Chapter 66

In the forest of Euna, Shokei's party members are now looking around as they are continuing their search for the missing book. After going through a long struggling battle against the Necromutant's creations, the party is now deep in the forest. Rei and the others are searching for the missing book that is hiding somewhere in the forest.

"Did you guys have any luck yet?" Rei asked her party.

  "No, not yet." Saeko responded.

"Maybe the book could be hidden in the bushes." Marie said as she continues searching.

"Probably..." Rei said, thinking of an idea. "Perhaps we should split up to find the book. Doing so, we won't be searching in just one area."

"Good idea." Mizuki agreed. "Let's separate so we can have a better chance in finding that book."

The party splits up individually as they search for the book. Marie looks around in her section as she goes over to one of the bushes. She goes in to inspect and have high hopes that the book is found within the bush. As Marie looks further, her eyes caught her attention of what she was looking for. There it was. The book that Shokei is trapped inside.

"N-no way!" Marie gasped and smiled. "And here I thought we'll never get our hands on that book!"

The cursed book is on the ground, untouched and still in one piece. Successfully finding the book, Marie goes down to pick it up. Before she could, she noticed that there is a paw of an animal that is resting on top of the book.

  "Eh?!"

Marie eyes widened as she notices a suspicious paw on the book's cover. She looks up to see that there is a strange looking creature. Its body is the shape of a bear but has an owl as its head. Marie stares at the strange beast with its droopy eyes and has sharp fangs from its beak. Marie backs away as she is freaked out by the strange animal creature.

  "Ah-Ahhhhhhh!!!"

Marie screamed as she backs away from the Owlbear. The bear remained in its pce as it stares at her. The Owlbear looks down at the book and grabs the book by its mouth. Marie blinks as she sees the strange beast going off with the book. She clenched her fists as she was not going to let a creature get away with the book that Shokei is trapped in.

"H-Hey!" Marie called out to the Owlbear. "Give me that book!"

The Owlbear hears Marie's voice and motions its head to see her coming. Suddenly, the Owlbear takes off as it runs away.

"GET BACK HERE!!" Marie shouted as she chased after the bear.

Not far away, Rei continued to find the book that Hauntmystic had discarded in the forest. She checked the st few bushes but no luck.

"Sheesh!" Rei said, feeling disappointed. "Where the hell is that book? Ugh, I hope Shokei is alive in there...hmm?"

Rei paused in her pce. Then, she hears footsteps. The sounds of footsies became loud and there she saw a wild Owlbear running up to her direction.

"COME BACK WITH THAT BOOK YOU BEAST!!"

Rei hears Marie yelling from the back as she was in pursuit in chasing after the Owlbear. Rei looks carefully to see that the bear holds a book in its mouth. Rei tried to prevent the bear from running any further and tries to tackle the bear. The Owlbear sees Rei in its way and tried to attack her with its sharp cws. Rei quickly dodged the attack as she rolled over, allowing the bear to pass on by to another path.

Rei looks to see the Owlbear running away. Marie stops near her as she catches her breath. She felt tired from running fast as she failed to stop the wild beast.

"Damn!" Marie said with an exhausted look. "That dingy bear got away with that book!"

"Seriously?!" Rei asked. "You found the book? That's big news!"

"I...I did!" Marie tells her. "I had the book, but that Owlbear came out of nowhere!"

"We need to tell the others about this." Rei said. "We need to track down that beast and retrieve the book from it."

  "Good idea..." Marie nodded.

Both party members went back to find their allies.

Back at the Woodnd of Dreams, Shokei and her party are face to face with Queen Ogiva. The party is still confused to why she came here on the Astral Beach of Memories.

"I see that you have managed to restore the Medallion of Prophecy." Queen Ogiva said. "You fought well and have defeated the Three Little Evils that was pguing their nd. I congratute all of you for a job well done."

"Ummm..." Shokei tried to find words to say but cleared her throat and said, "Why yes...we did. But... what brings you over here?"

"And how come you're by yourself?" Mariko added with a puzzled look. "That's untypical for a Queen to go off by herself."

The Queen smiled strangely as she keeps her mouth shut to ugh.

"Huh?" Shokei looks at the Queen and asked. "Hey, what's with you? Why the hell are you ughing? And what is this about?"

