False Hero: Chapter 18 – Overwhelmed

The air became thick with tension as the head padin’s roar echoed through the chaos of the battlefield. His heavy footsteps reverberated against the earth, each one a promise of violence, of retribution. Yuki, caught off-guard by the familiar yet unfamiliar face of Haruka, stood frozen. Her heart hammered in her chest as she processed the sight of the woman who had once been her cssmate, the only person who had shown her any kindness before the summoning. The memories of their time together seemed like a distant dream now, torn apart by the violence of the present.

But it was not the past that she was facing. It was this moment—this brutal, unforgiving reality where the face of Haruka, now a stranger to her, only served to heighten her confusion and disbelief. Haruka’s gaze met hers, distant and confused, but worst of all, it was unrecognizing. Yuki felt the crushing weight of that indifference settle deep within her, an ache that stung worse than any wound.

For a fleeting moment, Yuki’s mind struggled to reconcile the person she had known with the one who stood before her, but before she could process any further, the head padin struck.

The padin’s armored fist collided with Yuki’s side with a force that could have shattered stone. The impact was like a thundercp, deafening in its brutality. Yuki gasped as the breath was knocked from her lungs. Her body was flung into the air, twisting uncontrolbly. Her monstrous arms filed wildly, trying to steady her, but it was no use. She crashed hard into the dirt, the force of the blow rattling her bones, pain surging through her entire being.

Before she could regain her bearings, before she could even lift her head, her body began to roll and slide across the ground, momentum carrying her as she scraped across the dirt. Her skin burned where it scraped against the earth, her vision blurring from the shock. Through the haze of pain, Yuki's eyes remained locked onto Haruka, though the woman was now little more than a shadow in her peripheral vision.

Why didn’t she recognize her? Why couldn’t Haruka see her for who she truly was? The thought tore at her chest, each unanswered question a jagged shard of pain. Was this truly the world she now inhabited? One where even the smallest shred of hope seemed lost, swallowed by the overwhelming forces that sought to extinguish it?

“Don’t get distracted, creature,” the head padin muttered darkly as he approached, his voice a low growl of contempt. “I’m still your opponent.”

Yuki’s chest heaved with strained breaths as she struggled to push herself off the ground. Her body felt sluggish, like her limbs were made of lead. But the moment of hesitation cost her dearly. As she lifted her head, she saw him already bearing down on her. His sword was raised high, the golden glow of its edge reflecting the light of the burning vilge around them. It was a blur of motion—a brutal, unstoppable force closing in.

His sword came down like a wave of searing light, aimed directly at her throat.

The sharp edge of the padin's bde loomed closer, gleaming with deadly intent. It was an unstoppable force, swift and unforgiving, heading straight for Yuki’s throat. Time seemed to slow, the world narrowing to the space between the sword and her neck. In that fleeting instant, as the air hummed with impending doom, instinct surged within Yuki. The very core of her being screamed for survival, for defiance.

Her neck cracked with an unnatural sound, and in that moment, the void within her responded. The air crackled as dark, writhing tendrils of bck liquid surged from the cracks in her skin. The void energy coursed violently beneath her flesh, her muscles spasming as the liquid formed a protective armor, a hardened coating that spread across her neck and chest like a second yer of skin. It wasn’t enough to make her invulnerable, but it was enough to give her a fighting chance.

The sword descended, its golden edge fshing with the fury of holy light, but instead of splitting her throat open as intended, it scraped across the hardened void coating with a shrill, piercing screech. Sparks flew as the sword slid along the dark surface, the holy bde failing to break through the unnatural defense. The force of the strike still sent a tremor through her body, but it was far from the lethal blow the padin had hoped for.

Yuki hit the ground with a sickening thud, her body crumpling from the impact, the strength of the blow weakening her further. Pain rippled through her, her vision blurred, but her resolve remained unbroken. The metallic taste of blood filled her mouth, her throat raw from the force of the strike, but her will was far from spent.

With a deep, agonized breath, Yuki pushed herself off the ground, one arm trembling with the strain. Her body screamed in protest, but she refused to yield. Every ounce of her remaining strength fueled her next move. She unched herself into the air, her muscles screaming as she executed a backflip, twisting her body with the precision of a seasoned warrior. The padin’s sword swished dangerously close to her, missing her by mere inches as she spun through the air.

Her nding was anything but graceful—her feet smmed into the ground with a violent crack, her body threatening to colpse from the effort. The earth beneath her groaned in response, fissures spreading outward as the void energy poured from her. The ground was now covered in a creeping darkness, a tide of bck liquid spilling across the earth, feeding into the power that surged within her.

