Chapter 11: THE WISDOM OF FAMILIARITY

After their varied and eventful journey through the infinite vastness of the cosmos Artemis and Helios landed on a planet with vast red-flowering meadows. In the distance, tall mountains rose majestically into the sky, while the color of the ground gradually shifted from a pale yellow to a vibrant green. The grasses shimmered in the sunlight, forming a soft carpet covering the landscape. When the wind rustled through the blades, a faint whistling sound filled the air, as if the meadow itself were playing a tune.

As the two friends explored the landscape, breathing in the sweet scent of the flowers, they discovered a blue, turtle-like creature. It was sitting leisurely on a warm rock, listening to the soothing melody of nature and seemed to be observing its surroundings with the same curious interest as the two friends. It was a Trelut, whose gentle smile and large eyes immediately evoked a sense of familiarity in them. They both felt as though they had recovered a bit of home.

The Trelut greeted them warmly. “Have you lost something? Can I help you?”

Artemis introduced Helios and herself, then replied, “We haven’t lost anything, but in a way, we’re searching for something. We want to understand what makes life special for others. Have you ever thought about that?”

The Trelut looked up thoughtfully, pursed its lips, and whistled in harmony with the song of the meadow. Then, in a calm voice, it said, “To me, life consists of experiences I cherish, like time spent with my family and friends. But I also find contentment and joy in quiet moments, like the stillness of dawn. There’s always something to discover. But true happiness, for me, lies in appreciating what is already part of my life and treasuring what I have experienced. After all, nothing lasts forever.”

The turtle and the Linea remembered the loving moments with their friends and families, which meant so much to them. Artemis said quietly, “Sometimes you only appreciate something once you miss it.”

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

The Trelut nodded understandingly. “That’s true; that’s why I try to enjoy every moment by being mindful of the small things around me.”

It looked off to the side. “I know a magical place you might like to visit.” Then it pointed in the direction it was looking. “Follow the red meadow until you reach a river. I always enjoy spending time there.”

Artemis and Helios thanked the Trelut warmly and set off towards the river.

When they reached the riverbank, they found not only a waterfall but also many tiny details that this world had to offer. Round insects buzzed about, changing colors whenever they landed, while near-transparent fish swam bravely against the current in the burbling water. From their vantage point, they could see vast meadows and majestic mountains in the distance. It was a peaceful sight that caused the two friends to pause in silent appreciation.

They listened to the melody of the wind as it brushed through the blades of grass, while Helios reflected on all they had experienced on their journey. “Now I see that we are all far more deeply connected than it would seem. Like a subterranean network that connects everything. We don’t just stand side by side; we depend on each other. We learn not only for ourselves but also for one another.” As he spoke, his eyes reflected the warm sunlight.

Artemis let his words sink in. A deep sense of contentment rose within her. With a smile, she looked at her friend. “At the beginning, I was unsure. I didn’t know what to expect. But now, I feel braver and wiser than ever. I’ve learned that life is full of surprises and that it’s important to stay curious. Every being, large or small, has something valuable to contribute. We can all learn from each other, and every encounter can enrich us.”

Helios nodded. “This journey has helped me see life through different eyes. But not only that, it has also given me a very special friend.” He paused for a moment. “I’m very glad that we met.”

“So am I. And I am certain that it wouldn’t have been the same without you,” Artemis replied, her eyes a-twinkle.

After a moment of quiet connection, the two continued exploring the planet, happily reminiscing about their adventures, before eventually making their way back to their spaceship.

Fine cracks appeared on the Kensho stone—a sign that happiness was often thought to be far away, when perhaps it had been waiting to be discovered close by. Soon, their accumulated insights would reveal a wondrous secret.
