Chapter One Hundred: Empty Coffin

Inkstone, soybeans, five-colored flags. There is no altar here, no offerings, and nobody knows what they will face.

Mo Du used a thread to weave the coffin into a grid shape, which is called Tianluo Diwang, preventing sudden corpse movement inside. The five-color flags are black, white, green, red and yellow, derived from the four symbols and five elements. Left Qinglong, right Baihu, front Zhuque and back Xuanwu.

"The four spirits, the four images, each guarding one direction, with the yellow flag in hand, yin and yang are mine!" He flipped his body and inserted the yellow flag upright at his feet, while the other small flags were placed at the east, south, west, and north positions of the coffin.

In every corner, a handful of soybeans was scattered, on top of the soybeans was pressed a talisman paper, on top of the talisman paper was placed a copper coin, and in the hole of the copper coin was placed a glutinous rice grain stained with one's own blood, forming a ring within a ring, none of which could be missing.

Drawing his sword, he pasted the symbol on it. With a gentle stroke of his finger along the blade, the Seven Stars Sword seemed to respond with a slight tremble.

He raised his sword, and Cha Wenbin held the sword upright in front of him, crossing it to the left side. With a flip of his left hand, he didn't know what he had tucked away, but a burst of sparks flashed out, sticking to the sword body, and with a "swoosh" sound, the talisman paper at the front end was set on fire.

"Hua Jian, sword dance like flowers, foot treads the heavenly gang, left and right alternate back and forth, sword edge sweeps across four sides, then stands up, mouth recites: 'Rivers, lakes, day, month, mountains, seas, stars in my palm, I make bright then bright, dark then dark; Thirty-three heavenly gods under my law, make east then east, make west then west, make south then south, make north then north; Those who follow my seal, those who do not follow my order will be beheaded!'"

After drinking, he took three steps forward and walked right to the coffin. He thrust the Seven Stars Sword into the mud in front of the coffin with a "hiss" sound. A burst of green smoke rose from the ground, as if a burning wooden stick had been inserted into water.

He took two steps back, pulled out a talisman from his chest and stuck it to the fat boy's chest, then quickly pressed the fat boy's temples with his fingers. He muttered: "Lingbao Tianzun, comfort the body; my disciple's soul, the mysterious darkness of the five organs; Qinglong Baihu, the team is in a hurry; Zhuque Xuanwu, guarding my true body, Taishang Laojun, urgent as the law!" Then he suddenly bit his middle finger and pressed it to the fat boy's forehead. Before the fat boy could react, he immediately ran behind him and pushed him forward, shouting: "Guardian, open the coffin!"

Fatty didn't react until now, and he turned his head, stuttering: "O...open coffin?"

Zha Wenbin's expression didn't seem like he was joking, a change from his usual seriousness, even the fatty felt like he didn't recognize him anymore. He sternly said: "Open!"

With a "ka" sound, the engineer's shovel fiercely pried it open. Fatso exerted his strength and pressed down, like Mount Tai pressing down on top. With a "keng" sound, the coffin lid started to rise. Fatso lifted up his right foot and kicked it hard, and the coffin lid flew backward several meters. A wave of exotic fragrance suddenly wafted out, without any stench of corpses.

Fatso turned around and said, "How strange! It smells so good. Master Cha, there's a coffin inside, it's a set of coffins." "Wait," he said, bending down to stick his head into the coffin. In an instant, he pulled out a small box about the length of his arm and exclaimed with glee, "It was placed on top of the coffin, probably a burial object."

"Put it down!" Zhang Wenbin shouted.

Fat boy's hands loosened, "pa" sound, the small box fell to the ground and opened, a clay pot "dripped" out. The bottle was about the same size as a wine bottle, ordinary in appearance, and happened to roll to Cha Wenbin's feet.

Zha Wenbin stepped on it with one foot, leaned down to take a look, and found that the mouth of the bottle was sealed with a mixture of yellow mud and rice husks, which really had a flavor similar to that of an old wine jar.

"Good stuff!" Fatso rubbed his hands together and chuckled.

"Bone ash urn, you can take it home and sleep with it if you feel good. Eight out of ten, this thing is causing trouble. I just opened my heavenly eye and saw that you were holding a black thing in your hand. If it's open, it will be big trouble."

He tossed it to Fatso with one hand and said, "Seal it up, take it back and find a place to bury it, then continue driving."

Fatty hummed and bowed his head to think, but it didn't seem right. There were no grid lines on the coffin, so he asked: "Master Cha, can we open it? It's not like there are any traps."

