Chapter 14: Sorcery

  (Xavier Edwards point of view)

Our day concluded without any progress. We returned home with Ren under my arms and Gabrielle on my back.

After I carried them inside the house and placed them on the couch, they both moaned like zombies. Hearing their stomachs growl in hunger, I said, "I will make dinner." the painful growling of their stomach served as the perfect response.

  (Two hours later)

"DINNER IS READY, COME AND GET." The two children rushed downstairs from their bedrooms to the living room table, holding a fork and knife in each hand while chanting, "We want food."

I presented their appetizer, a Greek yogurt Tzatziki with veggie sticks, and their main dish a lemon herb salmon with quinoa and roasted vegetables.

They immediately went feral and ate away. After a short prayer, I followed suit.

After they finished their meal, I noticed their eyes were focused on the dessert I made for us.

Gabriella and Ren had a warm expecting smile, "So are you not going to share?". Gabrielle said with a fake innocent smile while pouting her lip.

Ren was doing the same action as her, "Gotta supply to the hood man." Originally, I was going to ask for a favor but now I am debating whether to share.

After finishing my meal, I stood up with the tray of Berry Chia pudding and approached them, saying, "I will share with you guys for a simple favor."

Both looked at each other and nodded before returning their sight to me, "Sure what's up?" Said Gabrielle

"I need you guys to show me how to use the soulstream. And use sorcery in general." I asked

Ren teleported beside me with his right arm around my neck while he adjusted his glasses, "If that's all then I will show you how it's done-" but knocking him out of the way, Gabrielle confidentially stood in front of me, "Why not learn from a-" but Ren instantly pushed her out of the way.

Then they began fighting yet again.

I was beginning to question why they were even friends in the first place, but I ultimately decided to smile and come up with a solution, "How about this, you both can teach me sorcery while I teach you both individually how to progress in your training task. That way everyone will get what they want." I explained.

They stopped bickering after realizing the solution that I came up with, "Sure that can work." Replied Ren.

  (Ten minutes later)

We have finished our desserts, and we were satisfied.

All three of us were in my bedroom where we could have this whole sorcery discussion.

From my understanding of sorcery, using Gun-wo explanation earlier today.

Sorcery originated from a seed called the veillotus seed. According to the explanation, it was first discovered on a lost Arctic island on Earth. Early humans destroyed the plant while fighting over its healing properties. This conflict led to modern humans being able to become bound, as they carry the seed within them.

Suddenly four people understand the seed's true potential and are known as the elders amongst the sorcerers.

The seed lies within our souls, which are also found in our hearts. The soulstream acts as a connecting network, starting from the soul and extending throughout the body.

He also mentions that our aura represents our potential and morality. A brighter aura is associated with individuals of pure heart, while those with a darker aura are known for having a sinister morality.

That is all I know for now, but these two will explain the rest.

Before coming to my room, Ren had to collect six different books from his room, each with unique symbols and colors.

Ren placed all six books around me as I continued to meditate on the floor, "How do you feel?" He asked

"Not only do I feel tired, but I also feel an irritating feeling within my chest. Am I doing it correctly?" I asked.

"Yes, that irritating feeling in your chest is caused by a hormone being released by the seed to which your body is currently reacting. Focus on the source of your irritation, and when you no longer feel that heavy sensation in your chest, open your eyes." said Gabrielle.

I followed the instructions and felt something expanding inward until it suddenly vanished. When I opened my eyes, I found myself enveloped in a golden aura, "Woah, what now?" I asked

"Relax yourself to turn it off." Gabrielle responded.

I took a deep breath and removed my focus from my chest. The aura disappeared, "Now as you can see, your soul has its unique aura. You must fill the network with that aura inward. Once that is accomplished, you will be to use sorcery." Gabrielle explained.

Fascinating, "And the books?" I asked noticing that Ren had been placing candles around me as well. Each one was behind a book.

Following up, Gabrielle closed my curtains and switched off the lights, "Switch your aura on and Ren will explain what going to happen next." Gabrielle said.

I followed her instructions and once again enveloped my body in my golden aura, "This part is known as rooting. We sorcery hunters employ two types of sorcery techniques that best suit our fighting style. The six categories are elemental, enchantment, transformation, conjuration, controlling, and specialization. To discover your root, you must identify the two candles that burn the brightest. Therefore, examine each candle and use your aura as a guide to find the correct root." he explained.

I followed his instructions and stared at each candle. I noticed the network was beneath me. Some candles nearly reached the network, while others barely made it. However, the two that illuminated the room were the two only candles connected.

Gabrielle went to turn on the lights while Ren picked up two books, "You are a conjurer and an elemental." he said after handing me both books.

"This bizarre ritual determines whether or not I have a Sorcery technique. And what are these books for?" I asked

Ren opened both books, which contained various types of drawings and movement patterns, "The sorcery techniques in these textbooks are the foundation of our training." he explained. "These basic skills and spells are used by everyday sorcerers. Once you learn to channel your aura through your network, you can begin practicing with them."

Following up after Ren's explanation, "But it is not that easy. It usually takes two days within your first day in the academy to unlock your aura. But the filling up your network part takes nearly two weeks of intense focus and concentration." Said Gabrielle while she picked up the candles.

Their explanation was extremely helpful, and I believe that I can practice this later before I go to bed.

After turning off my aura, I got up from the floor and looked at both of them before taking a short bow, "Thank you, I truly appreciate your assistance." I said sincerely.

Judging by how both of them made a unique reaction to my thanks, I can see that they are happy as well.

Gabrielle loudly yawns before heading out of the room, "I'm going to bed. You can teach me how to fight tomorrow."

Gun-wo words echo within my head about a potential punishment, "Should we not be concerned about the punishment?" I asked.

Ren picked all the remaining books and followed Gabrielle while saying, "He was obviously joking with us, no way in hell we would be able to complete those tasks without having some advantage. Let's call it for today and do the whole thing tomorrow."

Looking back, the training for both Gabrielle and Ren seems impossible to do in a single day, especially since one of them is unfit.

"I understand. I look forward to seeing you guys tomorrow and I will be making breakfast this time." I said with a bright smile.

We exchanged our goodbyes, and I was left alone in the room. I leaped into bed and attempted to close my eyes, but I remembered something...

  Hinata.

I typed a quick message saying, "Hey, sorry for not telling you about my mission. I was kinda recovering."

It took a few seconds, but she read the message and instantly replied, "Oh hello. I heard you fought the dollboy and survived. I'm impressed." she ended with a shy cat emoji.

"I barely did anything. I kinda got my ass kicked." I replied with a laughing emoji.

A few seconds later she replied, "It's not every day you face an A-rank monster and still be standing. Regardless of what you say, it is an achievement no one can achieve without being living proof of it."

"You know how to make a man feel better. Are you available for a long night chat?" I replied with an upside-down smile.

In a few minutes, she replied, "Yes I'm basically free at the moment." with a smiling emoji.
