Chapter 4 - First contact

A massive chimera rose from the tree line, bearing its fangs at its would-be enemy. The creature stood on its hind legs as it roared down to strike at whatever was opposing it. At that moment, we saw a flash—some kind of arrow hit its eye. The chimera opened its wings, massive in comparison to its size, and started to fly up. It launched a fireball from its lion-like head, smashing into the forest and causing flames to erupt like a wildfire, spreading throughout the area.

The strange thing was that the creatures we knew were only aggressive if aggro of course only if logic applied here. Someone had attacked this creature. Logically, we couldn’t possibly have attracted its attention as we were not within its range. But we could still be collateral damage if we didn’t move soon. As I turned to Overon, I saw exactly what I didn’t want to see— that big, obnoxious smile on his face. He wanted to fight that thing. The question was, how did he expect to beat it with his bare fists? We barely knew anything about this strange new place. All we knew was that there were monsters, and we were in the bodies of our characters. We could barely even control our movements, and the sheer strength we possessed still hurt. As I contemplated, I remembered a very important fact—we had no weapons whatsoever. We could’ve equipped all the armor, but without our weapons, we were just punching bags. The capability to fight was nonexistent in my mind as I looked up to see Overon gone.

At some point, the fool of a brother of mine had jumped into battle.

Without a moment's hesitation, Overon, now in his formidable character's body, lunged forward, his determination outweighing any sense of caution. The chimera, now fully enraged by the assault on its eye, turned its attention towards him. With a thunderous roar, it charged, its massive claws slashing through the air.

I cursed under my breath and attempted to sprint after Overon, knowing that I couldn't let him face that monstrous beast alone. As I closed the distance, I saw Overon body slamming into the chimera's swipes, his powerful blows leaving visible impact marks on the creature's thick hide.

A surge of energy coalesced around Overons fist as he delivered a devastating blow to the chimera's side. The impact sent shockwaves through the air, causing the beast to stagger back with a bellow of pain.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

The sheer force of Overon's attack stunned both the chimera and me. It was a display of power that bordered on awe-inspiring especially since didn’t actually hit it with his fists but with his body.

"Overon, what the heck was that?! Did you really just attempt to attack that thing with your whole body?” I exclaimed, momentarily forgetting the danger of our situation.

Overon grinned, a mix of exhilaration and satisfaction shining in his eyes. "Told you I had a few tricks up my sleeve!"

“What tricks? It’s obvious you have no idea what you’re doing. Also how are you gonna land, did you think of that genius?”

But there was no time to dwell on the success of Overon's attack. The chimera, though wounded, was far from defeated. Its rage only intensified, fueling its next onslaught of attacks.

"We need to finish this quickly! Or run away!" I called out, refocusing on the task at hand.

With renewed determination, we pressed on, combining our strengths to wear down the chimera's defenses.

Just as it seemed like the chimera was preparing for its next attack, a voice cut through the chaos. "Hold your ground!"

I glanced in the direction of the voice and saw a group of figures emerging from the smoke and flames. Elves—graceful and armed with bows and swords, moving with the fluidity of nature itself.

One of them, presumably their leader, stepped forward, her eyes assessing the situation with cool determination. From her perspective, she definitely hadn’t seen any of our attacks and must’ve thought that we were just some passerbyers

"We'll handle the chimera. You two, get to safety."

Relief washed over me at the sight of potential allies. Without hesitation, I nodded to Overon as he looked perplexed at me with the obvious look of “I’m gonna fall on my face”. He did fall on his face as I sprinted back towards the edge of the forest after I picked him up, away from the raging battle.

As we caught our breath, I turned to Overon. "What in the world just happened?"

Overon grinned, the thrill of battle still evident in his eyes. "I told you this place was gonna be exciting!"

“When did you say that??? You literally took off without me!”

As I shook my head, a mix of awe and exasperation. "We need to find out more about this world and figure out how to control our powers. Starting with those elves. They might have answers."

And so, with adrenaline still coursing through our veins and a newfound determination, we made our way towards the group of elves, ready to unravel the mysteries of this unfamiliar realm.
