After completing the trade, Bastian gave Rai proof of the completed quest. Rai received it and said
“So, the boar request… Is it a frequent request?” Rai asked with a note of curiosity; he wanted to know because it was a perfect quest for him. Not only can he sketch his body, but if it does not get rusty, he can even get a reward for that.
Bastian looked at Rai; his eyes looked questioning as he wondered why this boy asked such an obvious question.
“Of course it is; the lesser boar is a main source of meat because you can find it in every forest you visit. If we did not hunt it regularly, their number would explode, making them leave their original place and start ravaging the farmer's field.”
Rai nods in understanding. He finally knew why back then Cain always hunted lesser boar like almost every week, even though he did not look like he was particularly fond of boar meat. It was to control the lesser boar population.
While Rai was lost in thought, Bastian turned around and prepared to start his work, but before that, he wanted to finish the transaction with Rai first.
“Boy, give me your Adventure card.” Bastian asked Rai to give him his adventure card.
Once again, Rai stared at Bastian in confusion, wondering why he wanted his card. Did he want to see his full name? That doesn't seem to be his goal, though.
Rai shrugged, not wanting to question much about it, and started to rummage through his belongings. Rai fetched his adventure card and gave it to Bastian.
Bastian receives the card and takes out his own adventure card. Rai curiously stared at Bastian. He wanted to know what he will do with his adventure card.
Bastain placed his adventure card against Rai’s, and both cards started to shine a little before dimming out shortly.
Satisfied Bastian nodded and said, “Here you go, boy. I gave you 520 points: 250 from the red jaguar, 120 from the lesser boar, 90 from the horned rabbit, and 60 from the horned rabbit without the horn.
Rai looked at his adventure card. It doesn’t change, and he definitely did not see where his points went. He wondered why the card shone for no apparent reason.
If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Rai observes his card carefully; if the front didn’t change, then it must be the front. Rai flipped his card, and sure enough, it showed him his points.
His total points are 1,020. He raised his head and looked at Bastian, wondering if he was just giving him almost double of what he said he gave.
“Hey, old man. Did you become senile enough to give me double the amount?” Rai said, looking quite confused.
“Huh, first. I am not old enough to be senile, Bastian twitched his mouth. His temple throbbed. He really wanted to beat this guy silly for calling him a senile.
“Then what is this then?” Rai showed him the back of his card, his points still written as 1,020 points.
Bastian looked at it and said, “What’s wrong with it? I don’t see anything weird. You had 500 points; add 520. I gave you the amounts, which are 1,020, which is what is shown on your card.
“Huh?”
“Do you know how to count?” Bastian said as he mocked Rai in repayment for his earlier insult.
Rai ignored Bastian. His head was trying to process all of the information he gained. If what he said is true, then it means he had five hundred points before. But where did he obtain it? Rai thinks and thinks, but no matter what he speculates, it only remains as a speculation in the end.
What really mattered was that he had bonus points and should be happy with it rather than questioning everything.
Rai pocketed his card. He said goodbye to Bastian and left. He wanted to go to the library because of what Bastian said. He really lacks too much knowledge about adventuring. The handbook that he borrowed is not enough, as it only covered the basics. Speaking of the handbook, it is still placed neatly on his desk at the inn. Rai forgot to return it and only just remembered it.
Well, it can’t be helped, I guess. I apologize in my mind to the girl who borrowed the book from me. I promise if I have the time, I will return it. Finishing making a promise in his mind, Rai tried to remember which way to the library.
It was easy to navigate if there was a sign telling you where to go. Adventure Academy knows this as well, which is why they placed the sign all around the place on the upper part of the building. The only reason I did not notice is because I was still new; at least it was what I would tell if people asked me why I was in the opposite direction of the place I wanted to go.
This is a different challenge than what I used to face in the forest. The green surroundings of the forest make you have a hard time telling which direction you are heading. But as a person taught by a seasoned hunter, I knew where to look when I wandered around the forest. I also have a good sense thanks to the potion Cain force-fed me.
But it was different here; it was true I was new here, making me feel unfamiliar with the place. The sign that I just saw is only giving me a little help, as it just showed the place near here. I did not see the sign for the library.
Thankfully, I met with the academy staff. He guided me to the library. I observe the route, trying to remember the route leading to the library. It was a dizzying journey as the kind academy staff guided me on the long corridor that looked almost the same. I was wondering if there was a student like me who got lost. It was probably a lot.
After a long, harrowing journey, the academy staff came to a stop. He pointed at a room; I looked at it and realized I finally arrived at the library.
