Forbidden Lineage

The creation of the spark of divinity?”

“Yes. The path of ascension was stripped away from the lesser divine but remained in mortals through something known as the Spark of Divinity. You see, mortals also were born from the powerful force known as Life. This force is split into two: Mortality and Immortality.”

He put two white fingers up.

“Both are divine, but only one side led to the creation of gods and concepts, while the other led to the creation of mortal life. However, humans are part immortal due to their souls, making them eligible for ascension. This phenomenon is known as the Spark of Divinity, and it is attached to every human’s soul.”

‘So, becoming an immortal is merging an immortal soul and body. Turing both immortal...I think.’

“With the Age of the Gods over, the servants took over Heaven and renamed themselves as the True Celestials. And for a while, the Mortal Stars were of no threat. In fact, Everlight and her kin decided to study the Mortal Stars because they believed that they could regain their ability to ascend if they found the Supreme One’s lineage--which had been passed down to a young mortal in the Divine Realm. It is believed that he was the first mortal to ever have met the Heavenly Supreme and form a Connection.”

Just then, Luna cut in with a question. “Wait…were the lineages passed down through connection?”

“Yes, the core of attaining a lineage is through connection. That is how the Mortal Star, Atemir, was given the lineage. She shared a connection with the Moon Goddess as her priestess. This was the same for the other seven, including the Heavenly Supreme.”

“I see. Was that man Jang Feng Ho?”

Razchar nodded. “Jang Feng Ho was unaccounted for, so most of the Servants came to believe that the Heavenly Supreme could not have created a lineage. After all, he never allowed the mortals to worship him, so they assumed he hadn’t made a connection with anyone.”

“… but he made one with Jang Feng Ho.”

“Exactly, Jang Feng Ho was merely a child when he caught the Heavenly Supreme’s interest. He was a young genius whose mind even impressed the gods. In the end, the young man grew up without opening a soul gate or ever realizing that he was carrying the Supreme One's lineage. The qualities of his lineage kicked in when he had his first two children. Both of them opened their Soul Gates at a young age and started the Ryu cn…”

'So the Feng cn originated from the Divine Realm! Who would’ve thought!’ Luna almost ughed at herself.

The history of the Feng Cn dates back many centuries. It was once a powerful cn of martial artists, helping out emperors and leading armies. But the biggest mystery of the cn was the one who started it, Jang Feng Ho. On top of that, Luna’s memories themselves had never traveled that far, so the legendary leader was also a mystery to her.

“The Mortals started a new era of strength. In a godless world roaming with these like corrupted beasts and corruption itself, mortals pushed forward for a few. This was known as the Age of Heroes.”

“The Age of Heroes?” Luna thought deeply as she listened carefully. 'After the gods lost to their servants, the Age of Heroes began, and my cn was the center of it. I’m kind of impressed.'

She remained quiet as she let the Guardian of Truth continue. He was answering two questions right now: the role of zenshi and what part she pyed in all of this.

“The Age of Heroes was a great era, more humans rose to the challenge. Many awakened the spark of divinity, and more humans turned into heroes. They no longer needed the gods or the True Celestials to protect them from the cursed creatures. And that’s something their new gods did not like…”

  “Starting another war?”

He slowly shook his head. “War isn’t the right word for it. It was more like an execution…divine beings were way more powerful than mortals. Having great martial arts skills and the ability to manipute life essence didn’t take away the fact that they were just humans.” Razchar expined. “The servants massacred the entire cn and erased that era from time and everything that connected with qi. The sons and their followers were all killed during that purge. Even those who escaped to the Mortal Realm.

But Jang Feng Ho was lucky because he had no soul gate. His sons helped him escape the divine realm and sent him to a realm where most mortals were powerless after being forsaken by the gods. Over five hundred years had passed since the end of the gods, and the mortals of the second realm now treated magic as a myth. At the same time, Feng Ho had not awakened, but his lineage blessed him with a very long lifespan and great luck because he eventually made it to a mysterious Isnd that harbored the remaining mortals of the divine realm."

  “Could that Isnd be…”

“The same pce Storm Rider and her cohort discovered? Yes, it is…hehe.” Razchar finished her statement with a grin. It looked so odd on his face that Luna could’ve sworn as a glitch in his dark personality.

