Haruki’s Morning Trouble

In the previous chapter, we saw that Sabrina will now be staying with Haruki. But how will their life unfold from now on? Watching this will be quite interesting...

Haruki was sleeping in his bed when he suddenly felt someone beside him. His eyes were still closed, and as he reached out with his hand to check, he realized—Sabrina was sleeping next to him! He immediately sat up in shock.

Haruki: "Ahh! Sabrina! What are you doing here? I told you to sleep on the cushion! And why are you in this form?"

Sabrina: "Umhm… the cushion was too smelly, so I came here instead. And if I stayed in my cat form, who knows… you might have climbed on top of me in your sleep~" (She licked her lips.)

Haruki: "W-What are you doing?! Stop that!"

  Sabrina: "Doing what?"

Haruki: "Why did you just lick your lips?!"

Sabrina: "Like this?" (She did it again.)

Haruki's heartbeat quickened, and his cheeks turned bright red.

Haruki: "D-Don’t do that again! Just go back to your cat form! If my mom sees you like this, it'll be a huge problem!"

Sabrina ran her hand through her hair and rubbed her eyes. Her messy morning hair, sleepy eyes, and the fact that she was wearing Haruki’s oversized shirt made him freeze for a moment. It was as if this was the best moment of his life.

Sabrina: "Why are you staring at me like that? Do I look cute?"

Haruki: "No! You just look weird!"

Just then, the door suddenly opened. Haruki panicked and quickly pulled the bnket over Sabrina, pressing her head against his thighs to hide her.

Mom: "Haruki, who are you talking to?"

Through telepathy, Sabrina whispered: "Tell her I’m your wife~"

  Haruki: "Shut up!"

His mom's face turned bright red, like a volcano ready to erupt.

Mom: "HARUKI! Is this how you talk to your mother?! Wait till your father hears about this! Your pocket money is gone, and from today, you're not allowed to go out anymore!"

Haruki: "Mom! Please, listen! I was talking about—" (He pointed to the bnket.)

Haruki quickly removed the bnket, but by then, Sabrina had already transformed back into a cat and was pretending to sleep.

Mom: "So you were yelling at this poor little thing just because she was sleeping on your bed? Haruki! That’s horrible! Have I not taught you to be kind to animals? You should never raise your voice or hands against them! I was going to cut your pocket money in half, but now I’ll take it all! AND I’m taking this manga book too!"

She angrily turned to leave but then gently closed the door instead of smming it—because, after all, "the poor kitty" was sleeping.

Sabrina peeked with one eye to check if his mom was gone, then sat up with a smirk. Haruki, now even more upset after losing both his manga and pocket money, sighed.

Sabrina: "Honestly, your mom is so much nicer than you, Haru~ She really cares about me."

Haruki: "Huh?! Care? I’m sure you did some kind of magic trick, sneaky cat. My mom doesn’t even like cats! Why is she suddenly treating you like a queen?"

Sabrina: "Actually, I did use a spell—but not the one you’re thinking of. It was a spell that reveals true feelings. That means… deep down, your mom LOVES cats, even more than she loves you! But she’s always worried about the mess they’d make, so she never kept one. And now, thanks to my spell, she won’t care if something gets broken—like ptes, curtains, furniture, whatever. Her real feelings are out now!"

Haruki: "Huh?! That spell is kinda scary…"

Sabrina: "Yeah, it’s strong. But not strong enough to work on people who have stronger willpower than my magic… You get what I’m saying, my dear innocent little bird~?"

Haruki: "Yeah, yeah, I get it. Now stop flirting with me!"

  Sabrina: "Okay, fine~"

Haruki: "Anyway, I still don’t know the full extent of your powers… I have no idea how you got my friends to like you so fast, or how you even got into my school!"

Sabrina: "Oh, that? Just a little spell work, eheh~ You’ll understand soon enough."

Haruki: "Ugh, whatever. Just get out now. I need to change my clothes."

  Sabrina: "Fine~"

She transformed back into her cat form and walked out of the room. But then, suddenly remembering something important, she rushed back in.

As soon as she entered, she saw Haruki—shirtless.

His messy hair, the sunlight hitting his body… something about it was too mesmerizing. Her spell, which kept her in cat form, suddenly broke. She transformed back into a human.

Haruki turned around and saw her standing there, her face red, eyes shining, completely frozen in pce.

Without thinking, he grabbed his shirt and threw it at her face.

Haruki: "AHHH! SABRINA! I TOLD YOU NOT TO COME IN! GET OUT!!!"

Sabrina: "I-I’m sorry! I just remembered something, but—I’ll go now!"

With his shirt still on her face, she quickly ran out of the room. She stood outside his door, holding his shirt close, blushing.

  Inside the room, Haruki sighed.

  Haruki: "Hahh… what a weird girl…"

  — A little ter, Haruki left his room and walked downstairs. His mom was standing there, so he asked:

  Haruki: "Uh… Mom, where’s Kitty?"

Mom: "Oh, she’s in the kitchen, having breakfast."

Haruki: "Oh, good… (Phew, I was worried Mom saw her…)"

Mom: "Come on, you should eat too."

Haruki: "I will… but first, I need to go for a morning walk. It helps with digestion!"

Mom: "Do whatever you want, but come back on time."

  Haruki: "Okay, Mom."

He put on his shoes, tied them up, took a deep breath, and opened the door. Stepping outside, he started jogging. He had barely gone a few steps when he heard a voice behind him.

???: "Leaving me behind? That’s not fair."

Haruki turned around and saw Sabrina—wearing his shirt and shorts!

He rubbed his eyes, hoping it was just an illusion. But no. It was really her.

Haruki: "I wish this was an illusion… but no, it's just her. AHHH!"

  He muttered under his breath.

Sabrina: "Hmm? What did you say?"

Haruki: "N-Nothing! Just hurry up, or we’ll be te."

Sabrina: "Ohh? Pying games with me, huh? You know I’m a magical cat. Even if you whisper from that faraway mountain, I can still hear it!"

Haruki was listening to her nonstop talking when, suddenly, he instinctively stepped to the side.

  And then—

A TRUCK was speeding straight toward him.

  Sabrina: "HARUKI! WATCH OUT!!!"

  — To be continued…
