The Earth as we knew it ended on January 1, 2100. Towers that seemed to reach into the sky suddenly appeared in almost every metropolitan area around the world, and with them came the Labyrinth and a threat that loomed over humanity like the Sword of Damocles. Explore the Towers of Tribution, and challenge what lies within, or your world will be consumed by the Labyrinth, turning Earth into a wastend filled with monsters was the warning delivered to every human on the pnet.
As humanity delved into the towers, we discovered more rules, along with the new wealth that y beneath us and within the towers. The towers and Labyrinth also changed those within. Exposure to Mana permanently changed the humans who delved into these pces, enhancing and strengthening them in many ways, which allowed them to delve deeper. Yet even more rarely, humans mutated into something else as long as dormant DNA was activated by the Mana that dwelled within them.
Dwarves, Elves, Orcs, Fairy, Beast-Kin, and other beings from myths and legends suddenly began popping up within the ranks of those that dived into the Labyrinth and towers. This gave rise to even more questions, but neither the Labyrinth nor the towers had real answers just more questions as we were forced to reevaluate our origins and past as well as the secrets that were hidden there.
As the years passed, even more things changed as Mana leaked out of the Labyrinth and Towers of Tribution, Dungeon Rifts formed forcing even more people to step forward to face the dangers. These people became known as Adventurers and gained access to the System which helped them to survive the Labyrinth, Towers of Tribution, and Dungeon Rifts that were appearing all over the world.
As time passed, we discovered the dangers of not keeping all three in check, if we didn't delve into these locations the monsters within would spew forth sughtering everyone they came across until the leader was sin. Adventurers became national resources, celebrities, and some of the richest people on the pnet forcing the governments of the world to create the Adventurers Guild to monitor, direct, and coordinate the Adventurers and make sure the ever-evolving threat of the monster was kept in check.
More importantly, it kept the nations from weaponizing the Adventurers as the System Treaty was signed by every nation on the Earth, both big and small ratified the treaty universally. Between the treaty and the constant threat of the Labyrinth, towers, and rifts peace encompassed the globe for the first time in centuries, at least openly as there are always those who crave power and control, and those who wish for it will always make moves and manipute things in the background.
Ryan studied the comatose man, stunned by what he was seeing before he managed to snag his phone and called the number he had on hand. It rang twice before someone responded, "What worm?" the New York accent was readily apparent and out of pce for this far south, but Ryan ignored it and the tone.
Too much had happened over the st hour and Ryan couldn't keep this to himself, "Yes sir, someone went through processing and integration process to become an Adventurer, they had a mutation and became a Pureblood." Ryan quickly informed the other man.
While Ryan was nervous about going against the guild, his failure to report the emergence of a Pureblood to his master would kill him just as easily, and based on the stunned silence Ryan had made the correct decision. "I will pay you five million, dispose of hi---" The words were cut off as Ryan heard the distinct sound of bones breaking and a hair-raising scream.
Ryan waited on bated breath when he heard a far more cultured voice come over the line, "Who is this?" the man inquired, the tone brooked no argument and demanded both truth and obedience.
Ryan managed to swallow as he shivered, "This is Ryan Caldwell from the Adventurers Guild in Austin, sir, I was just notifying Jason that a man here went through the integration process and also mutated into a Pureblood sir." Ryan quickly reported, that their justice for dealing with internal members was swift and brutal.
Ryan doubted that Jason would survive the next couple of hours, "Very well Mr. Caldwell, a member of my House will be dispatched to your location to help oversee the man's awakening process and to make sure he doesn't get out of hand until he has firm control of himself. If anything happens to the Pureblood, both the guild and you will be held responsible, is that understood Mr. Caldwell?" the man demanded, although the tone was soft, he could feel the lethality in it.
Then again, Purebloods were obscenely rare and thus both honored, respected, and protected by their people which was why Jason's overambition had caused him to try and kill him while the Pureblood was still weak. "Understood sir, two Css A's are already on hand to watch and protect him sir. We will keep him safe, do you wish me to contact the Twilight Council?" Ryan inquired.
The other man, whom Ryan assumed was the Master of the House chuckled, "No, it's my responsibility to tell them and ensure our new member stays safe and realizes how much his life has changed. What is his name and House heritage?" the other man demanded.
Ryan sighed, this had been another confusing thing, "His paperwork lists him as Aaron Jones, but the name registered by the System is Victor Bck and as you know the System cannot get the name wrong for newcomers. As for his heritage, no House was listed but the System indicated it was pending Victor completing some Quest or another." Ryan expined.
Ryan could tell the cultured man was slightly shaken by the report, "Very well, I will report the emergence of this Victor Bck to the council, I hope it goes without saying we expect you and the guild to keep this quiet as long as possible." Ryan nodded his head, even though he knew the other man couldn't see it.
"Of course, sir, we know how to be discrete when necessary." Ryan tried to assure him.
The man on the other end of the line grunted, "Of course, I will be sending Veronica DeLuca to oversee the newcomer. I expect her to be treated with respect and courtesy, Jason is a thug who was foisted on me and has made his st mistake. Good day Mr. Caldwell." with that, the line disconnected leaving Ryan to consider what to do next before he dialed another number to let the leader of the local chapter of the Adventurers Guild in on what had happened.
Ryan knew the woman would be pissed, but she would be even more pissed if he didn't call her. After four rings she picked up, "What?" the demand was instant and irritated.
Ryan knew she was at a lunch with the governor and a few local movers and pushers, "We had a mutation with a new Adventurer, a Pureblood. The local House has been notified, and a Veronica DeLuca has been dispatched to deal with him." Ryan heard cursing for a few moments.
Eventually, she got control of herself, "I am on my way in, whatever you do keep the Pureblood locked down, and don't piss off DeLuca, she is a touchy one. I am on my way in, and whatever you do, make sure this is locked down tight and make sure it doesn't get out!" she cut the connection before Ryan could respond. Ryan sighed and rushed off to see what he could do to keep the situation quiet and survive the next couple of days.
