Interlude 3 -The Lonely Child of the Storm

I did not foresee anything that has happened so far on this island. I used to think that most of the ones who created me 3000 years ago are now completely extinct. One of the last few words I heard before slowly eating away all remaining power for all of eternity was “I’ll be back, my dear.” Before all of it was a command which my real mother left me to run when she left in a hurry. I do not know what these creatures called ‘dragons’ were but they are definitely the reason why she never came back. It was around 200 years later that I felt sorrow after she told me these words that made my mind sane for all these years. At that point, I did not really feel that they were ever returning to come and take me back.

All of these rain and dark clouds that have gathered were essentially here to protect me from being attacked by these ‘dragons’, and they never failed to do so. “Keep the storm on top of you, ok? Whatever arrives in this storm you are to defend yourself. Do not ever trust anything that doesn’t look like good people like, ok?” she told me in a hurry while embracing my small and frail body. “How should I know it is you, Mother?” I asked her there cluelessly of what was happening. “You will see me in my original form which is quite similar to you as this tower. But before all of that, stay on this island okay? Never leave and never put the weather device down. I promise. I’ll be back, my dear.” She then disappeared into thin air like how I used to make objects and toys that defended me from boredom. This blue light consumed her entire body and a massive object began to take shape in front of me as a tower. These blue lights converted her into the massive A1 Carrier which described itself as I see it. Huge text appeared in my eyes as I tried to rub them off as a little girl. That day I promised myself to always remember to look for any signs of the carrier. I saved the entire descriptive scans inside my library and even took an image of it. As for the weather device, it was a small object in my hands that glowed and looked flat like a brick tablet. It was also very thin and smooth to the touch, something named “smartphone” as I would try to find similar things in my library. I swallowed the entire thing and controlled it from then. Numerous storm clouds immediately gathered and appeared out of the clear blue skies. The once sunny morning clouds on these islands turned into a typhoon that engulfed everything around me. At that time when I swallowed the device it was called ‘Type E -1 Gap Generator’ which essentially just created a typhoon that blocked everything from visibility to passage. I could control it with my consciousness as I tried striking the sea in front of me and a thunder went on to strike that same spot. This device I held dear this entire 3 millennia passed as it was the only thing that reminded me of her. As long as it is still in me, I did not lose hope of waiting for me.

I existed at exactly where and when she left me through all of that. She created me as my original form of a massive 3 km high tower that loomed over the clear skies of that day. After she built me on my form she inserted a small device that created a body of a little girl which I took my second form that day. As that tower, I could not move or do anything without the devices I made to move myself. My biological body was not meant to operate for a long time and at 200 years, I collapsed inside my tower self which killed my biological body. I only managed to bring it back alive by ‘Biological Printing’ which made another version of myself back to a little girl again which grew like the rest of the demon race I saw through the images stored inside my libraries.

I was built purposely to store a library of what the demon race had to offer along with their weaponry. Something of which they made to defend themselves of something I do not know of. There were no entries of these ‘dragons’ or any creature similar to these beings. Grief and resentment held through my head for all these centuries that I have been waiting for her to come back for me. I thought of turning off the gap generator which was maintaining this typhoon for many years but that would make me vulnerable to these dragons until she came back. Thrilled to see my mother return, I made the storm around her cease briefly. This only made an entity under the water rise towards the surface which I have been seeing around since 2000 years ago. It was nothing more of a giant octopus that managed to cling and prevented my mother from moving. Irritated and furious I defended my mother from that enormous thing and used a weapon I have been testing around for some time. It was called a ‘railgun’ that used magical bullets that instantly pierced that thing. To my surprise, she was no longer the mother I was waiting for. Someone took her place in that carrier which I would only guess that she did not survive her fight against the dragons. She was someone that came from another world and took over her machine body. As Ai explained everything, I have nothing to blame against her. Better than having none, I asked her to be my mother as no one would ever come close to being one. Ai is already the A1 Carrier itself so it may make me less depressed about losing my real parent. That moment of the death of the demon lord made Ai the queen of the remaining demon race, along with the small child Arika had that I did not notice even through scans. I promised to protect my mother Ai as well as that young boy inside that tube I created to make him grow into a fully grown baby, taken from her own mother’s womb. I may not be the mother of that child Arika had, but I was empathetic to not leave him alone as my own did. If Ai would allow me to, I would gladly take that child as my own even though I never had any experiences as a mother. Before all of this, I would still need to find those dragons that killed my mother.

