Morning came in Senwald as the skies are partially cloudy with a bit of rays from the sun. Shokei was sleeping until...
"Shokei..." a voice called out to her, tapping on the iron bars with a hairpin. "Shokei?"
Shokei wakes up from her sleep. She felt disturbed and gets up to see who was calling out to her. From outside her cell, she can see Antoinette calling out to her.
"Antoinette..." Shokei said, walking up and blinks to see her face outside her cell.
"Oh Shokei!" Antoinette said, showing a slight smile. "Thank almighty you're awake!"
Shokei goes over to her cell to meet up with her.
"What are you doing here?" Shokei asked her. "I thought you were held in your room?"
"That's over with from st night." Antoinette said quietly. "I'm able to see you and everyone else here."
"I was worried about you st night." Shokei said to her. "I was thinking about what might have happened to you."
"My stepfather did find out already that I made it back safely to the castle, thanks to you guys." Antoinette said with a sad look. "It was not the best decision that I had in mind, but I truly wanted to see my siblings once more before I exiled from here."
"No wonder." Shokei said, hearing the truth. "Was that your intention of running from here?"
Antoinette sighed and nodded sadly. She then felt a pain in the back.
"Don't tell me..." Shokei said, noticing the pain that's inflicting on Antoinette. "...no..."
"Yes Shokei." Antoinette said sadly. "I...I did get punished for my actions. That bastard fiancée did his work to abused me. I got tied up and received caning for coming back here."
"Oh no..." Shokei said sadly, taking a breather to hear this news.
"Worse..." Antoinette continued. "After he caned me from the back, he hurt me...then...he did the most...horrific thing to me...that..."
Antoinette broke down in tears as she tries to find the words to tell Shokei.
"Go ahead...what else happened..." Shokei said to her.
"Then..." Antoinette gulped and said through tears. "He...he forced himself on me...and...*sniff, sniff*"
"What?!" Shokei said in surprised.
Antoinette became quiet for a minute, allowing Shokei to absorb from listening to this. Tears continue to roll down her cheeks as she feels her heart aching inside.
"...damn..." Shokei shakes her head, closed her eyes in disappointment, and clench her fists in anger. "Unacceptable..."
Antoinette looks up at Shokei.
"I'm...very sorry to hear this." Shokei said to her. "I wish I could have saved you."
"It's not your fault." Antoinette said to her. "I've suffered worse than that."
"I'm sure we'll get through this. I promise." Shokei said to her.
Just then, both girls heard footsteps and they turn to see who was approaching through the door. It was King Faramond, along with his guards, making his entrance as he seems to be in a strange mood by the expression on his face.
"You!" he commands one of his guards next to him. "Wake everyone up to bring them to my attention."
The guard listened and took a baton to tap the prison bars hard, causing a ringing sound loud enough for Shokei's party to disturb them from their sleep. The King sees Antoinette and saw her chatting with his prisoner, Shokei. Antoinette stands there and stares at him with a cold look.
"You..." the princess said with a cold attitude look.
"Leave now, or I'll do you harm in front of your captives." King Faramond ordered her.
Antoinette looks back at Shokei and nodded once. Then, she leaves the cell without incident, but as she leaves for the door, the King has his eyes on her and then he kicks her in the back to get her moving.
"Hey!" Shokei shouted when she saw this.
After the princess left, the King went to look around to see Shokei and her party, all awake from their sleep. Shokei looks at the King's face. The King appears to be in a good mood for some reason. King Faramond has big pns for his captives and knows what he has in mind for them.
What the hell is he smiling about? Rei thought. Why that look suddenly?
"Good morning!" King Faramond said to everyone. "I hope all of you had a wonderful night's rest, I assume. Once I get things settled, I will make sure I deal with you all ter. Breakfast will be served while you're down here and eat heartily because you are all going to need it."
"I wonder what this is all about?" Marie asked, confused.
"You will find out ter." The King said. "I'll decide your fate if you are up to the task. It won't be guaranteed your freedom from my grasp if that's what you're thinking."
"Umm..." Marie wanted to say something, but Rei sees her at her cell and shakes her head to not say another word.
"Very well then." King Faramond said. "I'll let my guards get all of you ter. à plus tard!"
The King leaves the cell along with his guard behind him. Once he's gone, everyone got a chance to speak to each other.
