Prelude (3)

World Start Online is a game that primarily advertises itself as a video game devoted to fantasy and adventure. The time of game where you expect to fight dragons and other fearsome beasts and that is a part of the game but more fundamentally, this game is like a world. Just like there are people who spend every part of their lives risking it to for the sake of others, there are people who contribute to society in order to ensure the well being of society and their own.

Those who work their laborious duties for ht progression of society are people that are often not given fair credit as where it is due to the fpure mundanity of their role but it is still something that should be recognized. After all, without the inn-keepers running inns to create a lively environment and hearty home away from home for traveling adventurers, many adventures may never even begin.

Without the merchant that we may consider as greedy and short-sighted, goods wouldn’t be flowing across the continent meaning that the slime jelly that you just farmed over the course of several hours can’t be sold off for that profit to be reinvested into your gear and living expenses.

Without the perfectionist and often moody craftsmen of the world, we wouldn’t have any swords and shields to fight off against powerful creatures. Heck, humanity would have been wiped out in a dangerous world like this if it were not for their brave sacrifice.

“So what is your point, you old geezer! Stop telling me this story! Skip! Skip! Skip!”

A young woman sighed as she pushed an elderly man to the ground after being frustrated about the fact that he took too long to narrate the quest. Everyone around her both players and NPCs stared at her with disgusted looks.

How could have someone do that?

  Ugh. How disgusting..

With all these new people who came out of nowhere there is going to be an explosion in crime!

Town was just terrible with all the runaway orphans jacking my stuff but with these new people here, it’s going to be something else entirely.

Thankfully all of this controversy was taking place in a different kingdom separate from the Kingdom of Alanzia. Specifically with this controversy taking place in the Republic of Cornelis. A nation which might seem modern and democratic because of its name but it truth while it is a representative government of sorts, as it exclusively panders to the rich and wealthy.

  —

“This soul essence is really something else…”

Anastasia commented to herself as she stared at in her own room. While the other guests were still around in the temple, on her special request she asked if it was possible for her to the soul essence to her room. Something that they agreed to after much debated discussion.

“That Ciel girl is pretty clingy when it comes to this… It was like she was the real Ciel and this was the real Mnestia and that the two of them were never goign to let each other.”

‘Such cringy things honestly belong in stories…’

Anastasia thought to herself with a smug expression coming over her face.

“I’ll just revive you and I’ll just call it a day and go to sleep for a bit. Alright.”

Anastasia sighed as she reached out for her luxurious mithril staff and pointed it straight towards the Soul Essence.

  “True Revive!”

A glowing golden light enveloped the table and the room causing Anastasia to cover and squint her eyes due to how bright it was. Supririsngly doing something like that took a lot of her energy. Something that could have left her exhausted and falling down at any moment.

  “Wow your chest is huge…”

Someone’s voice spoke through the dust cloud of magic energy, immediately grabbing Anastasia’s face by the chin. Anastasia’s eyes opened slightly in confusion and shock at the fact that there was someone bold enough and willing to grab her face, that of a saint with such impunity. If the church or well any of her fanfaatical fans were to see what was happening right before her, they would have called for a lynching.

But rather than anger, what Anastasia felt was embarrassment.

“Hey! Why are you naked! And stop grabbing my chin, you damn per-”

The red haired girl continued to grab at her chin and her mouth causing her great uncomfortability which just caused her to shut her mouth.

  “So what is this place?”

  “It’s a temple.”

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

“A temple? Why am I at a temple?”

“Um… One of your friends took you over to this temple in order to revive you from your soul essence.”

“And you are a church worker?”

  “Yeah… I am…”

“I don’t know if that’s true with how sinful of a body you have…”

Anastasia immediately blushed and covered up her already covered up by clothes chest. Moving further from the menace. But flying right above her head had been the door of the room as someone with green hair came running in.

  "Mnestia!”

“Hey. Ciel why the hell is a door-mat like you doing property damage all of the sudden?”

“Property damage!? Fuck off! The first thing that you really want to say to me after you’ve been revived is something rude? Should I have just left you as a Soul Essence and should I have used you myself?”

“Hey! If you wanna swear in front of me! Then I can show you swearing and I can call you a fucking bitch and I can throw you across the room and at the same time I could show you an entirely new world of pain that you never thought had ever existed with these fingers of mine…”

Mnestia chuckled as she grabbed Ciel right by the chin and gripped it hard. Ciel nervously chuckled as she was being gripped once more. But things kind of felt odd to her. Her once tight tiger like grip wasn’t really tight anymore.

  “What happened to your hands?”

  Mnestia looked at her hands.

“It’s normal? What the heck do you mean? Go look at your hands if you want to look at someone’s damn hands!?”

  “Um…”

Anastasia tried to speak as the two girls began bickering like children. Or more like siblings. But she knew that they wouldn’t listen to her plus it would be rude to get into and interrupt something good like this sso she remained quiet on the side. Letting the two play it out.