“It was a piece of the divine realm. I call it the Wandering Isnd, a creation of the god of Fate. From there, I could no longer track him down through my Domain. It's like the isnd was solely created to protect him; the god of fate was indeed a smart bastard.”

His eyes traveled to the stone walls as he suddenly turned quiet. The god of Fate had foreseen all of this. He had known that the gods would perish and informed the other gods. It was then that he figured out that the war didn’t come as a surprise to the gods because the gods also had fates. They weren’t as fwless as they thought.

‘Ha! So I was right…sort of…’ Luna could not help but smirk from within. She had been right about the cn having a connection with the isnd.

“So I assume that’s how the cn continued?”

Razchar turned to her. “Jang Feng Ho lived on there…I am not sure of what happened to him until Storm Rider came to me. What I know is that once the age of heroes came to an end, the servants made sure that this mistake could never be repeated. The Age of Heroes almost created the Age of the New Gods…. So to stop it from ever happening, they borrowed power from the outer realms and pced a curse on the Concept of Truth and Fate. Then, they murdered the remaining Mortal Stars to end the gods completely.”

Luna’s face darkened. Her intuition had led her to believe that only the truth was corrupted. But to think that the curse also corrupted Fate. Every human was connected to fate. If they learned the Truth, then their fate too would be corrupted.

“So the main purpose of the curse is to prevent to rise of new gods.”

“Yes. Gods were not fwless, they’re not Fateless, and can die. However, to grow a domain as a god, one must have a name. He or she must exist for them to be recognized by the universe. To become forgotten is to have no fate, no name, no existence! Your domain cannot grow.”

Luna swallowed. All of this was a lot to take in. The curse was there to doom them. “But wait…what happened to the Supreme One’s lineage after Jang Feng Ho. After the isnd was destroyed?”

“Jang Feng Ho lost the lineage after he left the isnd with his family. He ascended shortly after but kept his abilities hidden and raised the Feng Cn. The lineage stayed within his family due to Connection. And for centuries, it stayed that way until the New Age that started with the Fall. In this new age, Mao Feng accidentally passed it on to your father.”

“My father?” Luna’s mouth almost dropped upon hearing this. She knew her father was powerful, but never thought that he was that powerful.

'Also, if Jang Feng Ho ascended, did he become an immortal like Storm Rider? Is he still alive? I have so many questions. But so little time!' Luna mpooned as she tried to analyze everything.

Just then, Razchar’s expression turned warm, and his blue eyes suddenly showed emotion. “Zheng Feng was a great man. And with the Supreme One’s lineage, he became the first human to break past the constraints of zenshi and attain the Concept of Truth. This is how I learned everything through your father.”

Luna faced the floor. So it was possible to ascend to the fifth gate with zenshi. But what was the cost? What did her father pay to become a fifth gate user as a zenshi user?

As though reading her mind, Razchar’s next words shook Luna’s soul.

“Your father was a threat to the servants and the worlds they had created. When he learned the Truth through our connection, he wasn’t affected by the curse--meaning that he had found a way around it. I believe this was the true power of the Supreme One’s lineage and why the others consider it a forbidden lineage. Your father grew so powerful that he came through the broken shadow realm and met me. This was the true potential of the god’s lineage!”

‘Hmph! Why am I not surprised by that?’

When he was done reminiscing, Razchar shifted his gaze back to Luna. It was cold once again. “Anyway, with your father’s help. I got to learn about how the Servants tampered with mortal souls. How they tampered with the spark of divinity and turned mortals into controlble animals.”

  Rumble!

Before he expined, there was a powerful tremor that violently shook the mental space.

They didn’t have much time left.

“I guess I won’t get to the details. But you should know that you are quite blessed not to have the spark of divinity in you. The spark attached to mortals in your realm is the spark that creates zenshi. Zheng Feng figured this out and attempted to force himself onto the true path.

"But zenshi repels Life. It is a twisted version of the Creator’s power. To break away from it, you must shatter all your gates and hope to survive.”

Luna was afraid to ask the next question. Did liberating her sister from this false path mean her potential death?

  “…did he succeed?”

Razchar was silent again. “I…I don’t know. He was already dead, unfortunately, and no longer had the lineage.”

