Eggscelent hatching

There were two heaps of eggs on the dragon's corpse. The heat already turned the eggs on the bottom into ash.

Slowly cracks appeared on the eggs surface.

Inside the egg was a small larvae biting through the soft shell of the egg.

The larvae had the shape of a small worm, its exterior shell glowed in a pale-white shimmer.

His front end had small mouth hooks - not big enough to bite its way through the shell.

On the rear end small bulges formed. Those small bulges will soon turn into spiracles, through which it breathes through. There are also smaller, less obvious bulges on the front, but clearly they haven't grown yet.

On the side small salvina glands started to grow, but the larvae simply didn't grow enough yet.

Hours passed. The front hooks were now big enough to break the egg's shell. The fly cracked the shell open and wriggled itself out thanks to his salvina glands. Having only a small instine in your body helped. Once the rear was out, the fly inhaled the air. The air outside smelled so fiendish, so foreign, compared to the cozy egg.

The larvae didn't know what to make out of those windows. To be honest, it probably didn't care. The streaks on a window don't interest him.

Its belly rumbled, and his instincs overtook him. He fulfilled the wishes of his body, and ate his egg's shell. It had no eyes, just a pair of hooks in the front, ready to eat. He couldn't see the massive corpse on the ground, waiting for the larvae to devour it.

He was still hungry even after he ate the egg, and so he turned downwards, where the corpses of the fly's babies lay. It didn't know the concept of cannibalism or any other ethical issue. The fly just ate to satisfy his stomach.

It placed its hooks against one of the eggs, trying to break through. The shell was hot, and he burnt himself.

A small flame on the tip of his hook died out. But the larvae was still hungry. It didn't care about the damage it received. It cracked the egg open and devoured the contents inside!

This time the heat didn't hurt him as much as before. He tasted the flesh, and it felt great. He was so excited, and immediately turned his hooks towards the other food sources - his other brothers and sisters.
