Time to study

Luna started meditating again, but this time she was more careful. She tried concentrating on only a little bit of catna. It was more difficult than she thought and she had to give up after a while.

Currently she definitely didn't have the necessary knowledge to safely study catna. Not to mention she was slowly getting hungry which made it difficult for her to concentrate. With a sigh that sounded more like a meow she started looking for food.

She hoped this forest would have small mice, birds or fish. She would have a really hard time if it didn't. With that in mind she continued sneaking through the forest, keeping her senses sharp to pick up on any possible prey. She was also careful to avoid any larger animals.

She didn't want to get into any life and death fights. After a while she finally started hearing something, it was a bird chirping, and from the sound of it it wasn't a bird the sound of a house, just a normal bird. She slowly approached the bird, which was currently busy looking for food on the ground.

Before the bird could even react she pounced on it and gave one precise lethal bite. But as the bird died it chirped one last time, but this time it was different. Luna could feel catna reacting to the chirp, before she could react she felt wind brush her hair and an transparent blade like construct struck a tree behind her.

Luckily the bird was too weak to aim properly otherwise this attack would have killed her. Luna looked scared at the Tree, but the tree looked completely fine, even though she was sure that that attack rivaled guns from her own home world. But tree's in this world seem to be a lot tougher.

She started studying the now dead bird and discovered rune like symbols on its feathers. She understood now, some magic shows use runes for magic. This meant that theoretically she should be able to replicate what the bird did if she memorized all the runes. But here comes the issue, by now she was really hungry and she wasn't sure if she was in the right mindspace to memorize runes.

So with that in mind she quickly started copying the runes on the ground. This is also when she noticed the earth felt tougher than the earth from her home world. With the effort it took her to carve a few runes into the ground she could have dug an entire hole in her home world.

This really showed her how weird this world was, it wasn't just the catna but even basic things like earth and trees were different. The trees were gigantic and seemed to be tougher than Steel, she really felt like it was impossible for such a world to exist. But she didn't understand catna very well yet, maybe catna just made the impossible possible.

Once she finished carving she started eating. And after she was full she was finally in the right mindspace to study the runes. If her guess was right the runes should work like commands. But she hoped that this wasn't the only magic system in this world. Cause there were at least 50 runes, this was just for something basic like an air blade, wouldn't complicated spells need tens of thousands of runes?

This would make setting up spells mid battle impossible. But now it was time to actually try the runes. She meditated again but this time instead of concentrating on connecting to the catna she concentrated on guiding the catna to the runes on the ground.

The runes slowly started lighting up and a transparent air blade started forming. Luna started concentrating on shooting the air blade against a tree and it really happened, the air blade struck the tree and like last time the tree came out as the winner.

But it meant progress in magic, she finally made progress. Magic still wasn't as epic as she hoped for, to her it felt more what those humans called Programming. Like using a program to give catna instructions. Which she really wasn't a fan of, she would have preferred some instantaneous power up.

But it gave her one advantage, if other animals in the forest have runes on their fur then she could memorize them from afar and learn a lot of spells. Luckily she was a cat, memorizing so many things should be impossible for any other species. But she was a mighty cat, she would soon learn lots of spells.

Though the question of how animals had complicated magic programs on their fur still needs answering. But at the moment she had no answers for all this. But cats got created from the hair of the divine cat, so maybe this world was visited by a divine computer. She imagined a giant flying computer that travels through space and decided that this was definitely not the answer, the universe can't be that silly.

She started memorizing all runes while agonizing about having to study, it reminded her of cat school. The place every cat has to visit, just for most of them to infiltrate human homes and get taken care of for the rest of their life's. But cat society was adamant every cat had to know cat history, learn how to manipulate humans, and learn to be sneaky.

Maybe runes would be added into future cat school classes. Which would definitely make many young cats unhappy. But they could only experience the struggle of learning runes if Luna was successful here. So with this in mind she started giving her best.