"I'm...quite nervous about this." Sadako said, feeling uncomfortable. "What do we have to do for him?"
"Beats me." Beatrice said, with a shrug. "I have no clue what he wants us to do."
"We cannot guarantee that we would break out of here easily." Obsidian said. "We will have to go through with this, or we will risk being executed in this Kingdom."
"I hope not!" Marie gulped.
"Anyways, we got to be ready for whatever that King wants us to do for him." Rei said to the party. "But I do hope that the breakfast is reasonable, cause I'm hungry now."
Shokei did not say anything while the party was talking among each other. She thinks to herself what the King may have in store for her and is more concerned for Antoinette.
Later in the castle, the King's guards are escorting Shokei and her party to meet the King at his throne. All of them walk together in a line as the guards in the front and the back are in watch in case the party would make a false move to escape or fight back. Straight ahead, two guards that are standing there sees the party heading for the King's throne and they open the doors to allow them in.
As soon as the party went inside, Shokei can see the King sitting comfortably in his throne. The King watches them entering his throne room.
"About face!!" the guard orders Shokei and her party.
The party face directly at the King. All of them turned and stand straight, looking at the King. From there, Shokei can see Antoinette sitting right beside him. Antoinette is watching everyone staring at her and the King. However, Antoinette's wrists are shackled to her small throne, as she is being treated like a prisoner. King Faramond stands up from his throne and gets a look at his captives.
"I'm pleased to see that all of you are here." The King speaks out to them. "For one, my Kingdom is under a crisis. A great monster is causing a threat to my people in Senwald. The vile creature has killed most of my people and my men fought bravely against the vile soul, but a lot of them perished."
"We head this story before we were captured by your guards." Shokei said to him and then asked. "What do you want us to do?"
"Since you have learned what happened thanks to my daughters and my son, I am giving you a task in which you want your freedom from my Kingdom." The King replied. "I am ordering you to go to that Volcanic Mountain, located east of Forest Valley from here. Your objective is to sy the monster that is responsible for the damages that pgued on my Kingdom."
Everyone looks among each other after hearing the mission that King Faramond ordered them to do. The party agrees with this and then looks back at the King.
"However! There's a twist." The King said and looked at Shokei. "For you, the leader, you can allow three of your finest companions to bring along with you in search for that monster."
"What?!" Shokei said in a surprised look. "You mean I can't bring everyone with me at once?"
"Not a chance!" the King replied. "My rules, my way! Only three of your companions. No one else."
Shokei pouted as she felt the King's demands very unfair. Antoinette looks at the King with an attitude.
"Now," the King said and asked. "Who is willing to join you on this task? And remember, those that are not picked will return to their cells until further notice. You have a few minutes to make your mind now."
Shokei looks at her party members. She knows what the King expected, and she needs to make her decision.
"I cannot do this alone without you Rei." Shokei said to her.
"Count me in." Rei said. "I'm worthy to help you out always."
"Thanks." Shokei said. Then, she looks at the others. "Now that I have Rei, who else do I have to pick?"
Soon, the decisions were made. Shokei and her three-party members are walking up to the gates where the entrance of Senwald is, followed by the King's guards walking behind them. Shokei has picked her party members that will join her on the journey to defeating the monster at the Volcanic Mountain. Rei, along with Marie and Sadako, were the chosen ones picked on this quest.
The gates open as soon as the party are about to departure from Senwald.
"We wait for your return when you come back from completing the King's task." One of the guards said to them.
Once the party went through the gates, Shokei and the others look back to see that the gate is closing until it was shut. Once they're locked out, the party looks at each other.
"Where do we go from here?" Marie asked, figuring out what to do next.
"The King said that the mountains are east from here." Shokei said and points up to where the mountains are found, including the Volcano. "We need to walk through Forest Valley, and we should be on our way."
"Know what's odd?" Sadako said. "That King didn't tell us how long we are to be out here to do this task."
"That's kind of true..." Rei said. "But I guess this task won't be done until we kill off this monster."
"Looks like it." Marie said.
The party looks at each other for a few seconds.
"Let's do what we have to do." Shokei said, walking. "Come on."
All four girls are heading east up on a straight path to where they are heading for Forest Valley. Shokei looks ahead to see the mountains behind the forest and soon, the party continues their journey into the forest.
