Watchmaker (1)

“Welcome! Today our news station has a special interview with the main develop of World Start Online! That main developer going by the alias of Yellow has been a long time contributor to the world has given us the special opportunity to interview him!”

In a radio room had been two characters. A news woman in a black suit and tie, and an interesting particular blonde man with a sword by his waist. He had an interesting unserious look on his place. Indicative of his overly playful character.

“It’s my first time being on something like this but so far I am enjoying being here especially considering the fact that you station is so courteous.”

“The first question that we would like to ask you is why is your alias Yellow? It’s a popular question that the commentators of our stream have been dying to know.”

“It’s Yellow because I have yellow hair. That’s it but I go by an alias because I don’t want people to know who I am since I want to have a division between personal and real world affairs.”

“That’s something that I can understand but another question that I would like to ask you is how did you get involved in the development of World Start Online?”

“Well. I was searching the job forums for some sort of freelancing roles for a programmer and the company for World Start Online appeared and I applied. It’s still surprising that I managed to acquire the job considering he prestigious reputation of their corporation.”

“What would you say is your most favorite part of developing the game?”

“My most favorite part of developing the game would have to be the characters. They make the world feel alive…”

‘Ugh… Why am I even here…. Right the boss told me to come here to this boring radio station interview but they should have sent someone else like his daughter or something for a media appearance after all I have some better things that I could be doing instead of rotting at this interview…’

A look of displeasure came over my face as the woman continued to ask questions and I replied to them. My boredom ever rising until a particular question came up.

“If you don’t mind sharing what does the end game content for World Start Online look like?”

“The end game content you say? Currently we have not formulated an idea of what end game content looks like even though we have years of development placed into the game before it’s recent launch, there are some ideas that we have plan. In particular, an ending created by the players.”

“So do you mean that players will be given the opportunity to develop the story in whatever way they want to develop it in?”

‘Yes that is literally what I am saying to you stupid bitch…’

I wanted to scream but I had to remind myself to be professional. After all if I were to flip out, I might as well be fired by the big boss.

  “Of course.”

I said with a fake ass hell devious smile.

“As a developer of World Start Online I would be interested in giving players a real chance and opportunity to transform the world in ways that other games can’t and to make the real world seem real like it is a part of you that you have been missing out on for so long.”

  —

  “Fuck. I need a coffee.”

“That was only a fifteen minutes interview and you are already tired? I expected more out of Yellow who spent dozens of days back to back without any sleep to be more resilient when it comes to issues like this.”

A look of pure disdain came over my face as the boss’s daughter. A beauty with shoulder length black hair spoke to me. Just like always she also had a sword by her waist as the record of our master.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

“Say whatever you want, Sera but I am really uninterested in your teasing. And if you really want to tease someone do it to one of your simps. The guy one and the lesbian with a foot fetish would want to be teased and you would get more of a sick from them then you would get out of me.”

She looked at me with a displeased look as she walked up to me and pulled me by my tie.

“Do I have to file an assault charge on the boss’s daughter?”

  I chuckled.

“If you sue me, I would win by default due to my family's lawyers but if I wanted to assault you, you would have been beaten brutally.”

  “Yeah whatever.”

I said as I reached out for the coffee making machine while browsing my phone. My eyes widened in shock as I read what it had said. A devious smile coming over my face as I read what the notification has said.

“The hell is that look? You look like you are going to molest little girls.”

The smile immediately left my face after that rude comment.

“Apparently someone had managed to activate the Hell Mode difficulty of the game and managed to defeat it and that was in the tutorial.”

“The tutorial huh? Was there really a secret area in the tutorial tower?”

  I whistled.

“I am not entitled to tell you any secrets even if you have money to bribe me and I am a man of integrity so no amount of money would be able to br-”

  “5 million dollars.”

  “Fuck.”

I came onto my knees and barked like a dog.

“Ask and I will tell you whatever you want to know!”

“So what was in the tutorial tower?”

“The tutorial tower has two NPCs with a long history spent together and one of them has been infected by the Eldritch while the other one has been slowly losing her power over time to suppress her infection.”

“I didn’t know that we had Lovecraftian elements in the game?”

“It’s not exactly a game you know?”

  “You mean…?”

“It’s a franchise! We even have an anime for it! We have mangas and comics all about World Start Online so it’s more than a game!”

‘Hopefully she hasn’t been capable of catching on to that.’