"If there's something that needs to happen, even the heavens and earth can't stop it. Just a single layer is enough, no need for multiple layers of reinforcement." He said this as he walked over to the inner coffin and scattered a handful of glutinous rice on it: "A hundred evils hide in the nine regions, all demons crouch in the forest; heavenly flowers scatter Dharma rain, the Dharma drum shakes off the confused layer. All grievances, hatred, and slaughter are dispersed. Dust returns to dust, earth returns to earth, the coffin is broken but not seen by the sun, do not become a ghost or a human."

  "Is that it?"

He casually grabbed a handful of glutinous rice from the coffin lid and placed it in his palm, dividing it into three piles, then counted on his fingers and said: "Open it, I'll stand beside you and watch, the evil spirit is not heavy, should be fine."

The fatty used his foot to hold down the box, just like opening a beer bottle cap, and took the engineer's shovel to push it up. With a crisp "bang" sound, the coffin lid was opened, and inside, there was another layer of coffins, which was within Cha Wenbin's expectation.

The outermost layer of the coffin is red with black wood grain, and the one that Fatso just opened is black with a red bottom. In theory, this kind of coffin should have three layers, so the golden-red coffin in front of us should be the main one. It's about two meters long, half a meter wide, wider at the top than at the bottom, and its shape is very similar to that of ordinary coffins.

The special thing about this coffin is probably that gold-painted picture. The first impression this painting gave to Zha Wenbin was a pattern of human faces. But this impression only flashed through his mind, and when he came back to himself again, he felt it was just an ordinary pattern.

"What's wrong, Uncle Cha?" asked Pangzi.

Zha Wenbin said: "Nothing much, this is the main coffin, open it."

"Wait!" Ye Qiu came over and glanced at the coffin: "Can't we just leave it alone?"

Fatty stiffened his neck and said: "If you're not going to move, then why did you come down?"

Ye Qiu didn't say anything else and quietly retreated back. Cha Wenbin asked Pangzi to wait for a moment, then went to look for Ye Qiu.

"Anything wrong?" "No." "If there is, then there is." "Better not open it."

"Give me a reason." "No reason."

Cha Wenbin said to Ye Qiu: "This time, I won't listen to your intuition again. Not a single one of my flags has moved, and I can guarantee the safety here."

With a "crack", the coffin lid was pried open, and the layer of ash on top also rose into the air. The fat man's eyes were wide with excitement, his eyeballs bulging bigger than a cow's, just as the ash flew right into his eyes.

The fat man rubbed his eyes, and vaguely he saw someone lying in the coffin. When he opened his eyes again after clearing out the dust, there was nothing inside the coffin.

This is an empty coffin, there's nothing inside, completely empty!

It took the strength of nine cows and two tigers, is this a joke? In the end, it's just this box? Zha Wenbin couldn't believe his eyes, and Fatso even searched every inch of the coffin, empty was really empty, no one could have predicted this ending.

Zha Wenbin sat paralyzed on the ground, looking at the flags in the four corners, he suddenly felt a little ridiculous. Was this Buddhist ceremony just for the sake of watching that thing in the small urn?

"It's clear that there is a burial, but it's an empty tomb. Let's go." Cha Wenbin began to pack up his things with a self-deprecating smile.

"What's the big fuss about? What's the point?" The fat man pointed to the urn in his hand and said, "I really don't understand why you wouldn't sleep in such a good coffin but instead squat in this small urn. You're being cheap!"

After finishing collecting, Cha Wenbin saw Ye Qiu still dazed there, and he went up to remind him: "Let's go, what are you thinking about?"

"He said: 'That coffin is not the owner of the tomb.'"

Cha Wenbin's heart skipped a beat as he asked, "Whose?"

"It's all prepared for us." Ye Qiu said this with an unusual calmness, like a half-century-old man. He continued: "This tomb, this coffin, are all prepared for those who come in. Without anyone lying inside, how can it be considered a grave? If not a grave, then it's just an empty shell." He turned his face and said: "I somewhat understand now, you're a Taoist, I ask you, is there really such a thing as yin-yang in this world?"

  "If you believe it."

"Then I'll ask you," Ye Qiu continued, "is our current location yin or yang?"

"Of course it's yang, yang is where living people stay."

"Where are we now?" "A vacant tomb." Zha Wenbin deliberately added a "vacant".

"Who is the tomb for?" Ye Qiu's question directly hit Cha Wenbin's forehead, after hearing this sentence, Cha Wenbin also understood a bit, he replied: "The tomb is where the dead live, and the place where the dead stay is naturally the underworld. But we are living people entering the tomb, so naturally we see the world of the living, thank you for reminding me."

He then hastily called out to Fatso: "Wait, come by my side and be my guardian."
