‘Mnestia… I’m at the temple now… I don’t know if this is going to do anything but I pray that they will find something to revive you and overcome that foreign corruption embedded in your soul…’
Ciel thought to herself as she stood right outside of the town’s temple. A large marble building which reached for meters into the sky.
Right on her shoulder accompanying her had been Sparkle. While she originally didn’t want to accompany Ciel, she came along with her just to learn more about the essence of the soul after all she was a magic-using fairy. Ciel patted Sparkle’s own head to relieve her own inner worries.
Step descended down from the main gate of the temple. A young priestess with long silver hair and golden eyes walked out of the temple. She yawned to herself, it was pretty early in the day and she had rested for quite a long while. Her eyes widened as she realized the fact of the two of guests and treated them with a smile. And an introduction as well.
“Hello how many I help the two of you today? Oh my! A fairy and a deer-kin!? That’s a set of travelers that I wouldn’t expect to becoming here!”
“I’m surprised that you actually know about my people. It’s rare to see someone who knows about my race.”
Ciel said as Sparkle floated around the front of her head and began to touch her antlers.
‘It’s rough like metal… Maybe she should use it as a weapon or something…’
“Stop playing with it….”
“It’s only natural for us to know about the deer people after all everyone in this region was raised on the legendary history of the ultimate duo of our region Ciel and Mnestia! These two heroes were the strongest of their time and they changed the region forever with their charitable acts and acts of heroism!”
‘Well that’s a bit of an exaggeration. We weren’t the strongest individually but when we were fighting together we were effectively some of the strongest people around. And when it comes to people like weird blonde man, he’s more deserving to be called Ultimate. But I don’t think I was that charitable… And neither was Mnestia since she was too much of a greedy prick.”
An awkward expression came across on Ciel’s face as she began to nervously laugh. A drop of sweat descending on her face as she continued to watch on the unblinking and unflinching face of the young priestess. She had an almost psychopathic look in her eyes like she was someone who would never blink even for dust.
“Well the funny thing is that I am actually named after her so I was kind of in thought for a while.”
Ciel lied before chuckling. Still nervous about the fact that she might have her identity discovered by the young priestess which could further complicate issues here.
“Oh my! That’s amazing! So what should I call you!? Just Ciel or as Ciel junior?”
The priestess said as she neared the uncomfortable deer-girl. A look of displeasure on her face as she wasn’t interested in being teased around like them. And especially considering the fact that she didn’t want to be called a junior to herself.
“Wait Ciel you haven’t explained to her why we are at the temple…”
Sparkle commented and the priestess’s eyes widened. Immediately remembering the fact that dilly-dallying would prevent her from getting her week of pay at the cathedral. She smiled before nodding. Ciel’s tense face growing loose and less irritated with that very word.”
“Please follow me into the premises so that we may sit and talk about what you may be here for today.”
“Thank you Miss Pr-”
“It’s Anastasia.”
“Thank you Miss Anastasia, me and my friend Sparkle are here for a consultation. Specifically to see if the power of the church and divine magic is capable of reviving someone from their soul essence?”
“Soul essence!?”
Anastasia’s eyes widened and her body pressed up against Ciel.
“Um. Yes. I have a soul essence.”

The young priestess’s eyes opened wide in shock as Ciel reached for her sleeve and brought out the soul essence of Mnestia and placed it on the table right before them.
“This soul essence is unlike anything that I’ve ever seen before! It’s like it’s the soul essence of Ciel or Mnestia themselves! Though I hope that none of them have fallen in combat because that would have been so unfortunate to see one of the great heroes of our region join the history books and pass.”
‘Please stop mentioning the past me… It’s embarrassing to just have fans… It’s one thing if my fan is someone like Raelia who I care about am trying to turn into my disciple. But it’s another matter if it’s someone that I have never really gotten to know in my life. Some damn random like this priestess…’
“If you don’t mind asking… I have several questions. Firstly where did you acquire this soul essence? Secondly, who or what was this soul essence from? And thirdly, why do you want this soul essence to be revived?”
“It’s a long story. But I found that soul essence in a nearby dungeon and when I completed it, the structure collapsed. This soul essence was from a giant red slime with a cracked core with a spear piecing into and a deer-girl skeleton right next to it. The giant red slime spoke to me and asked for me to kill it and I did as she asked. But the reason why I want this soul essence to be revived is to understand he-”
“I UNDERSTAND!”
Anastasia said with tears overflowing on her face. Something that crept out and scared Ciel as she didn’t know that her bullshiting story would result in the young girl crying so much and passionately.
“You must have came across the remains of our two heroes and you want to give them a proper respite?”
‘Stop calling us heroes again! You damn woman!’
“Erm… Something like that…”
Ciel could only awkwardly reply.
“If it’s come to this, I think I should help you. After all, I can’t help but let someone in need suffer. Especially if they are a fellow fan of Ciel and Mnestia. As the Saintes- No I mean as a priestess, I will do everything in my power in order to help you.”
