Chapter 2: Jester on the Move

Since the hawk flew and took one of Jester’s comrades, the frog began to hop away from his usual post. Harper and Jo watched with amazement. They could see the other predators lining up ready to take on Jester as he fled.

“Come on Jester, you can do it,” said Harper.

Jo could literally see Harper dressed in a male cheerleader suit but instead of some sport – it was going to be for Team Jester! Jo couldn’t help himself but to see which predators would be suitable to take on Jester. Jo loved watching commentary on sports, regardless of the sort. He noticed at least three dingos in the distance. One dingo was sniffing in the air, trying to get a scent of the frogs.

“If you can name an animal, so can I,” said Jo.

“Wait, you’re going to name the predator animals?” asked Harper with such shock.

Jo wanted to just play around with Harper, he wasn’t hoping anything bad would happen to Jester.

“Fine, tell me what you are going to call that dingo over there?” asked Harper.

“Oh, I think I’ll call that dingo Ed,” said Jo.

“What if it’s a girl dingo?” asked Harper.

“Then it’s a non-binary dingo named Ed,” laughed Jo.

Jo didn’t want to mock non-binary names, but felt compelled to use it since he didn’t know the dingo’s gender. The dingo sniffed around carefully among the sort of frogs. The frogs hopped away as best as they could from Ed. Then Ed began to gobble one frog at a time. Jester was just inches away from Ed’s jaws.

  “There Ed goes,” said Jo.

“Come on Jester, you can do it,” said Harper.

Harper did his best hoping Ed wouldn’t see Jester – too late, Ed did see Jester and the chase was on. Jester the banjo frog did his best trying to avoid Ed. Ed began to chomp at the frog, but Jester was faster.

“See, Jester can outrun any predator here,” said Harper.

Jo then noticed a few skunks nearby. Though he wasn’t a fan of skunks because of the smell. He knew they would love to eat frogs. A few skunks managed to catch one of Jester’s friends. Neither human could believe how the skunk was eating the frog.

“Well, I guess that’s how nature is sometimes” sighed Harper.

Both of them continued to follow Jester through the outback. Jester continued on with his journey he didn’t know he was being followed by the two humans. Then another hawk came swooping down, nearly taking Jester but taking another frog instead.

“My there are sure quite a number of hawks out here today,” said Harper.

“I believe you’re right,” said Jo.

Evening was creeping in soon, and the nocturnal animals were coming out. Both Harper and Jo soon headed back to their camp.

“You think Jester will survive the evening?” asked Harper.

“Well, he survived Ed, he survived the hawk at least twice” said Jo, “so, probably.”

Neither of them knew of the Sydney funnel web spider lurking in the shadows. The evening was the perfect time for such a spider to come out and hunt for frogs like Jester. Jester did his best trying to find some shad. He could see his comrades were dwindling. He needed to rest; he had traveled quite a distance. Crickets soon began to chirp, and Jester even needed to eat himself. He ate a few crickets here and there that appeared. He was unaware of the Sydney funnel web spider approaching.
