because that girl's bow was taught to her by her mother, and he had lost his mother long ago.

"The bow you tied is as ugly as ever," Su Yudiel pouted.

"What do you mean? They're exactly the same," Zhuang Zi'ang retorted, then quickly changed the subject. "I went to Xiaoyao Temple st week. I heard from the fortune-teller there that this string is from that pce."

"He's not a real Taoist priest, just a swindler. Only a fool would fall for his tricks," Su Yudiel ughed.

"I thought he had an air of a sage and quoted cssics in his speech. He didn't seem like a fraud, did he?" Zhuang Zi'ang said, cking confidence.

"Just tell me straight, how much money did you get scammed out of, Big Dummy?"

  "Uh... ten yuan."

Su Yudiel's loud ughter echoed across the grass. And he's the top student in the grade with that IQ?

Zhuang Zi'ang blushed and muttered to himself, Wasn't I just worried about you?

Thinking back to the Taoist priest that day, although he talked a lot and seemed to be well-reasoned and eloquent, it was all nonsense. It didn't help him find Little Butterfly's whereabouts at all.

Fortune-telling and divination were metaphysical things, full of ambiguity and pretense. Whether you believed it or not, it was just a way to buy peace of mind.

"By the way, I met an old dy there who sells snacks. Her tofu pudding is delicious. Do you know her?" Zhuang Zi'ang asked.

"No, I don't know her. I've never seen her," Little Butterfly shook her head.

Zhuang Zi'ang was puzzled. It was strange that she knew the Taoist priest but not the tofu pudding dy. He had originally thought the two were working together, engaging in some kind of bundled sales.

Su Yudiel patted her chest. "If you want to eat tofu pudding, you don't need to spend money. The tofu pudding I make is even better than what they sell outside."

Zhuang Zi'ang asked with a smile, "You know how to make tofu pudding?"

"Of course, it's very simple. Soak the soybeans overnight, grind them into soy milk with a stone mill, filter and remove the foam, put it in a pot and stir while boiling, let it cool slightly after boiling, add some brine, and let it sit until it solidifies..."

Su Yudiel expined it step-by-step, not forgetting to ask at the end, "Isn't it simple?"

Zhuang Zi'ang was dumbfounded and mumbled, "Yes... it's quite simple." He had seen people in his vilge make tofu when he was young.

Tofu pudding was a semi-finished product of tofu, with slightly fewer steps, but it still seemed incredibly complicated to him. With all that effort, wouldn't it be better to just buy a bowl?

However, recalling the scene of Su Yudiel making a kite, he understood this girl again. She must really enjoy the process. Turning ordinary soybeans into white, tender tofu pudding was a magical experience.

I suddenly really want to eat her tofu... pudding.

The snting sun shone on the ground, and the water flowed silently. Time was quietly blown away by the riverside breeze.

Seeing that it was almost six o'clock, it was time to part again. Zhuang Zi'ang accompanied Su Yudiel to the bus stop. After much deliberation, he finally said, "I have nothing to do anyway. How about I take you home?"

Little Butterfly shook her head. "No, I'm not a child. I can go back by myself."

"I just want to spend more time with you!" Zhuang Zi'ang tugged at Little Butterfly's wrist, acting like a spoiled child.

Little Butterfly stared intently into Zhuang Zi'ang's eyes, pointed a finger at his nose, and said, "Are you pnning to follow me home, then say you're tired and want to come in for a drink, then linger around and not leave, stay overnight at my pce, and then try to take advantage of me in the middle of the night?"

Zhuang Zi'ang blushed and stammered, "N-no, I didn't think that at all."

Little Butterfly giggled. "Why are you so flustered? I was just teasing you!"

Zhuang Zi'ang gred at her, pouting. You've already slept at my pce twice, but you won't tell me where you live.

And you got drunk and stole my first kiss, then acted like nothing happened. Aren't you just a little hooligan?

The No. 19 bus turned the corner, and they had to part. Su Yudiel said softly, "Alright, I'll come find you again tomorrow."

"Please don't disappear for a long time again," Zhuang Zi'ang said, reluctant to let go.

"I won't. If something comes up, I'll tell you in advance," Su Yudiel took a few steps, then turned back and waved. "Goodbye, Big Dummy!"

The bus slowly drove away, kicking up a few fallen leaves on the road. In the evening sky, both the sun and the moon could be seen at the same time.

As the poem goes, "The bright moon was there at that time, once reflecting the returning colorful clouds."

After dinner, Zhuang Zi'ang returned to his rented room and called his grandfather. The phone rang a few times before it was answered; it seemed that Zhuang Jianguo wasn't very proficient with his phone yet.

"Hello, who is this?" Zhuang Jianguo's aged voice came from the receiver. Although the phone had caller ID, he couldn't see it clearly and didn't know who was calling.

"Grandpa, it's me!" As soon as Zhuang Zi'ang spoke, his nose started to tingle.

"Zi'ang, did your dad bully you again?" Zhuang Jianguo asked immediately.

"No, Grandpa, I haven't gone back since you left that day," Zhuang Zi'ang replied.

"Sigh, a good family, turned into this," Zhuang Jianguo sighed with regret. The old man had worried about his children and grandchildren all his life, but when faced with such a situation, he didn't know how to resolve it.

Zhuang Wenzhao was in his forties, not a child anymore. He really couldn't control him; he felt powerless.

Zhuang Zi'ang said, "Grandpa, I'm coming back to see you on Saturday."

"Really?" Zhuang Jianguo's voice was filled with surprise, but then he hesitated. "Your studies are important. If you don't have time, you don't have to come back. Your grandma and I are fine."

"I miss Grandma's cooking," Zhuang Zi'ang said, trying to keep his tone light.

"Alright then, I'll tell your grandma to prepare early," Zhuang Jianguo said happily, his voice filled with ughter. Old people were like this; they looked forward to their children and grandchildren visiting them day and night. But they wouldn't say it out loud, telling them to focus on their work and studies instead.

"By the way, Grandpa, I have a friend coming back with me."

"Who is it? A boy or a girl?"

"You'll find out when the time comes!" Zhuang Zi'ang kept it a secret.

Little Butterfly is so adorable; Grandpa and Grandma will definitely like her.