While the party heads to the forest, a figure watches them enter from above. Bck Death watches over them as they are in the forest, walking on a valley.
"Hmm...it appears that Shokei and her pals are heading for the first gem." The Necromutant said to herself. "If I remember, the gem lies in a hidden temple somewhere in those mountains. Maybe I should follow them..."
"I wouldn't do that." A voice speaks to her out of nowhere.
"Ehhh? Who's that?" Bck Death asked, looking at her surroundings.
Bck Death is curious to know who was talking to her. Then, she turns to see someone flying above her. The appearance was a man wearing a bck outfit and his wings are dark grey. He even has an eyepatch and carries a sword on his back.
"Ahhhhh! I know you!" Bck Death recognizes the voice. "It's you, Hazon!"
"Yes, it is me." Hazon said, bowing down. "I am the messenger for the Necromutants of Chaos. I am visiting by to see how the search for the Mystic Gems is going."
"That blondie Shokei and her pals are heading for that gem." Bck Death pointed out. "They are heading for the temple that's hidden in the mountains."
"I'm aware of that. Thank you." Hazon said. "The question is, do they know how to enter the hidden temple?"
"No idea." Bck Death became puzzled.
"You see Bck Death," Hazon expined. "In the times of the Dark Age, the warrior used a special medallion. A medallion, that will allow him to enter the dungeons where the guardians keep the powerful gems that are embedded inside of them. The gems are the source of power and it's used for energetic purposes. Do you get all of that?"
"Ahh yes...I guess." Bck Death listened.
"Even if you were paying attention to me, it should matter to you." Hazon said. "As long as you're on the mission, you should keep up with that Shokei girl as much as possible. And I'm sure you keep your identity revealed to them."
"Of course, Hazon." Bck Death tells him. "For my sake, I will not fail. Period."
"Since you put it that way, it will be long for them to find that gem." Hazon said. "I think it would be best to return back to where you are now before you create a problem."
"Awww! Can I just keep up with them?! Pleaaaaaaase?" Bck Death asked, pleaded.
"Not really." Hazon shakes his head. "I will watch them every step of the way, so I'll be spying on them just for this moment."
"Sheesh!" Bck Death said in disappointment. "Fine! Suit yourself!"
Bck Death vanishes and leaves the scene.
Hazon looks around the forest area. The Necromutant already knows that Shokei is going after the first gem.
"Looks like I'll seek more of what this 'Shokei' is made of." Hazon said.
Meanwhile in Forest Valley, Shokei and her party are still navigating through the forest, and they are making their way to the mountains. The long journey, however, did not settle well for one of the party members.
"It's so far from here." Marie said in a compint. "I'm not used to walking far. I'm tired of walking."
"Ugh! Stop whining!" Rei said at her, annoyed. "You made that compint st time and now you're ringing this up again."
"Your healing abilities are going to be useful for this task." Shokei said to her. "And besides, walking is good for you. Just get used to it."
"Welp...you don't have to rub it in on me..." Marie sighed and slightly pout.
"Let's see here..." Shokei said, checking her map. She still sees the red symbol that's on her map, leading to where she needs to go. "We have to move further everyone. All this walking looks uneasy, but we cannot let our allies being held at Senwald down."
"So true..." Marie said, looking down. "I miss all of them back there."
"Same." Shokei said to her. "But we have to keep moving."
The party continues onward. During the walk, Shokei takes caution of her surroundings in case anything comes at her and her party. She hopes that there won't be any sign of evil that may come to attack her. While the party keeps walking, Marie saw a swift movement that was passing by the trees.
"What the hell?" Marie said with a blink, surprised to what she just saw.
"What's wrong?" Shokei asked her.
"No! Wait!" Marie said, getting the party her attention. "I think I saw something fast. Hold on a second."
The party stops in their tracks as soon as Marie encountered something in the way. Suddenly, a shadowy figure came above one of the trees and heads straight down towards Shokei. Shokei and her party sees the figure heading straight down at them and is about to attack.
"Look out!" Shokei tells everyone.
The group rolls out of the way in time as the figure strikes down with a sword, which is a katana, missing its target. The party gets on their feet right away and together they fought against the enemy.
