Chapter 3 - Where am I? Bro is that you?

As I drifted off to sleep, dreading the day to come, I continued to contemplate that strange message. "Could it have been some kind of new event or world expansion?" Either way, I wasn’t going to dwell on it as I drifted off. I remembered the times I actually saw my brother. After he joined the UN naval force, I hadn’t seen him at all for a long while, and I probably wouldn’t for even longer with my job. In about seven hours, I had to turn in an assignment, so I wasn’t really all that happy about having to wake up in four hours, but it was fun, the game and all. That’s how I thought. Wouldn’t it have been awesome to live in a world like that, be as free as Deserter and Overon, no work, all play and adventuring all day? That was truly the dream of anyone in my shoes. Anyway, that’s just a dream for someone I can’t even imagine anymore…

  ………CLAP………

I slapped the damn fly out of the way and covered my eyes. There was light in my eyes; I assumed it was daytime and turned over, covering my head with my blanket.

"This feels weird…" The fabric of my blanket was fluffy, yet this felt like leather. I decided to open my eyes. There was an abnormal feeling; "Why am I wearing clothes? I could have sworn I was in my PJs!" I said out loud with a very unfamiliar voice. "What’s up with my voice? It’s so deep and rusty, like a grown man."

As I looked down at my hands, a strong muscular physique had replaced my skinny, flabby arms. My beer belly was gone too. That’s when I finally noticed my surroundings. I was no longer in my room. What surrounded me now was a vast plains area, and I was lying under a tree. The fresh air filled my lungs with extreme purity, and I could hear the vast noises produced by wildlife, even a river flowing in the distance. I was definitely not in my comfort zone, and yet that raised a lot of questions like, for starters, how did I get here, and why did I decide to sleep under a tree?

After a small panic attack, I felt some kind of calming effect surge through my body, allowing me to focus once again and start analyzing the facts.

  Facts:

  • I went to bed and somehow ended up outside.

  •
  • This is not my body.

  •
  • I don’t recognize anything…

  •

Truthfully, I was really lost on my next move. For now, I decided to head towards the river, as I heard somewhere that following them usually helps to orient lost travelers. I took a single step and fell. Seems like my sense of balance is off and something weird—referring to the step I took. I had left a sizable imprint on the ground, and now I was about 10 meters from my origin point. I was truly very perplexed. I assumed this body is faster than it seems, but that doesn’t explain that it’s not physically possible for a person to do something like that. This just raised more questions, not to mention the present problem, which was I still had no idea where I was.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

About 20 minutes had passed of me falling on my face when I finally mastered ish walking. Apparently, I had to actively think about walking slowly; it caused some issues, but after about 10 minutes, I managed to do so subconsciously. As I traversed through the open forest, I saw many things that honestly scared the crap out of me. For example, a carnivorous squirrel, birds with teeth, even a hog with spines on its back. The interesting thing was all these scary creatures seemed to be actively avoiding me for some reason. I started walking a bit faster because I got paranoid that something else was causing it, like a bigger beast.

As I approached the stream I had heard before, I realized one strange thing: I had somehow heard it from over 4 km away. I shrugged it off as it could have been that maybe I got lost and it was closer somewhere else or something. As I walked over to wash my face, I unconsciously splashed the water on my face, calming down and regaining composure. I saw the reflection. I screamed so loud I’m pretty sure the whole forest heard it. There was a demonic creature staring back at me, a humanoid wearing a suit with two sets of wings, a top hat, and red eyes and pointy ears. There was one explanation: I had died, and that demon was my torturer in hell….

Some time had passed, and I decided to look again. To my surprise, red eyes looked straight back at me, glowing with a wary mist-like effect. That was when I noticed it.

“It can’t be… this suit, this face, those wings… IT'S DESERTER!!!!”

I was staring into the eyes of my character from NWM. Hundreds of questions flooded my mind.

  “How, why, where??”

After a while, I realized it wasn’t a dream since I had punched a tree and it snapped in half, correlating with how the game was except for one very important factor… IT HURT like a lot. Lost and afraid, I sat, analyzing my body. I had never had a strong body; sure, I was big but on the heavier side of things. Having a six-pack was new for me, not to mention this package was quite the looker. I think my main issue was controlling my looks; I could only assume that this place had people, and Deserter was an arch-demon, something a bit uncommon even in NWM. I couldn’t expect good reactions as my kind was kind of persecuted due to misconceptions by a few PKers (player killers), which was why I had a humanized form as an ability. Unfortunately, I had zero to no idea how to activate it, not to mention any other abilities Deserter had. Due to the strength I had previously shown a tree, I could only expect that I had all my abilities.

As I was contemplating this, I heard a scream followed by a loud crashing noise and a smoke cloud in the distance. Then another scream had the same effect. The scream was definitely human, and based on the crashing noise, there were only two options: one, something was fighting someone, and two, someone like me. I rushed over with extreme caution, as slamming my face to the ground was not pleasant. As I approached, I saw a glimpse of a person fly by me, crashing into the nearby trees. Smoke from the dirt and debris filled the surrounding area; all I could see was the outline of a humanoid creature attempting to stand as it turned towards me. All I saw was golden yellow eyes in the dust cloud, and a sense of fear filled me; just what was this inhuman creature currently looking at me.

As the smoke cleared, I saw it clearly for the first time, wearing armor-like clothes, a humanoid body with yellow eyes, a rim hat….

  “Deset…er?”

  “OVERON?!?”

I couldn’t believe my eyes that it was actually him! I wasn’t alone!

  “Overon is that really you?”

A crying face looked at me as I said those words.

“Bro I’m—I thought I was gonna die (painful cries).”

“Calm down Overon, get a grip.”

“Bro where are we, and why are you Deserter???”

Before I managed to respond, a loud screeching noise was heard, leaving a ringing noise in our heads.

  And then we saw it…
