Chapter 1.8

Before I had time to react, a grappling hook wrapped around my chest several times. Then, a moment ter I was pulled up into the air.

"You are a magnet for your trouble aren't you?" the small girl with the yellow H told me as she grabbed my hand and pulled me up into the metal beam she was standing on.

Why was she acting like we were familiar? Was she someone 'other me' used to know?

I spoke, "Thanks for…", but she was already gone, using her cape to glide down into the fight below.

When I looked down to check up on the fight, I was pleasantly surprised.

I thought Kill-Rex would make short work of these three heroes, but the opposite was happening.

The "red one" was ying suppressive fire with a heavy caliber sniper rifle. Each shot on point.

The small one was skittering this way and that, weaving and dodging each of Kill-Rex's blows, taunting her all the while, "What's wrong, Rexy? Couldn't get some poontang, cause all the boys ran away from your crocodile-looking-ass, and decided to kidnap him?"

"Bat Woman" dashed in whenever the crocodile woman was distracted ying a flurry of hard blows on her head.

Then when Kill-Rex switched to her, the little one attacked, throwing explosive throwing knives that had a bird-like shape.

All three of them kept aiming for her head, often hitting the same spot.

Eventually, under their focused fire, Kill-Rex was knocked out. She fell down onto the ground like a giant sac of meat.

While Bat Woman typed something on the device attached to her gauntlet, the red one grapple hooked towards me.

"You alright there, Sweet cheeks?" she asked me. She must have noticed me shivering in the cold, because she took off her leather jacket and wrapped it around my shoulders.

"No, I- I've really had a bad night. You can't even imagine." I was rambling, my eyes haunted and body wrecked from all the stress, "I came back from the dead and then I was with my friend and we went to my family's house but it turned out that they are crazy. They- they attacked us and oh my god, you have to help Vick!" When I remembered Vick, I jumped and grabbed the heroine's hand, begging her.

"Woah Woah, calm down and tell me clearly. Is Vick, this friend of yours, in trouble? Where is she?"

I expined to her all the details, telling her about the mind control. The powers I'd seen my family use. I told her all I knew and then some.

"Alright I've got the gist of the situation. Let me talk with my partners and I'll be back. You wait here okay, doll?"

Those nicknames of hers really irritated me. They made me feel…like some helpless idiot. But I bit back my anger. There was no need to make the people that saved me upset, specially if they'd be saving Vick too.

The three heroes discussed something down below.

In the meantime, an expensive military bck jet nded down on the bridge.

The three heroes then struggled to chain Kill-Rex and secure her to the bottom of the jet.

Once that was done, the jet flew off to who knows where, carrying the giant crocodile woman.

The three heroes then grappled towards me.

"You are safe now." Bat Woman told me, looking intimidating as hell with her growly voice, tall height, and muscled frame, more so in the dark and with her Bat suit. "As we speak, Wayn Janes, otherwise known as Kill-Rex, is being transported to Bloodgate Asylum where she will be rehabilitated for an indefinite amount of time."

"Well with the way these freaks keep escaping from there, I'd say more like 4 months or so." Davian pipped in, mockingly.

Seeing my worried face, the red one with the red one spped the head of the younger one. "If they escape we'll take care of 'em."

"If we are to save this friend of yours, Vick, then we need to go now." Bat Woman told me, "Time is of the essence. We'll take you down, but you'll have to make your way home by yourself."

"Wait! Let me come with you!" I said, surprising myself. I'd sworn of the superheroics, hanged up the cape so to speak, so why was I speaking up now? Was it regret? Had I pretended to be a hero so long that it had rubbed off on me? Did I like Vick? All of the above?

"No way, Josefina." said the younger one. "You'd only be dead weight, slow us down."

"I agree with, Hooded Robin," decred Bat Woman, "This is too dangerous for someone untrained."

"You're wrong." I said. "I have some training and I have superpowers! I am resistant to their mind control and I can heal. You need me there. Vick needs me there."

The red one approached me and grabbed me by the hair harshly. "Just fuck off and let the experts take care of this one, Doll!" she screamed in my face. "Do you have some sort of deadwish, huh?! Dying once wasn't enough?! Go home while I'm still askin' nicely!" Saying that she released my hair and pushed me back so I fell on my behind.

"I know you are just trying to scare me away." I told her, gring at her red digital skull helmet, "Well, it's not gonna work. I'm coming with you!"