Shokei takes her sword and cshes against the enemy. The enemy strikes back by guarding itself with its sword. Shokei exchange clings and cngs against her enemy as she dukes it out. The party watches before any of them make a move. Shokei took a swipe against her opponent and the enemy counters at her with a swift kick. Shokei dodged the kick and goes for a three-way ssh against the enemy. Seeing the attack coming, the enemy guard-impacted the tactic Shokei was going for and she lost her bance as she felt way off against the enemy's sudden move. Rei, seeing an opening, rushes and gave a high knee attack towards the enemy. The enemy felt the hit and was sent back to a tree from a distance. The enemy fell on the ground once it was hit in the face. Shokei and her party gets ready and waits for the enemy to get up from the ground.
"Guhhh!" the figure said as he feels the pain on his jaw. "That's...ugh, enough...don't attack me..."
"Why should we?!" Rei shouted out and asked. "And who the hell are you anyway?"
"Reveal yourself!" Shokei yelled, getting a grip on her sword.
The party waits for the figure to get up. The figure steps forward once the pain is no more on its jaw and identifies itself. This figure turns out to be a humanoid with a face of a Doberman. He has light blue hair with a bck bandanna on his head and his outfit appears to be a warrior's outfit with an iron shoulder guard on his right shoulder. The sword that he wields is a katana, but the uniqueness of his weapon is a gss-type sword. The sword, however, was unbreakable. The figure approaches to Shokei.
"Who are you?" Shokei asked him.
"The name's Ferron." The Doberman introduced himself. "Warrior and Adventurer that inhibits any forest."
"Hmmph, I see." Shokei said.
"I would advise that you attack me no further." Ferron said. "My knowledge has mistaken you as one of those strange creatures that I've met before."
"Huh...ummm..."
Shokei looks at her party. The party did not see Ferron as a threat to them and they allow him to continue.
"What kind of beings are doing here in this forest?" Ferron asked.
"You owe us an apology." Shokei said back at the Doberman and asked, "Second, why do you care?"
"For curiosity." replied Ferron. "I have a feeling you are venturing somewhere dangerous I assume."
"How do you know that?" Shokei asked. "You have no idea what situation we got ourselves into."
"Really?" Ferron said and asked. "I bet that you were sent out by the King's orders and was being told to sy a beast that dwells in the mountains."
"Are you...a psychopath?" Marie asked, wondering.
"Not quite." Ferron shakes his head. "But I believe I have a good sense of where you're all heading off to."
"We were sent out by the King's orders to sy some type of monster that lies in the forest." Shokei tells him.
"I see." Ferron said and asked. "You realize that those that were sent to go to the mountains never come back alive, do you?"
Shokei shakes her head.
"That's my point." Ferron said. "My advice is to not go further if you and your party want your lives spared. It's best to return to where you came from."
"Actually, we cannot do that." Shokei said to him.
"Why not?" Ferron asked.
"The King of Senwald gave us orders to head out to the mountains." Shokei replied. "In addition, our friends are held at Senwald and they're in prison. We need to defeat this creature otherwise our fate lies in the hands of the bastard King."
"Hmm, seems that your story appears different." Ferron said. "But...since you four are brave enough to head up to the mountains, I'll be gd to help you all out."
"You will?" Marie asked, putting her hands on her hips. "Even though you ambushed us in the beginning?"
"Sure." Ferron nodded. Then, he recalled what he needed to say. "By the way, I must apologize for striking at all of you during my confrontation."
"I accept." Shokei said, approving his apology. "But if I should ask you, why did you attack us?"
"I was mistaken you from some enemy that belongs to a cn that I have never heard of." replied Ferron.
"Really?" Rei asked. "Who would that be?"
"It was a strange being that I fought, but she ran away." Ferron replied. "Her appearance was a form of a Necromancer..."
"You mean the Necromutants of Chaos?" Shokei asked him, slightly shocked in hearing this.
"Is that what the strange being is from?" asked Ferron.
"I recalled yesterday when me and my party fought a crazed harlequin figure and her demonic creation." Shokei tells him.
"Then that's her!" Ferron said, remembering who the being really was. "I fought that vile being, but her demonic creation was not easy to take down. I had to flee for my safety. During the fight, she was not alone as I fought another being like her."
"Huh?" Sadako asked.
"That's new." Rei said. "So that Necromutant wasn't just her alone."