"I assume that you came across the sealed door within that cave." Queen Ogiva said. "That door you saw is where you can escape to your real world."

"Wait a minute..." Mariko figured out. "You mean that door would lead us out of here?"

"Of course..." Queen Ogiva nodded. She has a wicked smile on her face, an expression of evil. "But that there is not the Medallion of Prophecy that you hold."

Shokei blinks and stares at the Medallion she holds in her hand.

"That Medallion is the key to leaving this book world you're trapped in." Queen Ogiva said.

"Hold on a minute!" Egoh calls out to her. "You're not really the real Queen Ogiva. Who in the world are you?"

The impostor revealed herself as her eyes gave a red gring glow.

"Just a creation from the Necromutants." The false Ogiva confirmed. "Yes. I am here to make sure that you Emissary would mark this pce your eternal grave..."

"What?! I knew it!" Shokei said as she grips her sword in hand.

"Oh no! Step back!" Mariko warned.

"Gah ha ha ha ha haaaa...Spirits of the Dark Dreams Gaxy, behold my true nature towards those that shall witness my true power!!"

The party looks to see that the imposter is undergoing a transformation. The Hare's body is deformed as its body is forming into shape. The body builds up as it grows and expands in cells to make its body look slender and strong. The face of the monster is growing horns and has nails that are very sharp. With its transformation complete, Shokei looks to see that the monster turns out to be a vicious ram.

"Woah! What the heck is that?!" Mariko asked, blinking in surprise.

"A Ram." Egoh said. "And its hideously vicious!"

"C-could this be...the ultimate nightmare of this world?!" Mariko asked, shaking a bit.

"I-it seems s-so!" Egoh blinked as he gets his gsses straightened.

The Ram makes a warcry and then takes out a weapon, emerging out of her chest, which is a heavy mallet. With the mallet in hand, the Ram leaps in the air and brings the mallet downward.

  "Look out!"

Shokei shouted as she and her party move out of the way to dodge the charging mallet. The monster missed its target as it crashed right into the sand. Shokei unsheathes her sword as she and her party go out in an battle against the Vicious Ram monster.

The fight against the Ram proved to be very violent in nature. The Ram monster was powerful with its mallet as it swings it down toward the sand. The big mallet impacts the sand as it spreads out everywhere in the field. Shokei takes cover as she shields her eyes from the sand. Mariko used her hat to protect her eyes from the sands as Egoh covers his face with his arms to avoid the sand. The Ram wields the mallet again as it made the party lose their footing on the ground. Trying to recover quickly, Shokei and her party managed to get back on their feet. However, the Ram spews out a dark bck mist from her nostrils. The mist was strong enough that it surrounded the field as it pits Shokei, Mariko, and Egoh in darkness.

"Oh no! I can't see! I can't see!!" Mariko panicked as she looks around the dark mist.

"Spread out if you can!" Shokei shouted.

The trio did as they split apart from the monster. The Vicious Ram looks through her sights as it looks to target its prey. There, the Ram has her eyes on Shokei, locked on target, and makes a warcry to charge right after her. Shokei sense the monster is coming towards her and she finds her stance to get ready. She hears the Ram nearby and then she quickly rolls in time right as the monster tried charging at her with the mallet.

Recovering from her roll, Shokei gets back on her feet. She looks to see that the Ram is looking down at her. Then, Shokei has her sights on the monster's forehead and sees that there is a shiny red ruby. Seeing that the ruby is in pce, Shokei has an idea.

"S-Shokei!" Marie called out to her from the darkness. "Wh-where are you?!"

"Right here!" Shokei called her out. "Are you nearby?"

"Ye-yes!" Mariko replied, looking around. "But I can barely see you."

"Do me a favor." Shokei tells her. "Use your Time Magic."

"Really?!" Mariko said, hearing her request. "A-are you sure?!"

"When I tell you by my command." Shokei said, gripping her sword as she waits for the Ram to attack her.

  "Oh, ok!"

Shokei waits for the Vicious Ram to make her move. The monster growls as it grits her teeth, viewing Shokei in her sights. The monster makes her move as she lifts her mallet and swings it downward.

  "NOW!!"

Shokei gives Mariko the signal. Hearing her loud voice, Mariko used her wand to enchant her magic.

