Chapter 1 – Madman Chen Xun

"Heh heh, I am invincible in this world, ha ha ha!"

On the bustling street, a young man in tattered blue robes, carrying a wooden sword, suddenly tossed his book aside, pced his hands on his hips, and ughed up at the sky.

This sudden scene startled the passing pedestrians, who were about to scold him, but when they looked up and saw the disheveled young man, their expressions froze.

Oh, it's that crazy schor. Never mind then.

They muttered under their breath about bad luck and left one after another.

The Schor in Blue Robes chuckled, picked up his book again, and squatted at the street corner, fervently flipping through the pages.

Occasionally, passersby would gnce at what the Schor in Blue Robes was so engrossed in, only to be baffled by the sight of a bnk, unrecorded book. They would shake their heads, mutter about him being a madman, toss a few copper coins his way, and leave.

But the Schor in Blue Robes paid no attention to any of this, completely absorbed in his own world.

The Schor in Blue Robes was named Chen Xun, and no one knew where he came from.

The townsfolk only knew that ever since this Schor in Blue Robes appeared in Little River Town, he never left.

It's been two and a half years now, and everyone knows there's a crazy Schor in Blue Robes in town.

Chen Xun would squat at the street corner reading, no one knew what he was reading, and he would often excim, drool with a silly smile, or perform bizarre actions that left onlookers stunned, like some kind of odd creature.

Soon, the sun began to set.

  "Grumble, grumble."

  Chen Xun's stomach growled.

Curious, Chen Xun patted his stomach and said, "Can you growl again?"

  "Grumble, grumble."

"Hey!" Chen Xun's interest was piqued. He quickly stood up and grabbed a bewildered old man passing by, pointing at his stomach in shock: "It's growling. Can you hear it growling?"

Old Li, seeing it was Chen Xun, pursed his lips, leaned closer to Chen Xun's stomach, pretended to listen, and then nodded seriously, "Yes, it's growling."

He then cast a cautious gnce, fearing Chen Xun might do something outrageous next.

Old Li, being of advanced age, worried about his dignity.

Chen Xun looked suspicious, "Why is it growling?"

Old Li cleared his throat and said, "It's hungry, so it's growling."

Old Li didn't want to linger with this madman Chen Xun and wanted to leave, but Chen Xun held onto his hand tightly, leaving him no chance to escape.

  "Hungry?"

Chen Xun's face twisted, scratching his head in confusion, "How can it be hungry? That's not right. How can I be hungry?! It's so annoying, it's constantly growling, it's really annoying!! Ahhhhh!!"

"Damn!" Old Li was startled by Chen Xun's demeanor and quickly said, "It's okay, it's okay! Calm down! I'll take you to eat, once you're full it won't growl anymore!"

Hearing this, Chen Xun calmed down a bit and looked at Old Li expectantly, "Really?"

Old Li awkwardly gnced at his hand, which was tightly held by Chen Xun, and nodded, "Re...ally."

Then, with many strange looks from the passersby, Chen Xun and Old Li left hand in hand, Old Li's face flushed with embarrassment, menting his lost dignity.

Usually, people would avoid this crazy schor, but today, he was caught off guard. What bad luck.

  ***

  Happiness Noodle House.

  Slurp, slurp, slurp, slurp—

Chen Xun buried his head in the noodles, eating voraciously, completely ignoring the astonished looks from other patrons.

Old Li, sitting across the table, wasn't focused on Chen Xun but rather on the towering stack of bowls.

Ten bowls, meaning Chen Xun was now on his eleventh bowl.

Old Li's heart pounded; this kid could really eat, like a starving ghost reborn!

No, no, he couldn't let him keep eating like this; at this rate, even a mountain of gold would be eaten away!

  "All gone."

At that moment, Chen Xun looked up at Old Li, pointing at the bowl with his chopsticks.

The old man looked at the empty bowl with difficulty, thinking to himself, good heavens, he's finished it again, not even sparing the broth.

"Uh, Chen Xun, you've already eaten eleven bowls, and you're still not full?"

  Old Li asked tentatively.

Chen Xun touched his face, confidently saying, "No!"

  Old Li paused.

Good heavens, whether you're full or not, shouldn't you touch your stomach, not your face?

Besides, can't you feel if you're full or not?

Just as he thought this, Old Li suddenly realized, damn, he almost forgot, this kid is a madman, you can't treat him with normal logic.

Old Li sighed, checked his pockets, and awkwardly smiled, "Chen Xun, I don't have much money left, I still need to buy a hairpin for my granddaughter ter, I can't afford to buy you more noodles!"

The implication was clear, eleven bowls were the limit.

But Chen Xun just frowned and said, "Money?"

Old Li was dumbfounded, "You have to pay for the noodles, do you think the owner will let you eat for free?"

  Chen Xun nodded thoughtfully.

Seeing this, Old Li was pleased. Chen Xun might be mad, but he still had some basic understanding, which made things easier. As long as Chen Xun understood, it was fine.

At least at this moment, he seemed more normal than before, capable of normal conversation.

  "Then just don't pay."

Unexpectedly, Chen Xun suddenly said seriously.

Old Li's expression became very interesting, his mouth agape, not knowing what to say.

And Chen Xun's words were heard by many patrons and the noodle house owner.

The owner immediately jumped out, saying angrily, "Chen Xun, if you dare to dine and dash, I'll report you to the authorities!"

But Chen Xun didn't understand anything about being reported or not, he just turned his head and looked at the owner as if he were an idiot.

The owner's mouth twitched uncontrolbly, today he was actually looked down upon by a fool... he was about to get angry and teach Chen Xun a lesson!

He couldn't help but be angry, knowing that usually, he would often take pity on Chen Xun and give him food, but Chen Xun didn't remember any of his kindness, and even looked at him like that.

"Cough, cough, Old Xu, Old Xu, don't be angry, we'll pay, today I'm treating Chen Xun."

Old Li quickly stood up, handing over the thirty-three copper coins he had prepared for the noodles, then pulled Chen Xun out of the noodle house.

The owner took the money, his expression softened, but he still looked at Chen Xun's departing figure, muttering, "Hmph, ungrateful wolf, if I ever give him food again, I won't be called Xu!"

"Oh come on, boss, calm down, why bother with a madman."

"Yeah, boss, Chen Xun is a pitiful person, so young and already mad, sigh."

  "......"

The patrons all chimed in to comfort him, the owner forced a smile, and turned back to the kitchen.

  Meanwhile.

"Chen Xun, it's getting te, I need to buy a hairpin for my granddaughter and then head home."

Old Li said with a smile.

As he spoke, he frantically signaled with his eyes at the hand that Chen Xun was holding.

Chen Xun was momentarily confused, then excitedly filed his arms, "What is home? You're going home? Can I go home too?"

  Old Li's smile froze.

He thought to himself, this is not good!