She didn’t wait to catch her breath. The moment she nded, she was on the move again. Her body, pushed beyond its limits, seemed to react without thinking. Every motion was fueled by desperation, by the rage of someone who had nothing left to lose. The padin’s relentless strikes came faster now, his bde an unyielding blur of holy light. But Yuki’s body was faster still, her movements a whirlwind of fluid darkness. The void liquid twisted and formed into tendrils, coiling around her arms like whips, deflecting the padin’s blows with a sickening crack.

Each strike was more precise, more vicious than the st, but Yuki dodged and blocked, her tendrils wrapping around the padin’s sword, pulling it aside before it could nd. The force of his strikes was overwhelming, and she could feel her strength waning, the weight of her exhaustion threatening to drag her down. Her body was falling apart, the cracks spreading further with every movement, but she would not stop. She couldn’t.

A primal, manic grin spread across Yuki’s face, her violet eyes bzing with fury and unyielding determination. Her breath was ragged, each inhale a painful reminder of the toll the battle was taking on her, but she was still standing. Still fighting. Her hands smmed into the ground with a force that sent tremors through the earth beneath her. Her body screamed in protest, but she pushed past it.

"Void Resonance!" she shouted, her voice a mixture of agony and raw power. The ground beneath her feet quaked as though the very nd itself feared what she was about to unleash. Her energy fred, and jagged, twisted spikes of void energy erupted from the earth around her like the cws of an ancient beast awakening from a long slumber. They shot upward with terrifying speed, their jagged tips gleaming with the same dark, unnatural power that flowed through Yuki’s veins.

The air was thick with the power she commanded, and the forest itself seemed to shrink back, as though it recognized the destructive force she had become. The forest spikes tore through the air, a massive assault aimed directly at the padin, their sharp edges cutting through the very air with a sound that was almost deafening. The padin, stunned by the ferocity of her attack, had no time to react before the spikes were upon him.

But just before the void spikes could impale him, a fsh of blinding light shot out from the priestess, the silent figure who had been standing just out of reach. She raised her staff high, chanting something in a nguage Yuki could not comprehend. A wave of holy magic surged from the staff, cutting through the spikes before they could reach their target. The void energy in the spikes hissed and writhed as the holy magic struck them, but they faltered, their momentum slowing as the light washed over them.

Yuki’s scream echoed through the battlefield, raw and full of pain, as the holy magic seared through her body. She staggered back, the void energy in her body recoiling in agony as the holy magic tore into her. The pressure was unbearable, and for a moment, it felt like her very soul was being ripped apart. She fell to her knees, the void liquid spilling from the cracks in her skin like tears of bck ink.

Lirien and the children watched helplessly from their position, their eyes wide with fear and concern. They could do nothing but watch as Yuki fought, the strength and fury of her struggle unfolding before them. Every time Yuki took a step forward, it seemed as though her body was ready to colpse, yet she kept pushing forward, driven by the desperation of someone fighting for everything they had left.

The head padin and priestess stood tall, their breaths coming in slow, controlled bursts. They were weary, but they had not yet been broken. They had seen warriors like Yuki before, but none who fought so fiercely, so recklessly. They knew the toll the void took on her body, and they could see the cracks beginning to form in her resolve.

Yuki’s vision blurred, her body shaking as she fought to remain conscious. Her strength was nearly gone, and yet she refused to fall. The padin and priestess, however, were still standing, their holy powers barely strained. Yuki was running out of time, and her vision was fading, the edges of her world turning dark.

Looking over at her status window Yuki still grit her teeth things weren't going well but she could keep going if she used [conversion] the problem was she would have to go all out and would likely have to run away after she finished this fight;Name: —Soul Name: —Race: Void-Infected Human (Intermediate)Ascension: 2Status: No Job Css

The holy magic still seared through her, each strike from the padin and priestess like a wound that threatened to tear her apart, but she refused to yield. Every part of her ached, every fiber of her being screamed for release. But there was no escape. Not yet. So she activated

The pain in her chest intensified as she felt the weight of her situation—the crushing reality that she was running out of time. But then, amidst the burning agony, something in her stirred. Something ancient, powerful, and ferocious. The Void, the Infernal, the Celestial—all of it surged within her, a maelstrom of conflicting energies, each one cwing for dominance. And for the first time since her summoning, Yuki made the choice to let them all rise together.

Her eyes fred with the violet intensity of the Void, but the light of the Celestial began to spark within them as well, like twin stars fighting to coexist. Her body shifted, growing in size as the infernal power coursed through her. Her limbs rippled with muscle, her form growing more imposing, her presence becoming something monstrous. Her hands crackled with dark energy, void liquid spilling from her pores like a cascading river, but now, golden light pulsed through the cracks. Her hands began to glow with the radiance of holy power, intertwined with the destructive energy of the Void, her form a horrifying yet majestic fusion of light and darkness.

