chapter 2: Natural ventilation, I guess.

Oliver waves as his grandma takes the reins of her beetle in her hands, and with a tap of her foot, the beetle unfolds its wings and takes off.

He watches as they become smaller and smaller in the evening sky. When he can't see them anymore, he enters the estate for the first time in 14 years.

It's dusty, and some of the windows are broken, but the grandiose entrance is a sight to behold: the marble flooring, the grand staircase, and most of all, the giant round stained glass window depicting St. Ambrose. Who that is he doesnt know only the name was ingraved below the window on a broze plaquette.

He goes around and takes note of what needs doing. Every window has to be replaced as they are single panes of glass most of the furniture needs to be thrown out. The living room chandelier fell and broke some of the tile floor, and the wall between the dining room and kitchen has water damage.

Oliver looks up and down the wall, seeing that the damage originates from about the middle of the wall.

He guesses it's a pipe leaking inside the wall. He hears movement inside of it. “Ho dammit thers are mice in the walls too. I'll break open the wall tomorrow to fix the pipe.”

He goes into the kitchen and finds a folder on the counter. He opens the folder and finds a note inside that reads, “Please don't try it yourself. - Mom ” Oliver doesn't understand what the note from his mother means until he looks at the documents that are in the folder.

The documents are the quote from a local roofing company. Oliver looks at the documents, finding the price good, but he gets kind of worried as he reads the part where it states a tree fell on the roof not long ago and left a hole in it. He goes outside to see the damage, but it's covered in a blue tarp. He guesses the roofers doing the quote did it to prevent rain from getting in. Oliver looks at the tarp and thinks aloud, “If they are willing to do that for a potential customer, then I'll give them a chance.” While the quote is reasonable, it is still expensive: seventy thousand dollars for asphalt shingles, one hundred thousand dollars for metal roofing, two hundred thousand dollars for tile, and three hundred fifty thousand dollars for slate roofs. Oliver looks up at the roof curently its dark red tile bit he doesnt think it fits so he decides to go with slate he goes back inside and tries to use the light switch as it becomes to dark to read the rest of the documents only to find they dont work, not in the kitchenor or in the dining room he tries the one in the livingroom a few times before he looks at the chandelier on the gruond.

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

He turns on his flashlight and searches for the circuit breaker. It's either in the basement or the garage. He walks back into the foyer and takes the door behind the grand staircase down to the basement. At the bottom of the basement stairs is an armored door. This is probably where uncle cept his transfer formatoin. The formation is the family's most guarded secret not to maintain a monopoly but just because if they are made incorrectly, someone could a variety of different failures from a minor shock to taking out half the estate.

Luckily for him and to the frustration of his grandma and parents, doors could rarely stop him as he begins to turn into smoke and slips under the armored door. Both he and his brother are rare in his family as he is an ofshoot and his brother an original. He, as an offshoot, did not inherit his mother's anomaly of fire generation, but he did get something that was affected by his mothers anomaly so while his mother creates fire he can become smoke his brother however did not inherit any anomaly from the family and was born with his unicue anomaly of super strength.

Inside the basement, Oliver finds his uncle's old transfer formation, but after 14 years of neglect, it's merely some chalk on the ground. While he can't create oceans of flame like his mother, he has learnt how to heat his smoke to cumbust again. he uses this to navigate the small basement as he couldn't take his flashlight with him. The only thing it must have been used for was the formation, so Oliver decides to go and buy a plasma torch next time he is in town to cut open the door so he can replace it with one that he has the key for.

He fades back into smoke and slips back under the door.

Going back up the foyer he relizes he needs to gets the lights back on as its pitch black outside now and the only light he has is his phone flashlight he takes the door to the garage but before he gets there he goes through the large library all the books are gone probably taken by the family but he has difrent ideas for the library all the empty shelves will be used to put interesting relics on display for potentail buyers.

He walks through the library and enters the utility room there, he finds an old washer and dryer, stuff to clean, and on the far wall, the circuit breaker. Oliver opens the circuit breaker door and looks for why the electricity doesn't work. He looks up and finds the main breaker turned off. Before he turns it on, he turns off the breaker to the living room so the broken chandelier won't cause problems. Now, with the living room breaker off, he turns on the main one and tries the light switch in the utility room. The fluorescent lights flicker to life, bathing the room in sterile white light. With power restored, Oliver goes to read the rest of the roofing documents.
