Chapter 2

Alyssa remained silent for a moment. She didn’t like Lucian, at least not the idea of being involved with a bad guy. “A group of strange outsiders appeared at the West Street warehouse. They stole something from the Umbrel Corporation. They’re being chased not only by Umbrel’s people but also by the S.T.A.R.S. team.”

“Did they steal some data?” Lucian stroked his chin. His gut told him that there was a major issue here and that he should go check it out.

“I don’t know. But you could try to find out. After all, you’re the big boss around here,” Alyssa said with a smile that didn’t make her seem any friendlier.

Lucian didn’t show any outward reaction to Alyssa’s smile, but inside, he felt a bit of annoyance. They had been working together for two years, yet she still wouldn’t accept him.

Well, if that’s the case, don’t bme him for resorting to some shady tactics.

“I’ll go check it out,” Lucian said before standing up and leaving.

As he passed by the bar counter, he reached out and fondled the waitress’ round ass. “Cindy, how’s your father’s illness?”

Cindy was also a character from the Resident Evil series, though not a fortunate one. Her father was sick, and in America, medical treatment costs were astronomical. Desperate, she sought help everywhere and by chance encountered Lucian. Lucian generously lent her money and had her work in his bar to pay off the debt.

Fifty thousand dolrs was an astronomical sum for an ordinary person like Cindy. She couldn’t pay it back immediately, so she had to work slowly to repay it. Lucian often made advances on her, which Cindy usually ignored. Since he never went too far and often checked up on her, she gradually grew used to it. “My dad is doing a lot better now. Thanks, boss.”

“Don’t thank me. It’s just a transaction. Be careful and keep an eye on the pce for me. I need to go out for a bit,” Lucian said with a hearty ugh. He believed that being a true scoundrel was more popur than being a hypocrite.

Cindy’s expression was complex. She didn’t hate Lucian and even felt some gratitude towards him. However, the idea of falling in love with him was a stretch. “I know what to do, boss.”

Armed with the new information, Lucian got back in his car and returned to the warehouse. As soon as he arrived, gunshots rang out.

Boom! There was a loud explosion from the warehouse. Such a bst was beyond the scope of an ordinary crime; whoever made such a rge-scale explosion was clearly an extreme criminal.

Lucian drew his service weapon and went to provide support. As he passed through a narrow alley, he spotted two people running towards him, dressed in strange clothing that seemed like a mix of Japanese kimonos and medieval armor.

He hid behind a wall, took out a hand grenade, pulled the pin, waited a moment, and then tossed it.

  “Watch out!”

Boom! Another explosion followed. The man in the kimono was killed instantly. The man in the armor managed to survive but was not unscathed; the bst’s shockwave threw him against a wall. The close-range explosion had jolted his internal organs, even with his armor.

Lucian didn’t immediately rush over. Instead, he aimed his pistol at the armored man and fired two shots at his head, killing him. Only once he was sure the man was dead did he approach. Surviving the underground gang wars had taught him to be cautious and ruthless.

Looking at the two dead men, Lucian noticed that they seemed no different from ordinary people except that they suddenly disappeared into thin air, leaving only two wristwatches that seemed to have been worn on their arms.

Lucian picked up one of the wristwatches. Immediately, a pleasant chime rang in his ears.

[Ding! System Activation Detected. Energy Source Required. Charging…]

Hearing this, Lucian quickly picked up the other bracelet and made his way to a corner of the warehouse to wait for the system to charge. One bracelet wasn't enough; he needed the other one to complete the charging process.

[Energy Source Sufficient. Charging Complete. Initializing Infinite System…]

[System Binding to Host: Lucian Bckthorn.]

[Status: Age 20. Skills: Basic Firearms Proficiency, Basic Hand-to-Hand Combat. Affiliation: Raccoon City Police Officer (Patrol Division).]

[System Function: Plunder resources from traversed infinite worlds via completed Round Challenge Missions. Exchange points for abilities, items, and enhancements.]

Infinite worlds? Round challenges? This was bigger than just Raccoon City.

"One-way travel? Or can I come back?" Lucian asked, a bit puzzled.

[System Reply: Completion of three Round Challenge Missions unlocks 'Alice in Bordernd' pass. Host may designate this world (Raccoon City) as primary operational base. Completing tasks allows for plundering world resources.]

“That sounds quite interesting. How do I earn points?” Lucian stroked his chin. If he could enhance himself, he could continue to survive in this dangerous world; otherwise, he would eventually turn into a zombie.

  [Newbie Mission Initiated: Eliminate Invaders.]

[Objective: Terminate all 'Rounders' who have infiltrated this world. Reward: 3000 Points (Base). Penalty: -100 Point per escaped Rounder. Failure Condition: System Erasure.]

[Rounder Count: 5 Total. 3 Remaining.]

This mission caught him off guard, leaving him no time to compin.

Drawing his pistol, he continued towards the direction of the gunfire. Along the way, he saw the bodies of Major Crimes Division members. This operation had involved both the Major Crimes Division and the Special Tactics and Rescue Squad, so it seemed like a tough case.

As he continued forward, there were also signs of chaotic knife wounds, as if someone had been hacked to death with a bde.

Ahead in the warehouse, Chris and Jill were exchanging fire with a burly man in a leather jacket. Another man in a bck trench coat was trying to escape but was being held back by the Major Crimes Division.

Lucian made his way into the factory and found another wristwatch on the ground. It seemed that there were five rounders who had invaded this world. He had already killed two, here was another wristwatch, which meant two remained!

He picked up the wristwatch and continued forward, hiding behind a pilr. He saw a man in bck not heading towards the police perimeter but instead turning back and charging in his direction, trying to break through from another side.

Boom! Just as the trench coat man reached the main gate, another explosion sounded.

Boom! The shock wave sent the trench coat man flying into the air. Surprisingly, he wasn’t dead yet, as a strange bck mist enveloped him.

Boom! The trench coat man fell to the ground, and the bck mist dissipated. Although he wasn’t dead, he was severely injured and y there gasping for breath.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Lucian drew his Samurai Edge pistol and fired continuously until the trench coat man was riddled with bullet holes. He emptied the ten-round magazine, with three bullet holes in the man’s forehead alone.