‘Wait… Did you just say that you are the Saintess…’
“Um… What’s with that stare…?”
“You mentioned the Saintess earlier and I take it that you must be a fan of her?”
“Um. Yeah….”
‘Why the heck is she asking about my true identity! Fuck! Why did I even come to this town on a whim! I should have just stayed in the papal sanctuary!’
‘It’s nice seeing a bastard like you having that same sort of uncomfortable look on your face. Here goes for some cosmic karma for not having your true identity be realized by someone that you don’t like!’
“Hey why are the two of you so silent…”
Anastasia turned to face Sparkle.
‘Her pixie friend is pretty cute now that I am thinking about it… But something that I am kind of curious about myself is the existence of some mysterious Elat. Is that some sort of food? A drink? A snack? A dairy? Or is it some sort of magic? Some sort of spell or something like that?…’
Anastasia turned to stare at Ciel and grabbed her by the chin just like Mnestia used to do.
“Hey what was that for!?”
Sparkle said as Ciel couldn’t even say anything.
‘She kind of does look like the real thing Ciel.’
‘What are you trying to do!? Are you some sort of twisted and sick reincarnation of Mnestia trying to torture me for trying to revive her!?’
“I see. You look hungry.”
“I do?”
“Yeah. You look like someone who has eaten rats for the last 500 years.”
‘Well that kind of did happen while I was trapped in the tower… And it was because there wasn’t really much that I could have eaten in the tower considering how barren it was and I wasn’t going to eat zombies or skeletons or anything like that… But I seriously miss normal food…’
Ciel’s face suddenly turned sad.
“Did I remind you of something unpleasant? If so I apologize because I should have thought of ahead and done my best to try and not upset your feelings or anything. It would be rude for me to bring up some past scars in your life so I truly mean it.”
“It’s not something hat you should apologize for after all you can’t always know or expect what someone had gone through in life so naturally there are some things you are going to be shocked about when you learn about it.”
‘These two are kind of similar… I wouldn’t really like to say it but if Mnestia were here she would be teasing the two of them as door-mats and I would see why she would make the comment after all these two just keep apologizing for each other… It’s kind of annoying and I understand why Mnestia kept teasing Ciel about it.’
The door-mats continued to talk amongst themselves and Ciel sighed before looking out of a window and staring out into the wind.
‘I wonder what Raelia is doing at this time.’
—
Raelia turned over onto the side and stared at a mushroom. It was a brown mushroom.
“What is this mushroom?”
“That’s a brown forest mushroom and that’s one of the mushrooms for my harvesting quests nya!”
“Oh that’s nice. We should try and make a list of everything that we should try to find and if one of us sees one of the the items we can tell the other person to pick up for their quests.”
“Agreed nya. But what if it’s a plant that we are both going after nya?”
“Well I guess we could play rock paper scissors to see who claims the material.”
“That works and has anyone told you that you are a pretty good girl nya?”
“What do you mean by that nya?”
Raelia tilted her head in confusion.
“I mean has anyone called you a good person lately?”
“I don’t think anyone did but if you want to you might as well start now.”
“You’ve been a good friend nya… And I want to make things up to you by being more than just friends nya…”
“What do you mean by that?”
Raelia said with an innocent yet confused look.
“Join my guild nya!”
All the mysterious tension around Lilith vanished. Thankfully the genre did not change.
“I could but the more you talk to me about joining your guild, I want to join it less to be honest. But to be kind, I could offer being a partner of your guild if I decide to start my own or something?”
“That’s an excellent idea nya! Let’s become partners of life nya!”
“I don’t even know you in real life and we aren’t even added as friends in this game…”
“Let me fix that nya…”
[Lilith Nyanelle has sent you a friend request]
[Accept] [Decline]
Raelia acceptd on the accept option and a smile came across Lilith’s face.
“You look so happy right now nya. It’s just like you got paid with how happy you are nya!”
“I don’t really get paid at my job…”
Well calling it a job was way too loose of a term. Since in truth all that Raelia does for a living really is doing contract work for the Rogue’s Association and steal… So that really wasn’t something that could be employment.
“Well I do get paid at my job and it’s a pretty well paying job but it’s kind of boring nya. But talking to you kind of makes me feel sorry for you nya. Do you want me to pay you in real life nya? Just give me your bank account and I will be sure that the money comes into your account. It will be like an instant transfer of money without having to visit you in real life nya!”
“Huh? You could do such a thing?!”
Raelia asked in a tone of being shocked about the fact that people could directly transfer money to each other without making use of physical means.
“Of course nya! I would be willing to support my friends regardless of their circumstances and besides my life is way too boring to just live for myself so I am going to live for myself and my friends nya!”
“That’s cute. You could try open up a nursery or daycare for run-away cats left alone by the world.”
Lilith stared at me with a long passionate deep held gaze. It wasn’t like what Mnestia did because at least with Lilith I understood it. I understood her and she understood me and my will for her to live a purposeful life that she could live for herself.
End of the chapter.