“Well whatever you say weirdo. But why is my dad having you work on the game rather than doing something more productive like dealing with the mafia lords?”

“The Mafia lords? You want me to fight them? Or does the big boss want me to fight them? If it’s your father I will bounce right into battle but if it’s you, I am going to help them fight you.”

“I am only saying this as a hypothetical but if I were to fight off against a Mafia Lord, do you think I would win?”

“It depends on which one but if you are against any ordinary one you should be capable of winning but I didn’t know that you are interested in fighting again. I thought you would have retired from that path of life but it’s nice to see you coming back to the blade like I always knew that you would.”

“You talk a lot. No wonder why you are having less secret friends nowadays because you must be boring them to death with how much exposition you give them but now that we are done talking could you stop blocking the coffee machine.”

I nodded and began to walk out of the way. That was until, I remembered something and stood back in the place of the coffee machine. With a smug look on my face, I asked.

“When can I receive my 5 million?”

“Whenever I feel like it… But just tell me if you find someone to become my seventh teammate.”

“So the rumors were true, you were trying to make someone into your own secret friends? But unlike me, your friends aren’t even a secret but a public spectacle after all they are associated with your guild. But what if I came with a talent that you want and I made them into my secret friend?”

“Then that’s alright. If the two of us have our eyes on someone incredible like that then it would mean that they would have a lot of potential and we should do our best to keep them under our control and develop them to their very best.”

“You do have a point but it looks like we are going to have to continue being business partners for a little longer.”

  —

  “So this is the town…”

Raelia thought to herself as she walked into the village and began to walk around with the many people of the village starting at her in confusion. Both NPCs and Players look at her with long drawn stares of confusion. It was natural for the others to stare at her for so long because her character design doesn’t make all that much sense.

Cat-like ears on the top of her head. That’s one thing. But elf ears on the side of her head. Huh? Two sets of ears?

"Are one of those ears a cosmetic item?”

“Maybe they aren’t after all her cat ears are swaying in the wind.”

“No you idiot, if it means that her cat ears are swaying in the wind that means that her elf ears are not real.”

“Well her elf ears are twitching in irritation just as she is watching us talk about her ears.”

Raelia chuckled after hearing that very last comment as the crimson flare in her eyes began to fade away. It was wrong to get angry in town considering the fact that no one had done anything really wrong to her. And besides curiosity was in no way a crime after all if you see someone interesting, the first instinct of yours is to ask a question and seek out the truth. That was the people did with the mysterious elf-cat.

“Ahem. Excuse me, it’s rude to stare.”

Ciel said as she walked in front of Raelia and in her hands hand manifested her long metal spear. Some of the players and NPCs immediately turned around in fear after seeing it while some others were amazed by her. After all she was pretty and looked pretty cool. It was like she was some sort of NPC that would give you unique quests and items and skills and classes if you raised favorability with her.

“Hey why are these people bowing at my feet?”

“Madam deer antlers, your feet are beautiful may I lick them to make you feel superior in life?”

This so called Madam Deer Antlers kicked that damn pervert who asked something irresponsible with her feet. With a mad flush across her face, Ciel sighed before staring at the rest of the bowing people.

  “And what about you guys?”

“Please do the same for me!”

With nothing but anger in her heart and pent up stress that she sought to burn away after the death of the person that she cared about move, Ciel kicked and beat everyone of the bowing simps to the side until there was eventually none of them bowing.

“Woah I didn’t know that Ciel would be capable of beating up this many people.”

Sparkle commented with a look of shock before an odd thought came across her face. A look of disgust following shortly after.

‘I hope that no other weirdos try liking me since I am only here for my master!’

“It’s kind of to be expected that she would be this strong after all she was the one bailing us out during that fight and besides if not for her, we wouldn’t have beaten the tutorial.”

  “Well that’s true…”

Sparkle said with an awkward expression as she remembered that she did technically make the boss battle against Mnestia much harder. It was one thing for her as a low level semi-player to not do much but to directly inconvenience the attempts of her party by commenting that the Mnestia would be defeated in her red slime form was something else. After all it resulted in a penalty that led to an increased difficulty level and the boss’s regeneration. Which kind of was overkill for an overleveled boss.

“So now that we are in town what should we do Mr. Guide or should I say Watchmaker?”

The young blonde boy, Watchmaker began to mumble as a look of fear came over his face.

“Well since you are new in town there’s something that you need to do before anything else.”

  End of the chapter…