Luna sighed. She was somehow gd to hear so. However, now that The Guardian of Truth had mentioned it. Her father’s death might have been orchestrated by the Demigods, who were bothered by his ascension to the fifth gate.

'There is more to all of this, but time isn't on my side. It looks like I have to discover the rest for myself.' Luna thought. 'At least now I know that I am the one who passed down the forbidden lineage to.'

This conclusion didn’t come from nothing, of course. Her blood might not have been connected to the lineage but it pyed a huge in bringing out what the Lineage was truly capable of. Her affinity for qi and her overall quick development were results of both these elements working together.

Storm had mentioned something like this back when she was training. With the lineage and her blood, her stepping onto the true path was assured.

‘What lord Artemis has is incomplete because he cks the special divine blood. Wait...does that mean that Father was also a special divine blood like me?’

An excited smile appeared on her pale face as she put every piece together. She did not need Razchar to expin any further concerning her father and the Supreme One’s lineage. She could figure out the rest by just recalling her experiences until now.

“But…how do the lineages exist if the Mortal Stars were killed?”

“Once again, Connection. The lineages cannot be destroyed, so they keep on returning for mortals to acquire them. However, without blood like yours, the lineages remain weak, incomplete. For example, the Sun’s inheritor can only use a quarter of its potential.”

“I see, I am guessing the lineages resurfaced as relics,” Luna scratched her chin in thought.

“Yes, all seven lineages returned in relics that were connected to the gods.” The being nodded with a faint smile. “House Artemis acquired a Moon relic and gained the Moon goddess’s lineage. House Ares acquired the Bronze Child and gained the war god’s lineage. The Fire Keepers acquired the Sun’s Ember and gained the Sun god’s lineage. The other is the Ice Rose, and its lineage is yet to be awakened. The other three…I don’t know where they are.”'

“Fair enough…” Luna sighed, feeling satisfied with the information the being had shared with her. As of now, she had learned so much that it almost made the price feel worth it. She now knew why Corruption considered her an anomaly…a threat to the Demigods.

And they were right, she was a real mortal star! And the one who inherited the Forbidden Lineage.

With that in mind, Luna rexed one more time and tried calling out for the Sun’s Ember. This time, she managed to will the bde into reality without feeling like she was about to die.

“I don’t know your motives, Lord Razchar. But I have made my decision…how do I free you?” she smiled weakly as she stared the being before her. If anything could break those chains, it had to be this sword.

Suddenly, a vague memory crossed her fragile mind. The secrets revealed by Razchar had triggered a strange feeling. Bit by bit, her foggy memories were less foggy. She then heard noises coming from all directions, all of them connecting to the memories she had forgotten by force.

“Hamido…” she muttered a name subconsciously as a few events started to py out in her mind. The whole train incident came to her like a fever dream. In moments, her interaction with Hamido was as clear as day in her mind.

'How could I forget such a thing....'

The curse’s effects were fading, meaning that she had attained the curse itself.

She trembled slightly, uncertain of what was next for her.

As if noticing what had just occurred, Razchar smiled at her and mentioned a key detail about the hex, “The curse will take full effect when you leave this dungeon,” he stretched his ancient body his current form started to lose its appearance.

His hands were thinning, and his robe was returning to the shreds. Keeping this form of his wouldn’t have been a problem if his Soul wasn’t bound to Artemis’s garden. It's what the chains were for.

“As for how to free me…” he paused, and his eyes moved to Luna’s sword-wielding hand. The corners of his mouth twitched. “I want you to use that sword on me and take my qi for yourself.”

Luna knit her eyebrows in confusion. She immediately shook her head. “You deities are psychopaths.”

“Trust me, I know.” He ughed weakly and slowly turned around to observe the grand interior.

“I thought freedom was what you wanted.”

“Death is my freedom, Lunaris Feng. My era is done, even if I leave this pce, I won’t st long because I don’t have my original powers. The sorcery of names is only powerful is the master understands the core of Truth. I understand the core, but Truth is no longer my domain. I just reach for it some times because of the connection we had.

With that, I obviously don’t stand a chance in the outside world. All that I have is my life essence, which I am offering to you as my gift. With it, you will be able to exist between both the Heavens and Earth. On top of that, you are still too weak compared to the other humans who follow the true path. I am offering you a fighting chance.”

“A fighting chance?” Luna stared intently at the being’s back.