  "Time Control!"

Mariko used her magic against the Vicious Ram. The monster's body movement came to a sudden halt as it is being stopped in time. The mallet nearly hit Shokei as the enemy became trapped in time.

"Now's your chance!" Mariko said, keeping her spell in effect.

Shokei takes the opportunity as she felt the power of her sword flowing inside of her. She quickly goes for the legs of the monster. A wave of light fshed against the leg of the monster as it cuts right through the flesh. The time suspends as the cut spttered out blood in midair. Shokei takes aim and used her sword to ssh through the other leg of the Ram monster.

"My magic isn't strong enough to hold this beast in pce..." Mariko tells her. "It's h-hard to concentrate..."

  "Just a little more!"

Shokei knew that time was against her as she quickly moves to the front of the Ram. With the monster in pce, Shokei takes her sword to direct her target on the ruby. The sword strikes at the ruby, piercing through the head of the monster. The effects of Mariko's time spell are starting to tire out as Mariko could not concentrate on her magic any longer. The spell wears off in time as Shokei gets her sword out of the Ram's skull.

Shokei and Mariko look to see the Ram. The monster cries out in pain as it was losing a lot of energy. Both of the legs were dismembered as it fell crashing to the floor. The ruby that was cracked begin to pour out dark mist as the Ram dies out in style. Hearing the monster's st moments, the Vicious Ram colpsed to the ground. The body lies there and then it started to disintegrate, making the Ram faded out into ashes.

As soon as the Vicious Ram faded away, the darkness that trapped the party disappeared. Shokei and Mariko look around to see that the skies became blue again as the Astral Beach returned back to normal.

"We...we did it..." Mariko said. Then she said again with happiness. "Haha!! W-we did it Shokei!"

  "Whew..."

Shokei blows some air as she felt relieved that the nightmare is over. The Vicious Ram became no more. Egoh came out of his hiding spot and regroups with the girls.

"Woah..." Egoh said. "What...ever happened to that..."

"Monster?" Mariko asked, finished his question.

"We fought it...and we killed the vile thing." Shokei tells him.

"Actually, you took care of that beast." Mariko said. "But...did you really strike through its legs completely?"

"I did." Shokei looks back at her sword. "I...I don't know how I did it...but I sensed a wave of energy flowed into me."

  "Interesting..." Mariko said.

  "Hmm?"

Egoh noticed something else to his eyes. He walks up and sees a key lying on the sand. He picks it up and sees that the key is no ordinary key. The key is made of gold, specialized with a transparent look.

"What did you find?" Shokei asked him.

"Looks like a key the monster left behind." Egoh said, examining the key.

"I wonder what that key is for?" Mariko asked.

"Hmmm..." Shokei reflects back on the memory of a door that was guarded in the castle. "My bet is that door I came across. Perhaps we should use that key on that door I saw back at the Queen's castle."

"You mean the door that those guards were protecting?" Mariko asked.

"Exactly." Shokei said. "Let's get back to the castle at once."

  "Right!"

With a nod, Shokei and her party leave the beach to head back to Hogsfeet.

Back at the Queen's castle, Shokei and her party returned and there they see that the guards have been defeated. There they can see that their bodies are on the floor as they have appeared to be killed in battle.

"Oh my..." Egoh said as he covered his mouth.

"Ohhhh..." Mariko takes a breather as she sees the guards dead on the floor.

"Perhaps the fake Queen could have possibly done all of this before she caught up with us." Shokei said.

"True...b-but...but..." Mariko said in a shaken tone.

Shokei looks at her witch ally feeling very disturbed.

"...I...I'm n-not used to dead b-bodies..." Mariko shyly said.

"...then don't look at them." Shokei tells her. "C'mon. We need to find that door."

The party continues onward as they head upstairs to the top floor of the castle. From there, Shokei finds the door that was protected by the guards. With no guards in sight, Shokei heads for the door and used the key to unlock the door. With the door opened, Shokei and her party looks ahead to see that there was someone inside.

  "...hmm?!"

The figure became alert as it rises from the floor. Shokei looks to see that there was someone that looks like the Queen of Hogsfeet. Only that this time, this figure turns out to be the real one.

  "Hey...are you..."

"Queen Ogiva?" The Hare queen asked, finishing Shokei's question.