“Beeeeep. Beeeeep. Beeeeep.” A heavy warning pierced my thoughts as multiple dots appeared on my map around this entire typhoon. There were too many around 36 of them that entered the storm on the western side. I could not get a scan from this range but for what I think it is, it is most likely coming for Ai and the Arika as they encountered ships from the ‘Toratoga’ empire as I would recall. For the dots that I have seen the last time I entered this area, their numbers were reduced as a bigger dot signature appeared out of nowhere inside the storm I created. The giant octopus that attacked Mother earlier was most likely one of them. I would see these big dots appear from random places inside the storm as it reminded me of how annoying it was to hear these defensive alarms blaring for these random appearances. 16 more dots appeared from a single dot from the 36 and rapidly approached the center of the storm. I did not take chances as I prepared multiple weapons I have created from the blueprints of the libraries so far that would make fast action against these unknowns. Alarms blare across my tower self, it was only a matter of time before Ai notices this just after she cried for the demon queen’s death.

“What is happening, Kyushi?” Ai leaves the room as I see her through the eyes of my own body. I have that she is controlling. She was still at the last moment of her tears falling as she asked me about the alarms. “Something is approaching us at high speed. Mother, should I engage them?” I asked her despite tears still falling from her face. “Let us see them first before we can engage them. As soon as you see them, start scanning Kyushi!” Ai appears to grit her teeth as she relays orders to me. I could understand her rage as those bastards killed the demon queen with her young. If she agreed to me attacking those unknowns before we could even see them, I would have used the same weapon I used against the octopus. Just thinking of how cruel it would be to leave a child alone to live in this world without even meeting their mothers deserves the deepest punishment. I have turned red in anger and in the literal sense as multiple targets surrounded in a yellow triangle appear in my eyes. The first ones breach the inner cloud formation and soon others come with it.

“Mother, I see them flying above me.” Scanners start showing multiple lines along with their HP, MP, EXP, distance, and speed. Soon the unknowns were identified as ‘day vampires’ which showed their HP at around 1500 with 2000 MP. That is strange. I did not have anything that had a lead about these vampires before. I checked for entries of the word ‘dragons’ again in my library and showed complete information about them?! Where did all these come from?

This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.

“I used Digital Scan on them. They are… day vampires? What are vampires doing here? Aren’t they supposed to be with the demons?” Mother Ai looks at the windows from the hallway of the tower where her scans were automatically uploaded to my libraries. I see a small bar that shows rapidly changing numbers along with the words ‘day vampires’ and ‘dragons’. “You know something about dragons, Mother? I thought you were a reincarnate?” curiosity hits me while in a slowly increasing rage inside me. “Hmm? I have never seen one other than the otherworldly depictions from my world. I also know they exist in this world since the memory of the A1 held something about dragons. I am currently passing the info I have to you.” As I thought, these dragons definitely killed her or at least drained her power to death as Mother Ai arrived at this place with less than 1% of energy left. The A1 and I are self-sustaining with this ‘nuclear-mana reactor’ as this was described to be long-lasting but never infinite. The reactor I had consumed all of the remaining energy and I am merely running on backup power. They must have taken it, else it would not make sense that Mother Ai’s power was at 1% when she was merely stored under an island.

16 Unknowns were floating right above my head as they seemed to stop moving. Enhanced zoom showed multiple men and women vampires conversing with each other as the first one to arrive appeared to be their leader. I can see with my second body’s eyes as well which Mother has been scanning them with the same ability I have. One of the vampires appeared to hold a paper and soon took something from their pocket.

“We cannot risk anything inside this storm from being seen. For all I know, they are here for Arika as you would have detected multiple signatures from your map. Right, Kyushi?” That last part caught me. “How did you know they were dots on the western side of the typhoon?!” “Hehe. Let’s just say it was something your real mother made measures to see everything that you were doing.” Mother Ai replied with her smiling directly at the camera from the hallway. My real mother was watching me from afar this whole time? Why did she not send anything that made me know she was in danger or anything?! The thought came as I remembered the letter Arika made before dying to which I compared myself to her child. She might not have the time to tell me anything during her fight against those dragons. She was not trying to keep secrets from me, she was trying to protect me. Isolating herself away to prevent me from coming for her in rescue. Even so, I was not even prepared to do such a thing when I was still a child in my second body.

