Tiananmen square massacre, 1989. The army of the People's Republic of China kills students and civilians in a violent uprising against their leaders.
The Beijing government had been increasingly oppressive for years, but the students who took over Tiananmen Square were not like any other rebellion.
It has repeated in 2023.
In the first year, they just want to end one-party rule. The Communist party was already losing control. They are not like student demonstrators in the West.
Young Chinese that were devastated by Covid lockdowns and economic downturns have become angry. What is worse, they found out that the new leader Xi Jinping was also an evil man.
By 2022, Xi Jinping became dictator of China. He was elected into third term as president without opposition.
However, there was a small group of people who opposed him from the beginning. By 2023, this resistance movement grew so big that it threatened the stability of their country.
At first, it was a Bannerman. He put out the slogan 'Down with Xi Jinping' on the bridge, and was arrested immediately. In the second year, he became a hero. His supporters organized themselves, and held protests all around China.
From then on, the Chinese government repressed it violently. They did everything in their hands, from censoring information to killing protesters. But it didn't stop the movement. In fact, it spread even more. The thought of the people's freedom and dignity was too strong to be stopped.
This time, it was the soldiers of the People's Liberation Army who killed the protesters. A few thousand soldiers attacked the peaceful demonstrators. Hundreds of them died in the streets. Those who lived, they put under arrest.
There were rumors that many of the injured protesters were not treated properly. Many of them disappeared after being hospitalized.
Some say that those who survived were tortured, while some say they were executed right away.
The international community reacted strongly to the violence. There was a huge uproar on social media. The United Nations passed a resolution condemning Xi Jinping for human rights abuses.
But Xi Jinping remained firm. He said: "Our people will never forget what we have gone through."
Many countries started to pull back their investments and exports. China became isoted from the world.
They tried to find solutions, but ultimately failed.
China was desperate, but there were no other options left. Go to war with Taiwan, and risk another cold war? Or let Xi Jinping stay in power until he dies? If they could kill him before then, that would be great.
That was when they decided to invade Canada.
