Chapter 1: Clueless

  August, 2011

It's been a week and Collin still didn't understand why they had to visit now. Were they really doing this because of him? Everything was fine in Collin's life, until st year when his older siblings became ill for no reason. Naturally, his parents were distraught and visited his brother and sister many times in the hospital.

Then one day they decided it would be a good idea to stay in their hometown for awhile. Collin's new school was called William Graves Highschool or Graveyard High because lots of horror movies were filmed in this area.

How is this helping anybody? Was this really to keep him focused on sports? Collin's family wanted him to become an athlete and to do that he has to get a sports schorship. Unfortunately, ever since the incident he's been scking in his football training. The st game he was in he was basically a benchwarmer. But his coach was able to put in a good word for him.

Collin pulled up to the house his family was renting and felt a pang in his heart. He had dark skin, vitiligo spots across his nose that looked like freckles, brown curly hair, and dark eyes. The clothes he was wearing was an anime graphic-t, a letterman jacket, sport shorts, and Converse sneakers.

Everything felt weird. Collin doesn't remember much about Kismet City, Connecticut, only that he was 8 years-old when they moved. He got off his motorcycle and trudged inside. "Dad?"

A door opened somewhere in the house as a man stood on the second-floor balcony. His dad was Romani with dark skin, long bck hair, amber eyes, and was dressed in denim clothes. "Gd your back...I was getting worried."

"Just needed to clear my head," Collin expined as he took off his sneakers.

His dad nodded. "I talked with your mother today and she's doing fine. Your brother and sister's conditions are not getting worse."

"Why did this happen? I don't get it," he spoke. "They were always healthy."

"You know it wasn't easy for us and things don't always go as you imagine," Collin's dad sighed as he came down the stairs. "It was hard for your mother to get pregnant, we prayed for you and your siblings. Then one day three little miracles were born."

Collin was conflicted as he hugged his dad. "I...I do understand."

"Great, you start school tomorrow so let's have a feast!" his dad patted his back. "We have Indian food and apple cider."

Later that night, Collin heard tapping and woke up. It was 1:13 in the morning as he gnced around his moonlite room. He heard the noise again and sat up as a shadow flew across his window. This made Collin jump out of bed and peek out his curtains, something fpped in the distance and screeched.

"A fruit bat?" Collin guessed. He turned and heard something hit the carpet.

  "THUD!"

It was an old scrapbook and what slipped out was a wrinkled drawing. Collin bent down and picked-up the items, he gazed at the two people in the drawing.

One was him and the other was a girl with long bck hair and different-colored eyes. Scribbled next to them were their ages, he was 8 years-old and she was 7 years-old. Above their heads Collin saw two words: Best Friends.

Announcement Hello! It's come to my attention that traditional novels and webnovels are kinda different. For me...I'm more traditional.

Just to let y'all know my MC isn't gonna suffer, but he will be put into situations. I've learned a few things from statistics and social media about how minorities are being depicted. Whenever there's a person of color as the MC they always have to be in pain for people to care, they can't be carefree.
