Chapter Twenty-Two: Re-encountering Pearl
"Captain, I finally know why there were so many M4A1 shell casings in the parking lot." A young man wearing a police uniform said while watching the surveillance video, speaking to a middle-aged man sitting calmly beside him. "That punk called Man Niu is too formidable, can't even hit him like this."
"If this isn't a surveillance route, I would have thought it was a domestically produced sci-fi blockbuster!" the young man exclaimed.
"What's even more terrifying is the person with the gun. In this situation, he remains calm and uses bullets to protect himself within a certain range, forcing his opponent to keep their distance." The middle-aged man said as he clicked on slow motion, pointing at a scene on the screen, "Look here, his bullets are not fired in a panic, but rather the result of precise calculation. Every time his opponent takes a step forward, he locks down their movement and disrupts their rhythm."
"After disrupting the opponent's attacking rhythm several times, he started to attack directly and made the opponent take three shots, fleeing in disarray. However, something is strange here. After the opponent fled, he didn't immediately chase after him, but instead stayed on the spot for a moment before leaving. Then he should have pursued into the pile of debris and killed the opponent." The middle-aged man pointed at the retreating figure of the murderer.
"Captain, I have another question. Where did his gun come from? And the magazine? It's as if they appeared out of thin air. Is it magic?" Another young man finally couldn't help but speak up.
"This issue will be put on hold for now, as I also cannot provide a reasonable explanation. We can only wait for the expert to analyze it. Let's take a look at another video clip!" The middle-aged man shook his head and waved his hand at the person playing the recording.
The recording suddenly changed to another segment, and it ended in just a few seconds, leaving everyone stunned.
"Except for the first shot that missed, he then fired four consecutive shots, three of which were headshots. The other one would have been the same if it hadn't been tripped up." The middle-aged man's eyes were full of shock, "His marksmanship and awareness are comparable to a professional killer!"
"That guy who escaped from behind should be the one whose neck was twisted later, right?" a young man next to him asked.
"That's him!" Another young man nodded.
"The terrifying speed, almost completed the killing of three people in one second, from the first bullet flying out to the third bullet hitting the third person, took less than a second." The middle-aged man exclaimed.
Just as everyone was sighing and muttering, a policeman rushed over hastily, "Captain, just now in XX Park's woods, someone found a male corpse."
"Xiao Zhang, come with me to take a look. The others stay here and see if there are any more clues." The middle-aged man immediately stood up and beckoned to a young man beside him, and the two followed the police officer who had just left in a hurry.
"The deceased had a fierce struggle with someone before his death, and the left chest seemed to have been penetrated by something heavy, almost reaching the heart. However, the cause of death was this bullet in the forehead. The bullet model is the same as that of several dead people in the school, all 45ACP, used on USP, should be done by the same person. But why come so far? This place is about two kilometers away from XX University." The middle-aged man shook his head in confusion.
"Xiao Zhang, investigate his background thoroughly..."
"Yang Shu, Zhang Yan, you're here too. I heard there's been a murder case here as well..." A spirited and refreshing woman in police uniform jogged towards the two of them.
"Ling'er, what are you doing here? Didn't I tell you to stay put?" The middle-aged man shook his head with a bitter smile.
"Yang Shu, it's so boring there, and no one is accompanying me to chat. Everyone's face is tense, as if others owe them money." Zhuge Ling'er pulled the middle-aged man's sleeve and complained to him.
"How's the interrogation going?" The middle-aged man feigned seriousness.
"I've asked him, that Ye Feng doesn't know anything, I had already guessed it would be like this. He's even younger than me, how could he be involved in something like this?" Zhuge Ling'er shook her head and said.
"Haven't you forgotten to make a record?" The middle-aged man had an inquiring expression.
"I won't forget! Wait till you get back, I'll show it to you!" Zhuge Ling'er pouted, "You don't believe me at all."
"Huh, this person..." Zhuge Ling'er's gaze inadvertently fell on the corpse not far away from her feet, and she seemed to find that person somewhat familiar. She unconsciously walked forward, wanting to take a closer look.
"What are you doing? A dead body is nothing good to look at, don't get too close, you'll ruin the scene." The middle-aged man said, blocking his way.
"Yang Shu, this person looks a bit familiar to me, let me take a closer look." Zhuge Ling'er walked closer to the corpse and brushed away the disheveled hair covering the face, only then did she get a clear view of the man's appearance.
"Do you know him?" The middle-aged man slightly furrowed his brow.
"I don't know!" Zhuge Ling'er shook her head. "This outfit he's wearing, I've seen someone wear it before, the clothes and hairstyle are exactly the same, but that person was much older than him."
"Where is he? What's his name?" The middle-aged man saw that there was a lead and didn't plan to let it go.
"I'm not sure, when I was ten years old and went to Wudang Mountain with my dad to visit Master Kongxu, we met him on the way. Because of our family's high status, he even took the initiative to greet my dad. According to my dad, that person is a loose cultivator who practices poisonous skills, but I don't know anything else." Zhuge Ling'er stuck out her tongue.
"The deceased might have had a relationship with him." The middle-aged man furrowed his brow, and he was somewhat uneasy about this broken lead.
"That person is a loose cultivator, but he can still accept disciples. It's possible that this person is his disciple or even his descendant!" Zhuge Ling'er picked up the topic casually.
The middle-aged man took a glance at Zhuge Ling'er, then looked at the corpse, lowered his head, and had a thoughtful expression.
"Xiao Zhang, I've already had someone bring them over. You stay here and wait for them to arrive. Ling'er and I will head back first, the case analysis still needs to continue. Once the forensic results are out, bring all the files to me!" The middle-aged man gave Xiao Zhang a new task.
"Yes, Captain Yang!" Little Zhang readily accepted the task. For him, who had not been in the criminal police team for a long time and was still new to gun murder cases, it was a good learning opportunity.
"Yè Fēng, what a coincidence?"
Ye Feng raised his head and looked towards the source of the sound, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes, "Is it you?!"
"Ah, yes, Zhuzhu, you won't forget me, will you?" At this moment, Pearl had changed from her originally sexy high heels to white sports shoes, and her skirt had turned into blue washed denim jeans. Her top was no longer as revealing as before, but instead a white blouse, and even her hair was tied up in a ponytail. It was completely the image of a lively and energetic young girl, leaving Ye Feng stunned.
"What's wrong? You don't recognize me just because I changed my clothes?" Pearl stretched out her hand in front of Ye Feng, a faint smile flashing across her face.
"Nothing, but you've changed a lot!" Ye Feng shook his head, still wary of this woman. "What are you doing here?"
(I left work an hour early and rushed back home to post this chapter. Later, I'll attend the farewell party and buy some hangover medicine just in case. Hehe... I don't know what time I'll be back tonight. Tomorrow will have two updates, the first one should be around 1 pm, and there should be another update before 6 pm!)
