Chapter 4: To Strive for Freedom

  Chapter 4: Striving for Freedom

Thus, Mo Yi'er began the process of learning to speak, and the primitive language was very complex and lawless. But because it was the ancestral language of humanity, Mo Yi'er was still able to grasp it quickly. It was as if it were an instinct, requiring only someone to guide her.

After just one day of studying with Kasa, she was able to have simple conversations with the people in the tribe and also learned to say "water"!

She told the women of the tribe that she needed water to wash up, but the women didn't understand washing up. Water was still something they could comprehend, though. They just wouldn't let Mo Yeer leave, instead using large leaves to fetch water from somewhere and bring it back for her.

Mo Yi'er took it over, didn't say thank you, but only made a hard smile to express her gratitude, the tall woman was a little embarrassed by the smile.

In the embarrassing situation, with a bare upper body and exposed midriff, she just smiled, what's there to be shy about?

In the evening, men returned in droves, many carrying game, although not as large as the wild boar hunted by Wang Ge yesterday. There were wild goats, deer, hares and so on, all of which Mo Yi had only seen in zoos in her previous life.

But all these animals were bloody, with wounds on their bodies that matched the blunt objects and weapons held by the men.

They were said to be weapons, but in fact they were just sturdy wooden clubs with one end sharpened, or a piece of stone resembling a knife. Mo Yi'er thought that this must have been the stone knives of the Stone Age. The men's stone knives were much coarser than the women's and suited the men's broad large hands.

Mo Yu'er didn't know much about history, only that she had crossed over to a very primitive place, where even simple household items like bowls and chopsticks were unavailable.

The women went to meet the men who came back from hunting, just like yesterday. Bangge walked towards the cave in the crowd, his eyes unconsciously searching for the woman he brought back yesterday.

The old man walked out of the cave today as well. The soft evening sunlight made his eyes slightly dazed, as if he was not used to the light.

The old people almost always stay deep in the cave, even during the day, the light is very dim. Today Kasan can come out of the cave, which makes Bango feel particularly unexpected.

Kasa smiled and looked at Fang Ge with affectionate eyes, as if looking at her own child. She spoke to him in a low voice, glancing sideways at Mo Yier.

Mo Yu'er could understand simple conversations, but not the longer ones. She vaguely heard a few words, including her name - Mo Yu'er, although the pronunciation was not very standard, and also "congming" (intelligent). When saying this word, Kasa pointed to his own head. Mo Yu'er thought to herself that Kasa must be telling Fang Ke that he himself is intelligent.

The others had either retired to rest or were busy preparing dinner, and after a while Kasah and Hango ended their conversation. Muyi stood not far away, pretending to be nonchalant, but actually wanting to listen in on what they were saying. However, he could only make out very little of it.

After finishing the conversation, Kasa went back to the cave directly. Bango walked towards Moyier and called out in a not-so-standard accent: "Muyier?"

"Mo Yu Er, Mo...Yu...Er..." Mo Yu Er exaggeratedly mouthed the pronunciation of his own name to Fan Ge. From observation, this Fan Ge seemed to be the small leader of this tribe. To survive, at least he had to curry favor with their big BOSS!

After trying a few times, Bango finally read out the words "Mo Yu Er" accurately, then grinned and showed off his pearly whites to Mo Yu Er. His smile was quite handsome, and against his darkened skin, it seemed even whiter than if he had used Tian Qi. The original wild and savage good looks were very masculine, hmm, after a day of hunting, the smell of sweat and blood wasn't too bad either. But somehow, it didn't make people dislike him. This pure and unpolluted place was much better smelling than those car exhaust fumes.

For this BOSS who had saved her life, Mo Yier still had a good impression of him, but was somewhat dissatisfied with being confined within the mountain cave.

At dinner time, Mo Yuer was wolfing down the almost tasteless roasted meat, completely without any ladylike image. This couldn't be blamed on her, these primitive people actually only ate one meal a day, from this morning till now, she was starving to death.

In this way, after five days, Mo Yi'er drew a "correct" character on the wall corner at the entrance of the cave. She had completely mastered the primitive language of these people and was very excited, thinking that she didn't have such talent when learning foreign languages at first.

Having learned their language, being able to communicate with these people is the happiest thing for Mo Yi'er. She first found her original language mentor, Kasar, and asked: "Kasar, why do they want to keep me under house arrest? Not letting me out?"

I originally wanted to say surveillance or house arrest, but there are no such profound words here, and even if I said them, they wouldn't understand, so I can only use the simplest language to express my own meaning. Hmm, it's a bit tangled!

"Don't worry, Mo Ye'er, they're just thinking of your safety. Outside, there are many powerful beasts... you're very weak!" Kasa's face was filled with a warm smile, and the few days they spent together had let Mo Ye'er know that he was a very kind old man.

The other elderly people were also very quiet and peaceful, so quiet that they seemed to be non-existent, only going out of the cave when nature called. The long period of inactivity made them look very weak, as if they would leave at any time.

However, Mo Yi'er still saw a hint of deep thought in the seemingly benevolent eyes of Kasar. Apparently, this answer was not true, or rather, it was not the whole truth. Was it possible that these primitive people were plotting against themselves?

At this moment, Fan Ge walked in with a hunting return, as if it was a habit. In the past few days, he would come back and talk to Mo Yier for a while.

"Welcome back, what did you hunt today?"

"A deer and a wild boar, not bad at all!" Banggo was an affable man, always with a smile on his face whenever you saw him. As long as there was a harvest, he was satisfied.

"Hmm, it's pretty good!" Mo Yier learned the word "leader" today and asked Fan Ge: "Are you the leader of the tribe?" Although she had already made up her mind, Mo Yier still wanted to confirm.

Unexpectedly, Bango shook his head: "No, I'm not the leader. The leader took a few brave warriors to exchange salt and we're almost out of salt."

Oh! No wonder, the barbecue eaten every day is light and tasteless. Moreover, after eating barbecue for several nights, Mo Yi'er feels that her stomach is not very comfortable. Is it because of irregular meals and too single food, unbalanced nutrition?

"Well, Bango, can I go out of the cave and walk around a bit further away?" Mo Yier asked Bango, her eyes still scanning Kasa.

As expected, there was a hint of abnormality in Kasa and Hango's eyes, and even some tension.

"Can't we?" Mo Yier's face was full of hope, she was also afraid of the wild beasts outside, but she wouldn't go far, or else being watched like this would drive her crazy.

"Where do you want to go? I can accompany you!" Fan Ge finally gave in, he really didn't want to see Mo Yi'er's face, as tender as a newborn baby's, reveal a disappointed expression!