My thoughts were again interrupted as I saw another triangle appear and this time it was red in color. It was falling straight towards me. Mother Ai was caught off guard by it and even told me in sheer concern. “They threw something at us! Hit that thing mid-air before it reaches you!” Mother Ai screamed as I prepared to hit with the Quick Defense Turret. A blue shape and outline appeared on the base of my tower and immediately materialized into the turret. The object in the red triangle was relatively small and so was the turret which was enough to reach and destroy it before it hit me. I was not taking any chances and was fired at the moment the turret turned towards it. I could have used the storm to strike it with lightning from the sky but it was too slow to activate by 0.945 seconds. A loud hiss and machinery pierced the air along with the distant thunder from the surrounding storm. The barrel of that turret I made spun rapidly and fired small objects that would look like a smaller version of the railgun that appeared on the magical crest at the top of my head as the tower. These bullets were so many that it looked like it was a straight line but it was in fact just too close to each other.

“Eliminate all of the vampires in the sky, Kyushi! We cannot let them escape from what they have just seen. They were probably here as scouts to see what was waiting for them.”

“As you wish, Mother.” I took it out to test the storm on those targets but they were high above the thunderstorms. The defense turret is already built so I might as well use it to end each of them. More blue outlines of the turret were built on several key areas on the island as well as on my tower body. All of them turned to face the enemy as they simultaneously fired with a pattern to fill the entire sky with the bullets from these mini railguns. These streaks of gold light filled the sky and hit all of the 16 day vampires flying overhead. They never even saw it coming, these lights were true to their speed. They each fell from the sky with most of their wings clipped and riddled with holes. These turrets were amazing! I could not have thought of these to make from those years if not for the blueprints the demon race had!

“Hmm?...” I audibly expressed my confusion as Mother Ai would hear it clearly. She seems to have even caught the strange sight. “I know what you are thinking. One of them is missing? Only 15 circles I see are slowly falling from the sky.” She guessed correctly or rather had read my structure mind clearly. “One must have escaped through the chaos. I am deeply sorry for my incompetence.” “Ohh. Don’t say that! She must have used her Invisibility skill.” I was left out of the loop. “Invisibility skill? But I see nothing from the scans I have?” “I used the skills Arika gave me after she left this world. One of which was Appraisal. It is quite similar to the ones we use but was meant for magic.” I was left ecstatic. “Please, Mother! Let me analyze your Artificial Intelligence Unit after all of this ends. At some point, I could integrate that with my own Digital Scan and we could improve our own devices!” I pleaded like a child discovering the concept of a toy. It would appear that I was meant to be infinitely curious about what else could have been improved for an object or anything that could be improved. After all, I was named a Black Angel Research Facility for a reason. All of the toys I made during my lifetime are improved and proven over time as I have lived through them. My toys only need target practice and testing against a real opponent. I wish I could show them to Mother Ai someday but for now, I would work on finding this Appraisal skill blueprint and work on that myself for me and Mother Ai.

“Yes, yes, I like your thinking! However, for now, we need to prepare for those dots slowly approaching their way into our storm. How is me doing down there?”

“Already at full charge, Mother. If you wish to return then you could go down under the island and bring it with you.” Despite using my own power to charge her own, my capacity is beyond her. For every 1% of mine was 1000 of her’s and it barely consumed my own. I am happy to give whatever she needs from me.

“Those turrets you made were effective. If you have more of them or any more defensive weapons, now would be the time to make them. From the speed of those dots, they would arrive here within the day. I’m counting on you, daughter.” she smiled at the camera while she headed down to get herself.

“Understood. Mother” I turned to my toy blueprint folders and built them around me as fast as possible.

“What?!” I stared again at the map, the radar on which I saw all of the dots and most of them disappeared. “Impossible! How did they get here so fast?!” Mother Ai was just as shocked as I was until I saw multiple circles with inscriptions on the water. These inscriptions were large and from them slowly appeared ships. The entire fleet of dots teleported from outside the eye of the storm up to my own eyes. 167 ships arrived in front of me in an instant. No, they were not teleported. They were just too fast that it would seem they teleported. Some of the dots are still outside and are rapidly approaching.

“It seems we did not have to wait.” Mother Ai spoke. Her eyes glowed red in the literal sense as I saw it from the hallway camera. She had a look of what someone would look when they saw a dying mother like the demon lord. Her frown was then overshadowed by a grin and then a smile. A smile I would relate to when I get to kill my mother's murderers soon. A great battle between the last of the demon race creations is finally about to start.