"Ah! So...you're really the true Queen. Right?" Mariko asked.

"Yes." The Hare Queen nodded. "I am the true heir to the throne of Hogsfeet."

  "I see." Shokei said.

"And I am gd that you are able to save me from the imposter that was trying to look like me." Queen Ogiva said.

"We did." Shokei said. "And we were told that the Medallion of Prophecy we repaired was not real."

"That is because I hold the true Medallion right here." Queen Ogiva pointed out by her neck.

"So, there is the real Medallion." Egoh said. "She had it with her all along..."

"Come." Queen Ogiva said. "We need to restore Hogsfeet and uplift my people from despair."

  Shokei and her allies nodded.

The mid evening came in the Woodnd of Dreams. Shokei, Mariko, and Egoh are back in the Queen's throne room. The Kingdom of Hogsfeet is finally back to normal. With the Medallion of Prophecy restored back on the fountain, peace has been restored to the Kingdom.

"I must hail you as heroes who not only saved my Kingdom from a cursed despair, but you have saved the Woodnd of Dreams from the cruel sorceress." Queen Ogiva said.

"Thank you, your grace." Shokei said. "Had it not been us, your world would have been overruled by that sorcerer."

"Her name was Pgueface." Queen Ogiva mentioned. "She was the one that had put my Kingdom in despair."

"How did it all happen?" Mariko asked.

"One day..." the Queen begin. "My Kingdom was under sieged by wicked sorceress that was taken over my people. Knowing that the fountain was the source of enlightening the people's dreams, the Medallion of Prophecy was on the brink of being destroyed. One of the guards was able to bring it to me until that horrific monster pced a curse on my people, putting them into eternal despair, making them feel hopeless and in misery. I was caught by those strange halflings that had pced me in prison. The monster herself disguised me as I was held inside that room that I was locked in."

  "That expins everything." Mariko said.

"Yes. Me and the people of Hogsfeet are grateful that you have saved our nd in despair from the wickedness that tried to overthrow the Woodnd of Dreams." Queen Ogiva said.

  Egoh smiled and nodded.

"It's been an honor to save your Kingdom..." Shokei said to the Queen. "However, I must tell you that I am not from this world. I am a traveler that came here unexpected, and I am seeking a way to return back to the world that I belong to."

"Same here." Mariko said. "I need to get back to Euna. I miss being back in my world."

"I see..." The Queen said as her only response.

Shokei and Mariko looked at each other. Egoh adjusted his gsses, and he clears his throat.

"You...won't help us get back to our world?" Mariko asked.

"Of course!" The Queen said with a little ugh. "You said that you restored a Medallion when the world was in despair. Am I right?"

"We did..." Shokei said, revealing the Medallion in her hand.

"That Medallion you carry should lead you to where you and your friend need to go." Queen Ogiva said. "I'm sure that Medallion will lead you to your answers."

"Hmm..." Shokei thinks about it and then recalled the sealed door. "That's it! We should head back to the Beach. That imposter told us what mystery lies behind that door."

"As in a way out of here?" Mariko asked.

"Yes." Shokei nodded. "We should go there now if we are to return back to Euna."

"You're right!" Mariko excimed. "We should find out now."

"Oh...right..." Shokei turned to the Queen. "We have fulfilled our duty in saving Woodnd of Dreams and your Kingdom. This is where we depart."

"Yes." Queen Ogiva nodded. "And fare thee well. We hope you return here to visit one day."

Shokei, Mariko, and Egoh bowed at the Queen and then they left the throne and the castle.

Soon, Shokei returned back to the Astral Beach and head back to the cave. The group sees the sealed door in front of them.

"I...I guess this is it..." Egoh said sadly. "This...is where everything lies in your way back to your world..."

Shokei and Mariko looks at Egoh. They see that he appeared to be sad.

"What will you do when we leave this world?" Mariko asked him.

"I guess...I go back to doing what I do...for the people of Hogsfeet." Egoh replied.

  "What's that?" Mariko asked.

"I'm a priest." Egoh said. "I'm someone that serves my purpose for the people of Hogsfeet to give them hope in their dreams."

"Really?" Shokei asked. "You never told us that."

"I guess I didn't tell any of you." Egoh said. "Instead, I was mixed up in helping you out in saving this world."