"Do you recall who was with Bck Death?" Shokei asked him. "What did the enemy look like?"
"The other strange being wields an Iron Cw." Ferron tells the party. "He thinks that I have one of the gems that I obtained from a temple. I had no idea what he was talking about."
"There's a temple hidden in the mountains?" Shokei asked.
"Actually, there is." replied Ferron. "There is a temple that's found somewhere in the mountains. I only hear this as a rumor, but it's uncertain that temple should exist."
"Sounds interesting." Marie said.
"A temple in the mountains..." Rei said, listening to this. "Perhaps a temple would have some valuable treasure if we were to find it. And yes Marie, this does sound interesting."
"I hope we aren't forgetting about a creature we must sy too." Sadako reminded them.
"Right...then we should not idle here longer." Shokei said to her party. "Let's continue."
Later, Shokei and her party have made it to the mountains. The air feels warm, and the party can feel a valley breeze on the mountain. The party is now standing on the path that they are traveling on.
"By following this path," Ferron said. "It could lead us to finding the temple."
The party continues their journey to finding the temple. The path that they are walking on looks curvy and this path leads them further into the mountains. Then they came across two split paths in their way, as a sign of a detour. Deciding where to go, Shokei chooses the path on the right. Walking on the path lead her party into a cave. From there, the party continues walking upward until they made their way to the top of the mountain. Outside, the view from above is wide and Shokei can see Senwald from up here. The Kingdom looks small at a far distance.
"Wow! What a view from up here." Marie said, viewing the sights of the continent.
"Amazing." Sadako said. "But...I am afraid of heights to be honest."
"Sadly, Malluraea would be seen from a distance." Rei said. "But up here, it feels that the town never existed."
"You said it." Marie agreed.
While watching the view from above, Shokei looks down and sees her medallion giving off a strange light. She takes note of this and stares down at her medallion.
...left... a voice speaks in her mind.
"Huh?" Shokei looks around as he hears a voice. Then looks at her medallion again.
Left Emissary... the voice whispers through her ear again. ...head left...
"Shokei?" Rei said and asked when she notice her behavior. "What's wrong?"
"Ohh!" Shokei, regains her senses, and said to her. "We have to go left."
"Are you sure?" Ferron asked. "Sounds like you have an idea to where the temple is."
"Yeah...I think so." Shokei replied.
"Can't tell if you're guessing...or hearing voices." Rei said to her. "But hey, if you trust your instincts, let's go."
Shokei and her party went left as they continue their trail to where they need to go. The party heads to another cave on the left side of the mountain. The cave leads them downward and there they navigate a few turns to get to the other side of the cave. The party can feel the temperature is getting warmer. They even hear a stream boiling with heat. From the looks of things, the party are on the right track in their journey.
Outside of the cave, the party looks around to see where they are. In front of them is a straight path, which is a bridge, with walls in between the open gap. The bottom of the pit shows the sea of va flowing from the ground. High boils of steam are coming up from the va, filling in the atmosphere.
"So hot..." Marie said, feeling the heat touching her body.
"If we can get through the bridge from here, we may find the temple over there." Ferron said.
"I don't know...is the bridge safe?" Marie asked with concern.
"Something's bothering you again Marie?" Rei asked her.
"I'm...not very comfortable on going across this bridge." Marie said, feeling scared.
"This path is the only way to go further in our journey." Ferron said to her. "We don't have a choice."
Seeing the bridge in front of her, Marie looks at it. The bridge does not appear to be comfortable as the bridge is extended to the other side of another cave entrance. Shokei checks the bridge and puts her foot on it. The bridge shook a little as reaching to the other side would be risky.
"We need to be careful walking across this bridge, or we're history." Shokei said.
The party begins to take caution and started walking across the bridge. They take extra caution on going across the bridge and as Shokei walks onward, the bridge felt shaky and did not seem stable on going across. She keeps herself banced while having patience going across the bridge.
While the party is walking across the bridge, a creature is lurking from inside the sea of va. The creature from the va looks up to see that there are life forms that are crossing the bridge. The creature emerged from the va and flies up to where Shokei and her party are trying to get across.
"Huh?" Shokei paused in her tracks. "Did you guys hear something?"
The party hears a roaring sound followed by the sound of fpping wings. The sound was really close, and they look to see a red dragon coming towards them.