“When you wake up, you will be too weak to actually fight. Unlike zenshi, qi comes from the world around you. I’m sure you can tell there is chaos happening outside of this special space of ours. As of now, the essence in your body is building a Soul Gate. You will have almost nothing left in your system, and you won’t have enough time to replenish your qi. You will be too weak…” he finished.

Luna was silent for a while. She already knew he was incapable of lying. If this is what he wanted, then she would gdly do so.

‘But if I take in a deity’s essence. What would happen to my soul?’

After giving it some thought, she stepped forward and the being faced her once again. In just minutes, his face had aged by fifty years. He no longer looked thirty but fifty with a thin, dry face.

She pointed the sword at him and asked in a deep tone, “What are the consequences of killing you?”

Razchar almost ughed. Had she forgotten he was a traitor?

“None. But the Mildrith will start to die. For centuries, I’ve been its life source. And since you're granting me the pardon of death, the tree will vulture on anything before finally dying. When it eventually does, make sure you are as far away from this tower as you can. It will alert the others….a demon or an actual deity might decide to join the party.”

Luna didn’t appreciate his usage of the word party in his sentence. She already disliked parties. If a demigod descended, everyone in this tower would be killed…including the sorcerers.

‘The tree’s death alerts the others. I should have expected that from a prison meant to hold someone like this.’

Luna thought deeply of how she could turn this around. If the Mildrith dies and a demigod appears, what could she do about it? Could the sorcerers hold back someone of divine birth?

Her breath quivered but rexed when she remembered something important about divine beings, ‘As long as the concept of bance exists, divine beings can’t just descend as they like. They have to adjust their strength to appear. So maybe…’

Having that in her mind, Luna’s face became calm once more. She made the first step toward Razchar. Then another, and another, and another.

Her steps were as silent as they got, her cold feet touched the bck stone sending sparks through her nerves.

Razchar watched her with a satisfied look on his aging face.

When Luna was within the range of her sword, Razchar knelt down and faced her.

His face wore a gentle and warm expression as he approached his final moments. He had no regrets and just wanted to join his master in the realm of death.

“And by the way, Lunaris, know that you are my decration of war. When you acquire my essence, it will mix with your own and contaminate your soul gate for a while before it merges fully with your soul gate. I advise you not to use it without mastering your own.”

Luna nodded and scoffed from within. ‘I am a decration of war? Hehe…you and Storm really think highly of me.’

As a fire keeper and the inheritor of the Heavenly Supreme’s lineage, Luna had come to partially understand her purpose. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to lead the Feng Cn.

Lunaris’s purpose was much bigger than that. It was decided from the moment her father passed down the special lineage. It wasn’t fate but pure destiny.

She was sure that one day, she would have to face the servant of fate. And when that day comes, Luna would break the curse and she would exist once more.

She still had one final question:

“Are there others? Other qi users?”

“Of course. Both in the divine realm and in yours. Beware of them, that’s all I can say. Because even my truth can’t see them. All you should do is that they're incredibly strong as followers of the True Path.”

There was a sinister smile on his face. He stared at Lunaris as though she was his savior, his heroine, and his dream.

“I see…what a shame.” Luna sighed, and the jian started to hum when she willed some qi into it.

Razchar had let his essence out to give Luna the chance to use her abilities in the mental space.

Razchar stared at her and smiled even more. As her cold, dark eyes swallowed him, Razchar remembered his st conversation with the god of death…..

  ***

“The god of fate has warned us of our deaths. I can’t lie, as the god of death, it scared me…”'

The god of death was anything but terrifying. This might not have been his true form, but he usually took on the form of a gentle young man with a kind face and shabby dark hair.

“Why should you fear your own domain?”

“Because I thought I couldn’t be taken into it. We gods have lived for so long, and the concept of death still feels so alien to us. I didn’t create death, I was simply born from it when the Eternal fme touched a shadow.”

At that time, Razchar looked like a young man in his early twenties with long dark hair and eyes as blue as the sky above them.

  “I see.”

The wind blew over the horizon as they stared at the valley below. There was a magnificent red leafed tree growing in the center, its roots digging deep into the red soul and grass.

Around it, so many magical creatures roamed, feeding on its leaves and roots as though the tree didn’t have the power to siphon life.

