Chapter 19: A Brick to the Head

Veronika Jones studied the file; the new portion was retively small but that was expected considering the man had only been up and about less than a week, but a surprising amount had happened in that time period. This Victor Bck was the test Demi-Human to be represented by her father's firm, but he may be the most important considering what Victor was and who he could become.

His pre-Intergration life read like a bad romance novel before his life fell apart. The firm had gone out of its way to help Victor out and had earned a rge chunk of money for its efforts and Victor's percentage would continue to accrue with them for a long time. An account with over fifty million dolrs, while not the rgest they had, would earn them consistent income in the coming years which was why the firm had worked so hard to help him.

Then he had gone through training and the procedure to become an Adventurer which triggered his Awakening, between being an Adventurer and now a Pureblood Vampire, the wealth and power the firm could get was unimaginable at this point. One thing was certain, the Senior Partners of Adrian, Cartwright, and Jones wanted Victor Bck happy and progressing not only as an Adventurer but as a Pureblood Vampire as well.

The call that he needed representation so soon was worrying, but considering where they were going, it begged the question of what had happened. The recording of the call was short and to the point, Victor's expnation was vague but dead bodies were involved. Yet the man had gone out of his way to assure his POC that he was completely innocent of any crime, not that it mattered to the senior partners, but Veronika did and hoped Victor wasn't lying.

"Ma'am, we are here!" the driver called out.

Veronika looked up and bnched, there were easily over a dozen patrol cars not to mention all the unmarked vehicles scattered around, not to mention the block had been cut off with vehicles. "Get as close as you can, see if you can get waved through or not," Veronika instructed as she shut down her tablet and put it away as she prepared herself for what was to come.

I pinched the bridge of my nose as I did my best to reign in my growing irritation, "Look, Detective Shultz, we told you our stories, none of us were involved. The blood is dried out, the corpses are cool, and we were not involved in the violence here. You can see that based on the ck of damage to our bodies, clothing, and weapons. Not to mention, the attack was carried out by the people here!" I pointed out as Adriana leaned against me.

I took a calming breath, "Twenty-five bodies Bck! Two of them are human, and for some reason, you are here, yet you have nothing to do with it?" Shultz demanded.

I took a step toward him, a growing snarl on my face when someone else stepped between us, "Enough, Mr. Bck I would recommend that you keep your mouth shut! I am Veronika Jones, representing Mr. Bck, you already have his statement I presume you have asked him any crifying questions. Any further questions can go through me, is that understood?" the woman, I presumed was my wyer demanded.

Shultz bnched and while he clearly wanted to do more backed off as his partner grabbed his shoulder and shook his head, "Yes Miss. Jones, we thank Mr. Bck for his time and for notifying of us the events here. He, his security team, and their vehicles will be released, but please keep him close by in case we need any further crification." the other man stated before pulling Shultz away.

I turned my focus towards the woman and nearly stumbled back in surprise, the pale blonde almost white hair, bright blue eyes, and naturally tan skin was a dead ringer for my ex-wife. The only major difference was this Veronika's bust was slightly rger, was younger than my ex, and was slightly taller coming up to my chest. "Mr. Bck, in the future please don't speak to w enforcement without legal representation present, I know you are inclined to talk to them but don't. They are not your friends or family, they are trying to solve a case and if they can hang it on you, they will without a doubt do so," she advised. I dumbly shook my head, "Now, if you will follow us, I think we could all use some lunch. I know a good Italian pce that isn't too far off." with that, she turned and sauntered away.

So, not only were her tits better but her ass was better as well, I made a mental note that when I saw the bitch to tell her I met her younger and better twin. "What was that? Looking to start a harem by adding her to your stable?" I choked as I gred at Adriana who started ughing as the security teams filtered back into the SUVs.

I shook my head, "No, she is a dead ringer for my ex-wife, it would be too weird to do anything other than speak to this Veronika." I told her as I stepped into the SUV.

Adriana chuckled, "Please, she is hot and completely fuckable, the only reason why you wouldn't be if she became your day-to-day wyer." the Tiger-Kin expined as we pulled away, following a four-door sedan in front of us.

I just shook my head and fired off a quick text to Sara and Yuki tonight, with how many had been killed, I didn't doubt word would get to the press. Then a thought came to me, and I dialed Marcus, the Patriarch picked up after two rings. "Anything wrong sir?" the man quickly demanded.

He was distracted, "How likely is this news going national?" I asked him.

Marcus was quiet for a few moments before cursing, "Very, this will put your status to every House in the Midwest Region, we are going to have to reach out to everyone to smooth things over." the man commented.

I chuckled, "Any way we can do it from the entertainment room in the house you set me up in? It has a big enough screen for a lot of people. Then just set up a rge conference call to every House and see how many we can get for a meet and greet tomorrow night?" I offered.

"I don't have a better idea sir, let me make a few calls and I will get back to you about it," Marcus replied before disconnecting the call.