Her skin split further, but the damage wasn’t merely from the void—the energy was too great for her body to contain. The once delicate cracks now spread like veins of light and shadow, intertwining as they coursed through her body. Her clothing morphed, becoming a holy armor of celestial light, shining like a fractured mirror of divinity. The infernal aura around her grew denser, darker, like a furnace ready to ignite everything in its path.

The padin and priestess froze for a moment, their eyes widening as they saw what was unfolding. They had pushed Yuki to the brink, but now… now she was something else entirely. The dark liquid pooling around her feet began to writhe with an energy of its own, the forest beneath her feet cracking and dying as it was consumed by the power emanating from her. The air itself thickened, as though the world held its breath in the face of what she had become.

“Do you feel it?” Yuki's voice was a mixture of pain and triumph, her tone barely a whisper, but there was power in it—familiar, raw power that terrified even the Padin. Her words echoed in the silence as she raised her head, eyes bzing with a fierce, untamed fire.

The padin's expression darkened, his golden armor gleaming with a new intensity as he gripped his sword tighter. “You’ve crossed the line, creature. This will be your end.”

The priestess, Haruka’s cold companion, held her staff high, her face grim as she prepared for what was coming. Her hand crackled with the power of holy magic, a faint glow illuminating the darkened battlefield.

"Hero, when we weaken that creature kill it with your bde," the padin growled, his voice low and commanding. He looked at Yuki with a mix of disdain and unease. The air around him began to hum with divine energy as he prepared to strike.

The priestess, her expression unreadable, closed her eyes for a moment, whispering an incantation under her breath. The sky above them seemed to darken as gravity itself began to shift. Yuki felt it first—a sudden weight on her body, as though the very earth had decided to chain her down. Gravity magic. It smmed into her with a suffocating force, her legs buckling under the pressure. She staggered, the weight of it pushing her back, keeping her in pce as her body fought against the crushing pull. A Notification sounded out in her mind but her vision blurred for a bit making her unable to read it however Yuki felt the pressure lighten slightly.

Before she could even react, the padin's voice rang out, filled with deadly finality. "Prepare for the end."

With a single, synchronized motion, the padin and priestess raised their weapons high, their faces set in grim determination. Together, they began the incantation for a spell more powerful than anything Yuki had faced before. They were invoking the sacred "Judgment of the Fallen," a smite of holy power designed to crush even the mightiest foes.

The air around them shimmered with divine power as the incantation built to its peak. Yuki’s body shook, unable to move under the weight of the magic holding her down. Her energy flickered, and for a moment, she thought she might lose herself again—be consumed by the magic, the weight of her own powers. But she refused to let that happen. Not yet. She couldn’t.

A sudden surge of fear and helplessness twisted in her gut as the holy magic around them reached its apex. The padin’s sword ignited with divine light, and the priestess raised her staff, both of them reciting the final words of the spell. "Judgment… of the Fallen."

Holy energy, pure and unyielding, crashed down upon Yuki like a hammer, a divine light that could not be outrun, a force that was beyond even her understanding. The moment it touched her, Yuki screamed—a sound that was more pain than anything else as her powers were stripped from her. The Void that had filled her body faltered, swirling in agony before it was cast away, dissipating into the air like ash.

Yuki's body began to crack, her skin breaking open like brittle stone, her limbs trembling as though the very foundation of her being was being undone. She could feel the weight of the spell erasing her existence, forcing her apart. The void liquid she had drawn into herself spilled from her, fading away like dust in the wind. Her body shattered in pces, pieces of her form crumbling to the ground as if she were nothing more than sand blown away by an unforgiving storm.

Lirien’s voice cut through the air, a scream of helplessness, her heart breaking as she witnessed the end of Yuki’s struggle. "Yuki!"

Yuki's body began to colpse entirely, the cracks in her form growing, pieces of her scattering like dust in the wind. She could feel herself fading, colpsing, falling. Her vision was blurring as her body burned and scream for mercy and when she could finally see again she could only bare witness to the bde in the hand of an old face. The girl raised her bde up high before speaking "Sorry about this. I promise to make it painless"

Just as she spoke those words her bde lit up with an untold amount of holy light before being covered in a aura of red, followed by one of white and ending with a cloud of smoke emitting her entire body. Yuki could sort of tell what she did she coated her sword in 3 magics, holy, fme, and light with that final spell being a body strengthen technique she had seen from Lirien before. However before Yuki could process any more Hakura let her bde fall intent on ending Yuki's life.

The sound of flesh being ripped through and a scream filled the air as Yuki was covered in blood. Looking up towards the source Yuki could only despair as Lirien stared back at her with a soft warm smile before speaking "I couldn't tell you die for me. I still owe you for protecting me." Yuki tried to speak but her body refused to move anymore and her mouth couldn't form any words. She could only stare as Lirien's corpse hit the ground and the light left her eyes.
