The Awakening: Part 3

  The-Phantom-V

Location: UnknownTime: Night The cold wind blowed against my skin atop the mountain cliff's edge, where i stood. The wind carried the scent an earthly aroma as if a mixture of sand and water. Moonlight pierced through the clouds, casting a pale glow over the mountain top. I shiverd and rubbed my arms together. 'Agh, why does it have to be so cold at night?' I took a deep breath as the wind blowed and—COUGH-COUGU dust went into my nose. 'WHY IS THERE DUST ATOP A MOUNTAIN?!' I sighed, and turned my gaze towards the city below 'I should get this over with quickly before it starts raining.'

The ancient city below stretched on endlessly, its edges twisting, merging and vanishing into the horizon—literally. The farther I looked, the more distant the end became, until the skyline itself seemed to twist and turn. Slowly, mist began to appear in the streets below, hiding the smooth cobblestone roads from my sight in the dark of the night. Ornate paper nterns swayed in the breeze under the shelter of several pagodas wooden eaves, their golden light flickering as they kept the darkness at bay.

The ear piece in my ear crakled to life with a slight static noise as a female voice spoke "Have you scouted the area yet? You don't have much time before the target is done with the meeting."

I replied "I would say so, yes. I should still have some time to scout out the p—" As i was speaking suddenly the voice spoke over me "Make sure none live." And with that the ear piece crackled again and went silent. 'Every damn time.'

Just as i was done talking rain came—light, hesitant drops tapping against rooftops and falling down into the mist-covered cobblestone streets below. Some streets were completely dark, while few glowed under the light of ornate paper nterns hanging from the shelter of the wooden eaves, keeping the mist slightly at bay.

'Just had to rain when i don't want it to, doesn't it? Last thing i need is a cold.' I thought to myself, as i tightened the straps of the belt over my chest which held the sword on my back.

My gaze settled on the towering skyscraper at the heart of the city—a dark spire rising above the mist like a modern phantom in the ancient city. It's dark gss exterior barely reflecting any light around it. A circur balcony wrapped around the entire top floor.

'That's where the target is. Time to get to work.'

As the wind died down a little. I brought my right foot forward, putting just enough force on it—with barely a rustle of my hair, and a slight crack appearing in the cliff's edge—I leaped. Once more, cold wind and slight drops of rain brushed against my skin as i leaped through the night sky, towards the modern skyscraper standing in the center of the ancient city.

Still mid-leap, i started falling down. Down towards the massive dark window of the balcony which seperated the inner part of the skyscraper—as i got nearer moment by moment.

I Unsheathed my sword—a straight dark katana with hundreds of cracks across its bde—mid-air and pointed its tip towards the dark window of the balcony. It all happened quickly, almost too quickly, like a blur. The tip of my sword punctured through the dark gss window as i channlled a fraction of energy into the sword, and from the sword to the window.

With a sharp CRACK, the dark gss exploded inward—towards the soon to be victims—piercing the flesh of the guards standing inside. Within a second the screams started, as i went towards the ground through the now broken and exploding window to stop my momentum.

As i was in the middle of skiding to a halt the screams began.

One of them had a hand on his right eye "AGHH! My Eye! My fucking eye!!" blood and a dark fluid leaked out the now freshly emptied socket where his eye used to be, another was on the ground trying to crawl away. "G-God, My leg!! I can't feel my fucking leg!!" he shouted, his eyes wide as tears traveled down his cheeks. Shards embeded in his arms as he crawled, he didn't seem to have notice he was crawling on the broken shards of gss which only embedded them even deeper in his arms.

Another fell to the ground on his knees, a shard—Bigger than the others—embedded deep in his cheek and through it protruding out of the other side of his cheek, half his tongue—cut almost clean—hanged out of his mouth with only a slight thread of meat, his hands under his tongue holding it as blood dripped down to the ground from his half hanging tongue. He witherd in pain, his eyes wide open as his fingers tried to twitch yet he could not let go of his tongue.

'That one shouldn't be a problem.' My gaze shifted.

One of the men fell to the ground as one of the gss shards went past him, but not without slicing his throat, blood sprayed out on the ground like from a fountain. Then there was one on the ground, clutching his hand with a few shards embeded in his right hand and arm.

For but a moment there was silence.

The target—Sis Roark, was sat on the chair behind the oak-table, in front of him another man stood in a bck suit. In front of them, on the table was an open briefcase with money in it, alot of it. Sis was the first to come to his senses, immediatly he took out his gun and pointed it towards me, and shot twice, startling the rest out of their trance like staring.

Quickly, I jumped to the right—the shatterd gss under my boot broke into even more pieces with a sharp CRUCH—narrowly missing the bullets and swung my sword midair, towards the three men on the left. For a brief moment the cracks on my bde glowed slightly red, the bde detached in pieces from the cracks and flew forward—increasing the swords reach—yet still bound together with a red energy going from each piece to the hilt in my hand.

The bde flew towards the first man's face. The pieces closer to his face attached themselves together, forming a small bde filled with cracks yet still linked through the red energy going through every fragment which remained suspnended in the air and connected to the hilt in my hand.

"WA—!" He screamed as the bde flew towards his face, splitting his face diagonally in half and out through his other cheek. His right eye remained in pce, unblinking, still intact to the rest of his body. The left half of his severed face slid down slowly—dragging trails of red with it, like an avanche of meat. Brain matter fell out from the right intact part of his body, his mouth frozen in a half-formed scream that would never finish.

Before the man's sliced brain had even fallen onto the ground, with a slight pull of the swords hilt backwards. The pieces of the bde suspended in the air were pulled and with it the bde's direction changed towards the second man's neck.

As the bde changed its directon towards the man's neck, a woman's voice echoed "Lorne!". His friend—girlfriend?—jumped towards him to push him out of the way, yet, instead of the man's neck my bde met the back of her head first. It sliced cleanly through her bck hair, skull, then brain and out through the middle of her eyes—splitting both her eyeballs and retinas in two, heading straight towards and through the man's neck.

His head remained banced on his neck for a moment, before the woman's body finally hit the man's chest. The force of her jump shoving his body back. His severed head tilted forward and fell onto the woman's, hitting and knocking loose her sliced head that had remained atop her skull, till now.

The man's face was locked in an expression of shock—eyes momentarily flickering towards the woman as his head fell. Mouth slightly agape as if to scream, but his mouth was no longer attached to his lungs. Blood erupted from his neck's—now headless stump, shooting out twice in rhythmic bursts. The first burst erupting upward like a broken pipe, the second bursting in thick short ropes, the st desperate pumps of his still-beating heart as it slowed down.

As his decapitated head finally hit the ground with a heavy THUD, at nearly the same time as both their bodies. The woman's split, top-part of her head hit the ground with a wet Squelch and slight Thud spshing dark red blood and gray jelly-like sludge onto the ground. Her upper-half severd eyes, having been cut from her skull and her eyeballs, fell out onto the ground, spshing dark thick liquid where the severd eyes fell.

Severed lower halves of her eyes remained connected to her still pulsing severd brain, as it slipped out of her severed skull—a dark-red gray lump, wet and thick like jelly, slowly oozing blood at the edges like a sponge expelling fluid instead of absorbing it—and onto the man's chest.

Her lower sliced-in-half eyes oozed more thick dark liquid than her upper-severd eyes that y on the ground. Her eyes lower-halves now looked like two cut in half, thin, crumpled bags of flesh. The crumpled eyeballs lower-halves which hung from the optic nerves were barely kept from touching the ground only by the height of the man's ribcage.