"Oh shit!" Rei yelled.
"Keep moving!!" Ferron yelled out to the party.
As soon as the dragon reveals itself, the party races up to the other side of the bridge. The red dragon starts to breathe fire at the side of the bridge. The bridge caught on fire, and it traces quickly into destroying the bridge. Shokei and her party quickly made a dash to the other side as the bridge is losing its hold while burning up in fmes. Almost everyone made it to the other side, but Marie is the only one falling behind the party.
"Marie! Hurry up!!" Rei yells out to her.
"I'm trying! I'm trying!!" Marie shouted as she panics to get to the other side.
The bridge, however, is nearly destroyed as it was trying to doom Marie into death. Marie was running fast while the other option in her mind is telling her to jump. She did as the bridge goes down, but her jumping distance was not enough to make it to the other surface. Instead, Marie hits the wall and holds her grip on the wooden board of the bridge.
"NO MARIE! NOOO!!" Rei screamed at her and took immediate action by extending out her hand. "GRAB MY HAND!!"
"I-I DON'T WANT TO DIE!!" Marie cried out, wailing. "HELP ME!!!"
"JUST GIVE ME YOUR HAND!!" Rei screamed and said again. "GIVE ME YOUR HAND!!!"
Marie is scared. She feels that her death is close at hand.
"I don't want to die a horrible death, I don't want to die a horrible death, I don't want to die a horrible death, I..." Marie repeatedly said as she could not think about her fate.
"SHUT UP AND GRAB MY HAND DAMMIT!!" Rei shouted at her.
"I'M TRYING!!" Marie screamed at her.
Marie goes for Rei's hand and reaches it. She refused to look down at the sea of va below. Afraid of heights, she was too afraid to look down. Marie climbs up on the bridge and goes up to reach Rei's extended hand. The red dragon, however, is heading right to where the party is and has its eyes on Marie. Marie hangs on for dear life, using the wooden boards as a dder to reach up to Rei. Shokei sees the dragon and the dragon is building up to finish off the whole party with its fmes.
"No way! The dragon's right here!" Shokei shouted.
"We won't be able to save her!" Sadako said, worried. "At this rate, we're toast!"
"SHIT!!" Rei said and then screamed at Marie. "COME ON, COME ON!! GIVE ME YOUR HAND NOW!!"
Marie turns to see the dragon is right there and then the dragon sets its target and breathes out fire against them. By a spring of luck, Marie sprung up and grabbed Rei's hand. Feeing the tight grip, Rei pulled her up quickly and then the party quickly runs for the cave. The dragon bsts out fire and the party jump inside to get away from the bzing fiery that is being aimed at them. Once in, the party moves down further inside the cave to avoid the breathing fmes. Getting away further, the party made it safely from the red dragon.
"Whew!" Shokei said with gdness. "Thank Almighty we got away from that dragon."
The party can hear Marie crying as she bursts in tears.
"Marie!" Rei goes up to confront her and asked. "Are you ok?"
"I'm fine!" Marie said through tears. She hugged Rei tightly. "I'm...*sniff, sniff* I'm gd that today was not the day for me to die!! I-I was truly, truly scared!"
"Ok, ok." Rei tells her, making her rex. "We got out of deaths way. You don't have to cry anymore. Rex now."
Marie calms down as she stops sobbing. The tears trickle down her face as she takes breaths to rex.
"We should stop here for just a while before going further." Ferron said, taking a seat on the ground.
"That's fine by me." Shokei said. "But I'm curious how far we need to go from here?"
"No idea but..." Ferron notices the medallion on Shokei's neck, seeing it glow and asked. "Why is your medallion giving off such a glow like that?"
Shokei looks down and see her medallion is reacting differently. It keeps reacting as it shines on and off.
"Woah..." Rei said, staring down at Shokei's medallion. "Where you get that?"
"I found this back at the treasure hunt." Shokei replied.
"Hmm, very amusing." Rei said. "Is this glow giving us a sign or what?"
"Part of the journey I guess...but it could mean something." Shokei said.
"Whatever lies within that medallion, it may be a sign leading us to a source." Ferron said.
"It seems so." Shokei said. Then, she thought of another thing and asked. "I wonder how Antoinette and the others are doing in Senwald now?"
