Chapter 21: Something Follows

Theo knew he was being followed.

It started early that morning; he caught the whiff of faint perfume and saw the wisp of a shadow in the corner of his vision. Yet each time he tried to find it; it was gone. He couldn’t help but wonder if he was going crazy.

After leaving the cafeteria, Theo tried to ascertain what mysterious presence might’ve been stalking him, but so far had yet to discover the truth. He supposed it was possible he was just tired. Then again, there was a certain half vampire red haired devil that kept slipping him nude photos in the most random of pces. He literally just opened his textbook the other day to find a stunning image of Sophia squeezing her own breasts together, licking her own nipples.

How she managed to sneak that one proved how dangerous she was. There was a part of him that wanted to reciprocate her affections. She certainly had a beautiful body, a little more lithe than he would’ve preferred but still hot. His horny young mind had a hard time not appreciating some of the more sultry images she sent him. He had masturbated to them more than once, but he had no desire to, as Atticus would put it, tap that. There was a dark side to Sophia that genuinely scared Theo, and he was reminded of it whenever he spoke to her.

Another shadow startled him, followed by the sound of feet shuffling on the pavement behind him. Theo turned around, noticing nothing. He studied the trees in the park, their branches moving with the wind, and the bushes along the side of the buildings, half expecting to see something hiding amongst them. He couldn’t see anything, even amongst the shadows where he usually could see clearly.

“It’s just paranoia,” he muttered to himself.

Thunder echoed overhead. Looking up, he could see billowing clouds. Most of the wind never made it inside campus grounds, but the wind that did found itself bouncing around the interior of the dome, creating a more turbulent pattern that sometimes felt like one was pushed around in all directions at once. Sometimes, small dust devils were formed, but that only created a fun spectacle, rather than anything resembling something more akin to an actual tornado.

He sighed to himself, rolling his shoulders. Theo shifted the weight of his backpack and wiped the sweat from his brow. He still had lectures on mathamancy that afternoon and an exotic literature course immediately after. This time they were going to cover the romantic epics of harpy’s. He hoped it was more legible than the war balds of the Dragonkin, which read more like sword and shield porn than anything else.

It certainly couldn’t be any worse than the histories of vampires, which were so myriad that no one knew which stories were based on fact or purely works of fiction.

  That brought back a memory.

It was then that he had an idea of who might be following him. It wasn’t Sophia, but perhaps, another ginger pure blooded vampire prone to setting things of fire.

Damn, what could she possibly want? You better not have destroyed my tome. He could already picture seeing her rush to his side from the bushes, offering a charred-up book in her hands, her mouth feigning a quivering smile.

“Vampire, I swear if you’re following me…” He kept looking around, finding nothing out of the ordinary. Theo eventually shrugged, turning around and continuing on his way to css.

Meanwhile, Lorelei continued hugging the tree branches up above in a tree no farther than a dozen meters away, watching him with keen interest.

“Shit that was close. What is wrong with me?” Lorelei cursed herself. Never before had she had such a hard time tailing someone. She felt completely off her game. “Get it together Lori, don’t get caught.”

Just as she was about to reposition herself, a notification appeared over her vision, Dove was trying to call her.

  “Dove, kinda busy right now.”

She could hear the sound of chaos in the background.

“Master, the pixie and snake are fighting again.” Dove’s voice was becoming a little more characteristic of te, less shallow and empty like an empty minded slut. “I fear they may set the living quarters on fire again.”

“For the love of…” Lorelei seethed. Only two days on campus, and she had yet to have a single night of peace. Marci had been retively easy to room with, but the guest she kept letting in the dorm was nothing but pure chaos. “I’ll be there ter. Just keep them out of our room.”

“I’ll do my best master.” Dove ended the message.

Lorelei’s fingernails were digging into the bark. She looked around, trying to spot Theo. “Theo, where did you go?”