I sighed and put my phone away, "What's wrong?" Adriana asked as she eyed me.

I grimaced, "Your job is about to get a lot harder; the news of this attack will probably go national which means almost every House within the Midwest Region will know of it within a week or two at most. I am trying to get ahead of it and have a video chat with all the Patriarchs and Matriarchs if Marcus can arrange it. I don't want my first impression to be that I sughtered a whole House." I told her.

Adriana had a contemptive look on her face, "It may work in your favor down the road, I suggest you wait to talk to everyone. Give time for it to sink in before you introduce yourself." she advised as we slid to a stop in front of a rge restaurant.

Adriana moved to get out, but I addressed the driver, "If you guys are hungry, come in as a group and I will cover it." I told the driver as I followed Adriana toward the pce that had a rge sign beled 'Anthony's Italian'. I grabbed the Tiger-Kin's wrist, "Are you going to eat with us?" my question earned a smirk.

  Stupid question!

Before I could open the door, Adriana grabbed it and ushered me inside before I could voice any protest, "Can we get a table for,' the wyer looked back at us and I held up three fingers, 'Three. Discrete and private please." she reyed to the hostess.

She quickly smiled and nodded but before she could lead us into the sitting area, I held up a hand, "My security and drivers will be coming in, nine of them. Their food and drinks are on me. Miss. Jones, is your driver hungry?" I asked her.

She opened her mouth and then closed it before pulling out her phone, "Make that ten, just in case." I told the hostess who smiled and nodded her ascent before leading us back into the restaurant.

The hostess led us to a small table near the back wall of the building that was partitioned off and as I sat down, I noticed most of the noise was muted around us. "Thank you," Veronika told her earning a smile as she accepted the small tip from the wyer. Veronika turned her focus back towards us, "This restaurant is known for a meeting pce simir to the Silver Bullet, but not for the illegal things. This crystal is enchanted and will prevent anyone from hearing anything outside a certain radius, which includes technological and magical eavesdropping. Now tell me what happened back there." Veronika stated as she tapped the crystal in the middle of the table causing it to light up.

I looked at Adriana as I considered the demand, before telling her everything. "The pn was to get Jerome on our side and keep House Williams out of any fight while shaking lose any intel if House Shawn had called in the attack or not. I had no clue it would cause such a votile reaction and start a civil war within House Williams, which might cause the situation to spiral out of control once Tabitha becomes aware of the situation." I told her.

Before she could respond, the server appeared and waited patiently, Veronika touched the crystal again and we quickly pced our food and drink orders. I also informed the server of the other table I would be covering before she scurried off to pce our orders, "Ok, so you set off a civil war and another war is looming on the horizon, but you have the support of the other Houses, in theory." Veronika stated.

I shrugged my shoulders, "That about sums it up, but the other Houses support Marcus, who supports me. In time, they may be loyal specifically to me, but that will take time and effort on my part." I told her, I could tell Adriana wanted to protest, but facts were facts.

Veronika nodded her head in acknowledgment, "Have you notified the council?" I blinked and gnced towards my bodyguard.

The Brazilian shook her head, "As far as I am aware, Marcus hasn't informed them of anything since Victor's appearance is an internal matter and has nothing to do with them." the Tiger-Kin stated.

I held up my hand stopping the wyer from replying, "Council?" I prodded them.

Veronika stared at Adriana until she blushed causing my wyer to grimace, "Think of them as a UN for normal humans, they act as mediators and there is one for each region, Marcus is the Vampire representative and should have informed them not only of your presence but of these events. Don't be surprised if they send an agent to question you about what happened, and while they cannot throw you in jail, they will fine you and even sanction your death if you cause too much trouble for all Demi-Humans." she quickly informed me.

I sat back and sighed as I gred slightly at Adriana who blushed, "That is something I need to know!" I told her. Then I heard my phone chirp, I quickly checked it and sent a message to Sara informing her to check the news and that we would talk after they got off school, not beforehand. "Any other secrets I need to know?" I asked Adrina who blushed and looked away.

I shook my head in frustration, "Why do you flinch every time you look at me?" Veronika inquired as she stared at me.

I grimaced, "You look a lot like my ex-wife, and if you have my file, you know everything about that Miss. Jones." I told her.

It was delivered carefully and softly, but I heard Veronika's response, "I am not her, nor would I ever do something like that." I grimaced.

For some reason, I reached out and squeezed her hand slightly. "I know here,' I tapped my head before touching my chest over my heart, 'here is a different story. Give it time and I understand if you want someone else from the firm to be assigned to my case." I told her.

Her grip became slightly tighter, "No, I can be professional Victor, now as far as the incident at the Silver Bullet, you are in the clear. While the information you let out may have ultimately led to the deaths of the humans, you didn't tell anyone what to do or provide weapons to anyone. Law enforcement won't come for you for that, but the council may do something." Veronika stated.