Above it, the two suns’ light bathed the world in a radiance that made it look picturesque.

This was the Heavenly realm before the conflict.

“But you know what, Razchar? The age of gods must end for the mortals to grow. The creator had to leave for us to change and grow stronger. This is the price we have to pay for a better future….”

By then, Razchar didn’t understand what he meant. He just killed Atemir and wanted to be a god so badly that he was blinded….

  ***

‘So this is what you meant.’

Razchar thought as he watched the sun god’s sword impale his chest, then through his heart and back.

Since this was only a manifestation of his mind, Luna didn’t expect to see any blood. But to her surprise, the deity was bleeding out a glowing crimson liquid.

However, the blood didn’t spill on the floor. It moved up her sword and attached itself to her hand, and then dissolved into her soul.

‘Lunaris Feng…I finally understand what he meant…’

"Do not search for the Fme of Creation."

  ***

In the depths of the twin rivers...

Lena stood at the bottom of the river, sword in hand, her gray eyes burning with unwavering determination.

Her manifested armor was cracked and dented, evidence of a relentless battle against the leviathan after it had tried and failed to devour her countless times.

Its biggest mistake was to underestimate her abilities, and the price it had paid could be seen on its serpentine body. Its azure scales were torn, and its massive form was riddled with deep wounds.

Lena was an Ascender. Unlike mortals, she could hold her breath for hours. She had mastered combat in every terrain—including the depths of the abyss.

After staring at her for a few minutes, it opened its mouth and unleashed a roar that tore through the water, shaking the riverbed like an earthquake.

Lena barely had time to react as the leviathan charged.

Its serpentine body coiled like a torpedo, surging forward with its jaws wide open, ready to snap her in two.

  SNAP!

Lena vanished, and the beast’s fangs cmped down on nothing but sand, sending a shockwave through the murky depths.

While it was distraught, Lena drew zenshi from her First Gate. The riverbed ignited in a blinding silver light. Energy flooded her bde. And with a single, decisive swing, she unleashed a crescent-shaped bde of light.

  SHHHRRIIIIP!

The zenshi strike sliced through water and flesh alike, tearing through the leviathan’s scales and muscle. Its armor was tough, but Len’s zenshi was at level three mastery. It could break its scales and tear its flesh with less difficulty.

A deep, guttural roar rumbled from the beast as its blood clouded the river.

But still, it was far from finished.

The leviathan's head snapped upward, its slitted eyes glowing with rage once it noticed her position.

  Then—

  Its chest convulsed.

"Crap!" Lena’s breath caught. She felt it before she saw the shift in the current.

Then it happened. A high-pressure beam of water erupted from the leviathan’s throat, tearing through the river like a bullet.

'Too fast!' Lena was quick to throw up a wall of zenshi, silver energy fring around her.

  BAM!

The barrier held for a heartbeat before it shattered, and the pressure attack went straight through.

At the st second, Lena called on her aura, forcing an icy yer around her body. It resisted at first due to the nature of the water, but responded in the final second when the pressure bst struck the center of her armor.

Lena hurtled backward, the sheer force dragging her across the riverbed, carving a deep gouge in the sand.

When she finally stopped, her ice armor y in shards, and her manifested armor—completely destroyed as though it wasn't made of zenshi in the first pce.

However, despite her current situation, Lena tried to maintain her goal. She tried harder to communicate with her second soul gate. Its presence was there, but the water was blocking her Ice Aura. And without it, her strength was equal to a First Gate user.

A deep, raw wound marked her chest where the leviathan’s attack had struck. Her skin was gone, flesh exposed, and blood was everywhere--staining the riverbed red. The pain should have been unbearable.

  Yet—

  Her body fought back.

The zenshi within her worked furiously, knitting her flesh together, healing at a rapid pace.

The leviathan let out another second roar. The river's pressure surged. The crushing force intensified, twisting the very fabric of the abyss. It had realized that taking away her second gate and breathing wasn’t enough to kill her. It resorted to more unique methods.

Lena’s scream tore through her throat, escaping only as bubbles. She couldn’t hold her breath any longer. Her body shook violently as the unrelenting pressure crushed her from all sides.

Blood poured out of her eyes, ears, and nose as the leviathan willed the river’s pressure. Her vision blurred red, the leviathan’s monstrous form twisting into a shapeless nightmare.

