Chapter 17 Golems, ducks, geese, and cows

The next few weeks flew by in a haze. Silk had gained an animal-charming skill from me, but it didn’t make her better at taking care of animals; all animals were more friendly towards her. That included wolves in the forest who would be more wary or avoid her instead of outright attacking when they could. It took some convincing to get Silk back into my bed, but after telling her of the benefits, she reluctantly agreed.

It meant that most nights ended in a threesome, very rarely did I get either one of my partners by themselves, and after just a few days of this pying out, Silk felt like a missing part of the family was found. She was feral while in heat; she now took the backseat role to Tems and would only jump in after watching us the first time. We only needed to do it once for the daily bonus to take pce, but that was rarely the case.

I had grown to a point where Tems was not enough, but with the two, I felt satisfied, and neither was so worn out that they couldn’t work the next day. The two got along perfectly to the point that Tems sometimes filled in on guard duty when she had free time and didn’t feel like exploring. It also meant that we had another mouth to feed, and Silk was a fan of the milk, eggs, and meat we were bringing in.

Her job became to milk the goats and collect the chicken eggs for breakfast and dinner. I bought more chickens, bringing us up to a good dozen as I bought some duck babies and geese too. The geese weren’t great for their eggs, but they protect the more stupid ducks and chickens. It also meant more work as I had to keep supplying the ducks with enough water for them to feel comfortable.

I also put in an order for a guard dog and a farm cat. We hadn’t gotten them yet, but the moment two were born or we found out if a nearby vilge had two they didn’t need, we’d get them. The geese… Hated my guts and only seemed to get along with Silk and Tems. I couldn’t get too close to them unless I was feeding them or bringing the ducks more buckets of water, because they spshed out what was in the duck basin I made. At some point, I reached twenty-five again.

Wicker quality- Crops grown on wicker golems now also have an increased quality by 50%. Potential bonus doubled if higher quality fertilizer is used.

The wicker skills were another pick, one of the three choices, and as cool as a set of wicker armor or tools would be… The quality bonus is too amazing of a boost. It would upgrade anything grown from potential rare to epic. I pick wicker quality and make another golem, bringing my total to three. One mushroom, one lichen, and one vine. I had realized at some point… I was making far more money than I had any right to, for it being my first year of growing crops.

It just wasn’t my first year; it was barely through spring, and summer just started. I still had another half a year to grow my css until winter, and then there were special winterized crops I could grow. I was making money hand over fist and rolling every single copper back into my field. A brand new adventurer might be able to earn two or three gold, but I had already made twice that amount, and the amount was just going to keep increasing as I kept expanding.

I picked strawberry for the vine golem. I just knew instinctively that even though they were considered a bush, they worked in a simir enough way that the vine golem would function perfectly normally with growing strawberries. My other options were just worse than that one. Grapes were too slow growing, at least the food part of the pnt anyway. The grape vines had spread the entire side of the wall I pnted them on and started to expand on the adjacent walls of the vilge.

I would have no problems making wine. The biggest problem would be harvesting and making the wine before the fruit spoiled; they had spread that far already, to where we might get hundreds of bottles of wine made every single year now because of it. Tomatoes were a choice, but I don’t really think they’d work well on a golem. It was a lot more work and pnning than just pnting an uncommon magified strawberry I had ordered. The boost wasn’t great, just slightly increased taste and size, but every bit added up.

It did mean that if an epic magified strawberry was made, it would be that much bigger and sweeter compared to a normal epic strawberry. I still needed the high-quality fertilizer to get the full effect. After that, I would start looking for magified versions of the poisons to make the three poison golems I had pnned. That would also give me a reason to visit the alchemist, to have her make poisons for me to sell.

Things just kept improving, slowly but surely we were making progress. Silk and Tems began to explore the forest in their free time together. I had decided that with me, we would get too sidetracked picking up everything we passed by. I had only gone in with them once, and Silk yelled at me as I had the bag filled a mile into the forest.

I was just too good at spotting various items that sold for a tiny amount but were valuable enough not to pass up. They bypassed them all and normally brought back silvers more stuff than they’d get going with me. If I did go with them, it was only until the bag was full, then they’d go in further. I waited patiently for them to get back as I avoided the geese that were also waiting for them.

After seeing them coming from the woods, I couldn’t help but smile until I saw what they were bringing back with them, and my jaw dropped. They managed to lure a small group of magified cows back with them. The bull that guided the smaller cows was above my eye level. I gulped as our eyes met, but he didn’t deem me a threat and quickly ignored me.

Normal cows were expensive… Magified cows, even common, were beyond expensive. I’d guess the four females and one bull would cost over ten gold. The only problem would be if they monsterized instead, but that was something to worry about in the future. Even if they did, I’d have made enough money to pay for whatever they destroyed ten times over by then. As I began to excitedly walk towards the town. I knew that fencing these animals between the farm and forest would be a great deterrent for when the goblin army got built back up. I gulped my saliva as I wondered what their special milk would taste like.
