"COMING!" Jule hollered to the line of awaiting customers and beelined through them to fetch Aunt Donna's order. She presented her with another variety of jolly flowers for the kids party in school. "I think this would suit best for this occasion."
Mr. Felix and Mr. Andrew were here for the same reason. Their children were attending a school party arranged by the coordinance of parents and teachers.
"Thank you so much dear. These are perfect," Donna chirped, putting the glistening coins over the table and made her way out with a light wave of hand.
Jule lifted the bouquets of the same species, varying colours and offered them to the customers. Royal orchids were tropical flowers suited for lively occasions of such sort as they rejuvenate the backdrop, giving it a transcendent and enchanting vibe. Their colour ranges were blue, white, and orange. Jule loved this collection and had started working as a part-time teacher to afford their purchase and transport from half a country away.
Seeing off the final customers of the day, Jule stacked and counted her earnings, giving her shop a st gnce before she sealed the doors. As she did so, a sleek piece of paper flew and nded on the stairs.
Tilting her head, Jule realized it was an envelope. A handmade envelope. She pced her carryal in the basket of her bicycle, tracing her fingers over the parchment. Untying the tiny, cerulean bow that formed a knot over the apex, Jule pulled out an ivory-colored page. The words over it said,
Delivery of a slender bouquet of pink petalled roses to Mr. James. Location: On the keside bench in Oolong garden at six forty-five. Don't forget to say happy anniversary.
Thanks.
Jule stared at it with ludicrously wide eyes for a whole minute. To think she thought it was a love letter. Jule groaned, folding the page chaotically.
"What do you mean?? I don't do deliveries! Buy it yourself, James or Jumes or whoever-" Then she paused, finding the name familiar.
Was this letter written by the Uncle James? Who lived a neighborhood away from her and had helped her when she'd newly settled? During the first few weeks, Jule had been preoccupied with unboxing her stuff and preparing her shop so much that she'd barely have healthy meals. When James and his wife Madison came to know, they sent morning and evening meals for her through the errand boy since they themselves were very elderly. Jule was so thankful to them that every morning, she'd leave a bouquet of fresh flowers at their door.
Thinking about Uncle James now, in wait of these flowers, Jule couldn't help jumping on the bike with the said pink-petalled roses and pedalling away.
The clock struck six forty when she arrived at Oolong garden, rushing to the keside. As evening set in, fairy lights in the borders of the ke glowed up, their twinkles reflecting in the kewater. At this time of the evening, couples liked taking the benches.
Jule witnessed Uncle James leading his wife to one of the tables. The two began chattering. However as Jule neared them, she noticed beads of sweat forming on James' temple, a rather uneasy feeling overtaking him even though just a moment ago, he was rexed and jubint. Jule guessed he was likely growing doubtful regarding the flowers, so she fastened her pace. At their table, holding out the bouquet, Jule mustered a huge grin.
"Happy anniversary!"
"Oh my!" Madison uttered strings of surprise and gratitude to Jule and held James' hand dearly. "Lovio, this gesture is so sweet."
Mr. James on the other hand, appeared entirely startled. His curt nod, pinched smile and clueless expression confused Jule. He was the one to order them, and the time was about right too. Was she mistaken about something?
Mr. James informed Jule to wait for him beside the ke and when the elders were done with the meal, James came over. Racking her brain on what he might say, Jule barely stood straight when she noticed his huge grin.
"Jule, how great of a miracle!" He rejoiced, holding her hand. "How did you know?"
"About the anniversary?" she asked in reluctance.
"That I forgot to bring the flowers. How did you know?" he asked with raised brows, a smile resting on his aging features.
Jule paused for a brief second, interpreting this new chunk of information. Mr. James looking uneasy meant he'd forgotten to bring flowers? That meant he didn't order the delivery in the first pce. Infact, he knew nothing about it.
Then who ordered for the pink roses?
The questions swirled in her mind and she replied on a whim, "Oh, I just vaguely recalled you telling me about your anniversary date a while back. During the good old days, you and your wife had helped me so much. This was the least I could do. Gd I covered up your forgetfulness by chance as well."
Mr. James uttered a loud ugh and patted her back, thanking her ceaselessly. "You have no idea how grateful I am. You certainly made my day."
Jule smiled for another minute till he went away, waving her a goodbye. Afterwards, she turned on her heels and intensely squinted.
What in the gactic zone just happened?