Was she going to die here?

  [NO! YOU WILL NOT]

Just then, all the pain she felt stopped when a voice interfered, and the world around froze.

  It was a woman’s voice—gentle and ancient.

With her bloody vision, Lena couldn’t see a thing. But she felt a warm hand touch her chin, followed by a woman’s voice that sent shivers down her spine.

  [YOU WILL WORK FOR NOW!]

Upon hearing this, Lena felt a foreign energy invade her soul. The zenshi in her body was ravaged when a golden radiance poured into her system and awakened something even more powerful.

Her gray eyes turned gold—her hair became completely white, and all the wounds on her body healed instantly to a point where the pressure was useless.

The leviathan sensed the new presence and immediately cowered when it felt a very sinister power. Its form shrank and it swum back. It then rushed to the surface to return to its liquid state. It was smart enough to know that it couldn’t fight this version of Lena in this form and far from the moonlight.

But then, as it was still swimming to the surface, something unexpected happened…

Lena appeared above the water holding her sword with its bde resting on her shoulder. There was a cold sneer on her face as she whispered out words that led space into a shudder.

Suddenly, the leviathan’s body was encased in instant ice.

“Is this what she chose to protect this river?” two voices growled as Lena coldly stared at the beast. “Pathetic.”

With a thought, the frozen leviathan’s body shattered into separate icicles, spreading across the two rivers like a cancer. The ice consumed the silver flora at its banks; the Mildrith itself didn’t survive her ice touch.

“It was already dead.” Two voices echoed when she spoke. She then scanned the battlefield from above with a stern expression.

Right now, a great battle was unfolding in Artemis’s garden. Multiple Rifts were opening up, and armies were marching out of them with steeled expressions born from the love and devotion they had for their leaders.

One side was dressed in silver and blue armor, representing House Feng and their allies, while the other was in dark red, wielding all kinds of weapons—ascenders could not be harmed by normal guns so most of them wielded magical swords, spears, bows. A few held forged weapons that looked like modern day guns but most of them were from Western Settlement.

Once the two groups exchanged looks, magical energies were unleashed and a war began right away. Both sides had received orders from their leaders to push the enemy once they arrived at the final floor.

Not so far away, two sorcerers were already engaged in a tough battle against a giant being made from dirt and trees.

The creature roared and struck at the flying silver-haired woman.

She flew out of the way before its fist reached, then opened her hand and willed a giant ice sword into existence.

Her zenshi fred as she let the bde fall from the sky and plunge itself into the creature’s chest.

Unfortunately, the guardian only staggered backwards, pushing down a few trees with its giant steps. The sword only froze a few parts of its body before it shattered under its pressure.

“Are you sure we can’t use our summons yet?” Astrid asked.

“I can. But not yet,” Mao Feng gritted her teeth and willed more icicles into reality. She was surrounded by a ghostly cold presence as she used her fourth gate to command the world and push back this Emperor-level threat.

These creatures had only appeared after they arrived, meaning that someone was already prepared for their arrival. But in a pce as big as a rge-scale isnd, it was impossible to tell who, especially in the chaos unfolding right now.

All the sorcerers were now engaged in a full-scale battle against the monsters protecting this floor—each one had the strength of an emperor.

  “Now what?”

“Watch my back and let me finish this fight.”

  “And lord Artemis?”

“Hold him back!” Mao Feng yelled as the earth being started to move again. Its ghostly green eyes glowed like two stars—bleeding out an ocean’s worth of killing intent. She could feel its divinity and an unfamiliar power surging through every grain of soil.

Its steps left a mark on the ground. The trees surrendered to the giant's weight as it moved.

It willed the trees on its body, and roots shot out of its body. They all unched themselves at Mao Feng, who blocked them with an ice wall.

She flew toward it and willed an ice hand that grabbed hold of its other roots and ripped them out.

At the same time, thirty meter long ice spikes grew out of the ground pierced the earth beast like swords.

The beast roared in pain as the white zenshi from her ice spread and collided with its natural essence. The collision of the two energies was fatal--the injured arm turned to stone and broke off the creature’s body.

This is what happened when zenshi collided with natural essence. They destroy each other and detonate the being housing both.

This being wasn’t born to fight against zenshi masters.

This was going to be an easy fight indeed.
