Chapter 46: By the Book with the Book

Amelia Bones sat behind her desk, the polished oak surface strewn with meticulously anized files and a steaming cup of tea. It was another extremely te night at the office without a doubt most of the mistry was already home by now. The Head of the Department of Magical Law Enfort was not aced to unpnned interruptions, yet the knock at her office door came with an urgency that dematention. She adjusted her moraightened her crimson robes, and called out firmly, “Enter.”

The door opened, and to her mild surprise, three teenagers walked in. She reized Harry Potter instantly—his messy hair, green eyes, and lightning-shaped scar were unmistakable. He was fnked by a posed young woman with sharp green eyes and a haughty air… Wait was that young Lady Crocell? It was hard to see at first but with her familiarity of the devil family it had some simirities… An then a third, a girl whose silver-blonde hair seemed to glow light the soft light of the moon in her dim office. All sighat this was not a welfare visit.

Before Amelia could speak, Harry stepped forward. “Madam Bohank you for seeing us on such short notice. We have something urgent to show you.”

Amelia leaned ba her chair, her curiosity piqued. “Potter. This a rather unscheduled visit.” Miss Boates standing up rather cautiously, but since you’re here, I assume it’s important. Who are your panions?”

“Daphne Greengrass,” the dark-haired girl said, ining her head with practiced politeness.

“And I’m Luna Lovegood,” the blonde added dreamily. “We’re here about a rat.”

  Amelia blinked. “A rat?”

Daphepped forward, her tone brisk. “Not just any rat, Madam Bones. Peter Pettigrew. The man everyone believes is dead.”

Amelia’s monoearly slipped from her eye. “What are you talking about? Pettigrew was killed by Sirius Bck over a decade ago.”

Harry walked foward setting his hands on the desk. “With respect, Madam Bohat’s what everyohinks. But Pettigrew didn’t die. He’s been hiding as a rat—Scabbers—living as a pet in the Weasley household.”

Luna stepped forward, holding a squirming figure ed in a jured magical binding. “And here’s the rat.”

With a quick flick of her wand, Amelia dispelled the bindings. A momehe rat transformed into a trembling, balding maer Pettigrew sat on the floor of her office, his watery eyes darting around for an escape route.

“Madam Bones!” he squeaked, throwing himself at her feet. “It’s not what it looks like! I—I expin!”

Amelia stared down at him, her expression unreadable, before drawing her wand. “You will expiigrew. To the Wizengamot.”

Daphne’s lips curled into a satisfied smirk. “Told you she’d listen.”

Amelia looked up sharply at the trio. “You three may have just uncovered one of the greatest injustices of our time. If what you’re saying is true, then Sirius Bck has been wrongfully imprisoned for twelve years. This will require immediate a.”

She aimed her wand at Pettigrew again, binding him with magical s. “And you, Pettigrew, will give your full testimony under Veritaserum. No more lies, no more hiding.”

Harry let out a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding. “So, what happens now?”

Amelia stood, her anding presence filling the room. “Now, I tact the Minister and arrange for an emergency session of the Wizengamot.”

Harry and Luna pause and look at one another. “This would be a great time to make out appearances into politics wouldnt it?” Harry asks a greek.

“I am more than ready as much as I would rather put it off.” Luna states agreeing.

“Madam Bones. Call the Meeting and You will have enough votes in your er to do whatever you wish.” Daphates uanding that her two lovers are about to cause a rather crazy political shit storm.

“Well, alright then. I will Owl Harry when it is time.” Madam Boates

“Owl me, Harry has mail redirect wards on him from Dumbledore.” Luna interjects.

Amelia raised an eyebrow at Luna’s interje, her monocle glinting in the light of her office. “Redirect wards? From Dumbledore?”

Luna nodded serenely. “Yes, he seems to have a habit of intercepting correspondence meant for Harry. It’s quite inappropriate, really.”

Harry grimaced but didn’t argue. “She’s n. He’s been... overly involved.”

Amelia’s expression hardened. “I see. That’s something I’ll o address, but not now. Miss Lovegood, I’ll ehe message reaches you directly.”

“Thank you, Madam Bones,” Luna said with a gentle smile.

Daphne, leaning casually against the desk, tapped her thoughtfully. “Madam Bones, if you’re pnning to call a Wizengamot session, you should be prepared for some resistahere are plenty of... less-thaable members who won’t be thrilled about the revetions this situation might bring.”

Amelia folded her arms, her anding presence growing even more pronounced. “I’m aware, Miss Greengrass. But if your—” she paused, gng between Daphne, Luna, and Harry, “—associates are pnning to lend their support, I’d say my position is signifitly strengthened.”

The three students nod before they are suddenly telep out through the apparition wards.

Amelia slumps ba to her seat letting out a sigh of relife she did not know she was holding.

Luna arrived in her dorm room, her silvery-blonde hair catg the soft moonlight that filtered through the window. The space was quiet and serehe hustle of the day fading into the stillness of the night. She let out a soft yawn, stretg her arms aaphysical wings—an unscious gesture that spoke of her weariness.

Luna paused mid-stretch, her silvery eyes drifting toward the small figure now standing in the er of her dorm room. The house-elf, no taller than her knees, had enormous, expressive eyes and wore a mismatched set of pillowcases as makeshift clothing. Its twitg hands and wide-eyed urgency betrayed a mixture of fear aermination.

“Misses Princess Horsie,” the elf repeated in its high-pitched voice, bowing low. “I have news about Dumbledore.”