  "It's ok." Mariko said.

"At least you told us." Shokei said.

Before Shokei could do anything further, she looks back at the small gravesite that they have done to their fallen ally.

"We saved this world from despair." Shokei said. "But she's still deceased after all that."

"I'm sure that Young is in a much better pce." Egoh said. "Our world isn't all miracles. Its...its life..."

"Aww, and I thought she would be revived..." Mariko said.

"Even in death, there is no such thing as restoration." Egoh said. "For someone who dies in our world, we send the person's body out in the ocean. Its our way in paying our respects to be sailed out at sea."

  "I see." Shokei said.

"Shokei..." Mariko called out to her and gets her attention. "It's time..."

Shokei hears her and nodded. She takes the Medallion in her hand, and she walks up to the sealed door. Using the Medallion, the relic fits into the slot. The effects of the sealed doors subsided. The doors opened automatically. Once the doors were wide opened, Shokei looks ahead to see that there is a path that led downward.

"Are you coming with us?" Mariko asked Egoh.

"No." Egoh shakes his head. "I will not follow you two. Once you go beyond, there's no turning back. The doors will close behind you and you will not return here."

"Ohhh..." Mariko said sadly. "Then...then that means..."

"It's ok." Shokei said to her, pcing her hand on her shoulder. "It's ok."

"There isn't much to do here little one." Egoh said. "You and your fellow warrior have saved this world. Now its best that you find your way back to your world."

Mariko wanted to cry. She has tears in her eyes, but she didn't cry.

"I guess this is it." Shokei said, extending her hand.

  Egoh shakes Shokei's hand.

"Ladies...it's been fun." Egoh said with a smile.

Shokei lets go of his hand.

  "Farewell."

With that said, Shokei and Mariko takes a look at Egoh one st time. Then, both of them went through the opened entrance. As soon as they bypass, the doors behind them slowly closed and then the entrance was sealed tight.

Together, the pair heads downward into the cavern area. The path is straightforward as they journey further. Not knowing what lies there, Shokei and Mariko continue their way. Suddenly, Shokei sees an opening, a sense of light at the end of the corridor. There they hear the wave sounds of a river flowing. Curious on what lies ahead, the pair heads further and there they see what it was.

Shokei and Mariko found themselves in an underground chamber. Looking around, they can see the waters strolling through the stream. In the center of the chamber, they can see a queen-sized bed on an altar ptform. Lighted torches, one on each end, surround the altar to make the viewing visible.

"Wow..." Mariko said, viewing the underground chamber as she looks around. "So that's where the water current is traveling..."

"Hmm, a bed..." Shokei said, seeing the bed in her sight.

The pair walks up to where the bed is on the altar. The bed appears to be regur as it looks unused. Shokei and Mariko examines the bed as they inspect if there is anything to be aware of. Shokei then spots a message encrypted on the side of the bed and gets closer to read it.

"Sleep, the divine sleep..." Shokei reads the short message.

"Hmm...what do you think it means?" Mariko asked. "It feels unfinished."

"I don't know..." Shokei said. "But...maybe if we were to sleep here..."

"Then we can dream our way out of this world." Mariko finished her sentence.

"...I have doubts..." Shokei said. "But let's put ourselves on the bed."

Shokei and Mariko lie on the bed together. Lying on their backs, both of them get comfortable as they stare up at the cavern's ceiling.

"The bed does feel cozy." Mariko said.

"At least it's not ft." Shokei said. "But it feels soft."

"I wish I had a bed like this." Mariko said.

  "Hmmph, keep dreaming..." Shokei said.

The pair waited for a while as they rex on the bed.

"So, what do you think is going to happen here?" Mariko asked.

  "I...I don't, huh?"

Just then, Shokei notices that the lighted torches went out on all four corners of each side. Blinking, Shokei and Mariko remained still, waiting patiently for something to happen. With the surroundings to the altar is pitch bck, Shokei and Mariko are unable to see anything. Mariko held on to Shokei's hand as she became nervous. The sounds of the river flowing continue to rage on as it created the mood of the atmosphere. Shokei felt her eyes tired as she was being forced into a deep sleep. Mariko felt the same effect as she too has her eyes closed. As they drift away in sleep, their presence has disappeared as they are no longer in bed.