‘Although I really doubt the authenticity of it, eye-witness reports of Ciel and Mnestia’s behavior described them like bickering children and it’s kind of like what I am seeing now. But there’s no way in hell that these two morons are the real thing. After all, who would even manage to kill Mnestia?’

“Hey since we are already here, shouldn’t you get a health inspection or something? Miss door-mat.”

“Hey stop calling me a door-mat! You literally say that every time you say something!”

  “Door-mat doesn’t like being called a door-mat. It’s a sad day for door-mat fans and friends everywhere.”

Mnestia commented with a somewhat sad but sarcastic look on her face.

“Shut up. I wish I could find some way to shut you up without feeding you food at all..”

“There’s something that you could do but I don’t think that you would want to do it.”

  "What is i-”

“A kiss. If you kiss me, then I can’t talk at all.”

“HELL NO! I AM NOT GOING TO BE DOING THAT WITH YOU! Do you really want to go back to the days where I beat up an entire street of people that think that we are gay?”

‘Historical accounts of Ciel and Mnestia called them gay but those two would beat up the people who called them gay.’

  “So…”

“Door-mat you can either do it or not. But I’m only just teasing but where are the weaklings that you are training?”

“I think Sparkle the fairy ran away because she is afraid of you were beating up her friend pretty badly and I don’t think she would want to get on your bad side anymore after that.”

“That does make sense since while I was in that corrupted state, I was a little sadistic. A little more than I am usually. But to be honest, people nowadays are babies if they can’t handle a little bit of sadism.”

Mnestia chuckled and turned around to face the Saintess.

“And do you know what this person did?”

  Mnestia pointed at her.

“What did she do? I hope you aren’t antagonizing for no reason or something petty like being jealous of her because she has a far larger chest than you do.”

  “Fuck you caught me.”

Mnestia grabbed Ciel by the chin.

“This is why I always liked you because you were so shar-”

Anastasia slapped Mnestia senseless until she fell onto the ground defeated. Anastasia was huffing and puffing…

‘God please forgive me. I just couldn’t take it…’

Ciel turned to Anastasia with an interested look.

“Normally I would get angry with someone like you for knocking her out like but to be honest, I am kind of grateful for you since she’s not supposed to be acting so rude especially after you did something so important to us. And to be honest, it’s always better to make friends with someone of your stature, that of the great Saintess.”

“Hold on! Hold on! I suck at keeping my secrets but how did you find out!”

“You were the only person in the room when you revived Mnestia from her soul essence and when I mentioned Saintess you always had a guilty secretive look on your face. So I considering two possibilities. One, you were some assassin or some covert with some personal vendetta against the Saintess or secondly more likely you were the Saintess yourself.”

“Aw shucks. Well you’ve found me but please don’t tell anyone that I am here! Especially if they are a priest from the capital because I am just supposed to be a regular priestess here and I don’t want anyone here to destroy my perfectly normal life all on my own.”

“Alright. I will keep this promise that you made with me even though that I may find your terms personally disagreeable, we made a promise to aid one another.”

‘I don’t know what caused someone of her stature, that of the Saintess to run away from the Papal Capital but it seems like there must have been a really big issue. Either that or this Saintess just has a really bad personality so she decided to run here all by herself.’

“Is there anyone else here who knows your secret or is it just me?”

Ciel asked with a curious look.

“Not really after all my hair color kind of changed after I became the Saintess and to be fair, I grew up in this region but in a nearby rural village so I doubt that anyone here would recognize me since I didn’t really grow up much.”

“Did you hair color change naturally or did you go to a sa-”

  “You know about that man..?”

  “Yeah… Unfortunately I do….”

  —

  “Rat soup.”

  “What are you saying nya?”

“Rat soup. That’s what I said.”

“Yeah but why the heck did you say it out of no where nya! It would be one thing if I asked you a question, nya. What is your favorite food and you answered rat soup, nya!”

“Fair point. But I kind of just say random things when I am bored.”

“Well I mean if you are bored then you could just consider talking to other people in order to prevent you from really saying anything stupid plus it’s always better to get to learn and know the people around you.”

‘Yeah you have a point though I don’t really like that schemey type of voice.’

“So what’s the path back to town? And what is this huge tent out here.”

A young blue haired boy? Maybe girl came up to us with an energetic smile.

“Hello, you two! Are you here for the recruiting for our raid on a nearby dungeon? Currently we are looking for people to help us in raiding the dungeon and we are willing to pay you in game and IRL for helping us out.”

  “What’s IR-?”

Raelia’s mouth was immediately shut by Lilith who had a greedy look on her face as this opportunity could make her bank account soar.

  “Shut it nya…”

  Lilith whispered back.

  End of the chapter…

Would rather say door-mat in every sentence or end every sentence with nya
