Chapter 24

Myra’s breathing grew shallow and rapid, her chest rising and falling noticeably beneath her trembling hands. The flush on her skin deepened to a fiery red, and her emerald eyes held a dazed, almost unfocused quality.

“Freya,” she gasped, her voice a breathless whisper, “my skin… it’s tingling all over. So… sensitive. Everything feels… heightened.” Her fingers tightened on the fabric covering her chest, as if seeking some form of protection or control over the strange sensations coursing through her. Her body seemed to hum with an unfamiliar energy, a potent and overwhelming wave of feeling that left her both bewildered and strangely vulnerable.

Freya watched this unfolding scene with a growing sense of unease and a dawning realization that this was no ordinary reaction to a calming tea. The symptoms were… unusual, to say the least. Her centuries of observing mortal ailments offered no immediate expnation for this sudden onset of heightened sensitivity and internal heat.

A flicker of panic crossed Freya’s features. This was beyond her realm of experience with mortal physiology. Had one of the herbs reacted in an unforeseen way with Myra’s blood? Had the earlier feedings somehow triggered this? Her mind raced, trying to decipher the cause of this unexpected and rather arming transformation.

“Myra,” Freya asked, her voice regaining a measure of its usual steadiness, though tinged with a clear note of urgency. She stepped closer, her gaze searching Myra’s face for any sign of distress beyond the apparent physical sensations. “Tell me exactly what you are feeling. Is there any pain? Dizziness? And… what do you need me to do? How can I help you?” The ancient vampire, usually so composed and in control, found herself at a loss, facing a situation that defied her vast knowledge and experience.

Myra looked at Freya, her eyes wide and filled with a confusing mix of sensations. The tingling intensified, spreading like wildfire across her skin, making even the lightest touch of her own clothing feel strangely intense. Her breath hitched again, a soft moan escaping her lips despite her efforts to control it.

“I… I don’t know,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “I’ve never felt anything like this before. It’s… overwhelming.” Her gaze flickered down to her hands clutching her chest, then back up to Freya, a silent plea for understanding in her emerald eyes. “What… what do you think is happening to me, Freya? And… what should I do?” The intensity of the sensations was both bewildering and unsettling, leaving her feeling lost and completely reliant on the ancient being before her for answers.
