Vol. 2 (The long Road) Ch 6 The Demonic Festival Part 1 (incomplete)

Aaron was only out for a few minutes before he regained consciousness. He looked around seeing demons starting to clear the Arena’s ruble. The demon lord was standing in front of the General Aaron had just fought yelling at him. Aaron tried to listen until he felt the softness behind his head. He looked back and noticed that he was lying against Kraet who was holding him. She was nervously watching her father while slightly shaking.

She looked down at him as his face began to turn bright red. She smiled and laughed as he tried to get back up but unsteadily. Kraet quickly helped him to his feet and held his arm since he could not balance himself that well. He quickly grabbed out a stale crushed bread roll and ate it remembering that his stamina was low.

“take your time and rest Aaron you need it.”

He nodded to Kraet while chewing on the bread, “sorry…”

“No need to worry but we should get you back to your room.”

  “I’ll be fine.”

[“Do as she say’s to idiot!” Enae yelled.]

  [“I will…”]

[“You are an idiot for going berserk like that!” Kris growled.]

[“why is everyone calling me an idiot?!”]

[Laee laughed, “I don’t think you’re an idiot.”]

  [Aaron sighs, “thanks Laee.”]

[“Why did you go berserk Aaron?” Kraet asked worriedly.]

[“I don’t know.” he replied while thinking of his mothers family and when they get angry they usually blow up as their anger builds though this didn’t seem like it to him.]

Aaron quickly began eating another crushed piece of stale bread while looking over at the demon lord yelling the general.

“You should have killed him! Now you have dishonored the tournament and all demons by losing to the human pest.”

  “I am sorry my lord.”

“no your not you were against this fight from the very start… When I give an order you are to follow it!”

  “Yes my lord.”

The demon lord shook his head, “why didn’t you use your better skills.”

“I’m sorry my lord you told me to keep my limiter on at all times unless you change order otherwise, my lord.”

The demon lord stared at him for a moment, “Limiter… Limiter!!! I told you to kill by any means necessary even having the limiter removed.”

The demon lord continued to yell at the general for a while before heading towards Aaron and Kraet. He stopped with an angry expression looking at Kraet for a moment before staring at Aaron with a killing glare.

“Congratulations on winning the tournament… Chosen. You are the first human to compete in the tournament let alone win. Even with that I will not except your existence.”

  Kraet said angrily, “FATHER!!!”

The demon lord stared at her, “Be quiet fool girl I am keeping the promise of not killing him but he will be thrown out of our lands never to return by the end of this week.”

  “you cant father!”

“You cant not tell me what to do I am your father and the Demon lord, you will submit to this decision as chosen and heir to my throne.”

Kraet couldn’t say anything as the demon lord turned back to Aaron, “though you have skills and the ability to use them you and the rest of humanity are pests that need to be exterminated…” he sighed, “But as is custom as the winner of the tournament I must except you as a guest of honor to our annual ball tomorrow night.”

The demon lord quickly tuned away and headed to his attendants at the entrance to the arena while the General Aswar staid behind.

Aaron managed to level up 8 times from this tournament.

“It was an honor fighting against you Chosen though I wished we faced each other equally then the situation we were put in.”

“It would have been an honor… um I’m sorry but could you tell me your name.”

“Oh my apologies my name is Aswar and yours is Aaron is it not.”

  “yes it is.”

“then it has been an honor Aaron… Kraet I am sorry that your father would not accept Aarons right as your guest but I do agree with you and if need be I would support you in this matter.”

Kraet bowed her head, “Thanks Aswar but I believe my father is expecting you.”

They looked over to the demon lord who was staring at them.

“I should be off them my lady.”

Aswar quickly walked over to the demon lord and began talking about him using or removing the limiter.

Aaron listened as they walked away before turning back to Kraet, “what does he mean the general having a limiter?”

“The Generals and my father all have limiters since their levels are high enough that some of their abilities can destroy things around them that they would not want to do at the time.”

Aaron nervously asked, “Um what are the levels the general and the demon lord have?”

Kraet looked up for a moment thinking, “I believe Aswar is just over level 200 and my father is around level 350…”

Aaron could not believe what he just heard their levels are crazy then he started to wonder what Kraet’s level was or even his other companions, “um Kraet if you don’t mind me asking what is your level.”

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Kraet laughed for a moment, “you mean you haven’t checked any of your companions levels.”

Aaron lowered his head, “I’m sorry I didn’t know.”

“well you should be able to see it connected to your Status screen if you access it. Your also able to do this with any party members if they allow it.”

Aaron quickly reopened his status screen.

Aaron didn’t know why but Enae’s stats screen was filled with question marks and very little viewable information. Aaron decided to ask her about that at a later time but for now he continued to read through their stats.

Aaron was surprised over all as Laee’s level was equal to his but all of her stats could be considered a whole different level. What was even more surprising was the number of spells she could use but looking closer over half of them required a higher level to use or chant time’s were to long. And what wasn’t surprising is her drinking affected her stats and even managed to affect her armor.

Kris has a number of surprising abilities but with some things blocked out with question marks he became slightly confused. Aaron began to wonder why they never used those abilities when he was around them.

Kraet’s abilities were amazing and at the same time disturbing to the extent that she can control people around her, though he believed she would not use it in the wrong manner or even against him. All their abilities are amazing making Aaron feel like he was out of place so he decided that he needed to gain more skills and spells.

[If other players knew what he thought they might have seen him as an insane man trying to reach the height of gods though a few believed once they got to the right level they could one day reach it.]

Aaron closed the status window turned back to face Kraet, “That’s surprising you and the rest of the chosen have higher stats then average for our levels and you all have quite a number of abilities.”

[Enae, “it’s obvious isn’t it its because we are goddesses.”]

Kraet sighed, “Like Enae said we have higher stats due to being goddesses but since we are in a weakened state we cant use all our abilities and we don’t have enough mana yet to use them to their full potential.”

[Enae, “well Laee could use a lot more spells then she has but she prefers to overwhelm people with fire, though I never really understood why.”]

Kraet looked up in thought, “did she now hmm I cant really remember but she did mainly use fire spells.”

[Laee, “Are yoouuu talking a-about me?”]

[Aaron, “why is it you only use fire spells when you have the ability to use quite a few other’s?”]

[Laee laughed, “it’sss because I love to sssee things burn, the smell of ash in the air and besides it’s the easiest and shortest spells for me to use.”]

[Aaron sighed, “great she’s a drunk and a pyromaniac… never mind it’s a problem for later.”]

[Enae, “I tried to change her ways and nothing worked for me.”]

[Kris, “I told you we should just get rid of it.”]

[Laee, “hayyy don’t ca-call me “IT” or a problem! I’mmm a godddessss you know a Goddesss.”]

Kraet, “I forgot it was this way between them but do they have to bicker so often.”

Aaron, “your telling me… well should we get going?”

Kraet, “good idea we’ll head back to the citadel.”

Kraet lead Aaron back through the Arena meeting up with her patrol members at the entrance. While Kraet talked to the patrol members Aaron spotted Spaazara off a way’s readying his mount while staring at Aaron with a rage-contorted face. Aaron looked away for a moment as two members of Kraet’s patrol congratulated him on winning the tournament though they expected the general to win.
