Chapter 15, "Pin"

While we're here, I might as well ask.

  “Edgar.”

“Have you gotten any requests on making custom pins?”

“The ones used in the guild?”

  I asked him lightly.

“No, no. We do same ol’ same ol’.”

“Swords, crossbows, helmets, chestplates… and more.”

“Well, that's what I've only been making.”

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

As Edgar finishes, Nel raised a hand.

“…I have made a custom pin.”

My eyes immediately turned to him.

  “How so, Nel?”

I took a sip of ale.

“A beautiful woman came to the smithy a few weeks ago! When I mean beautiful, I mean beautiful!”

  Nel's eyes sparkled.

Nel. You have rather low standards.

I wouldn't believe you if you said “beautiful.”

“Dad was kinda asleep, right? So, while I was doing my stuff at the shop, the lady came in for a custom order. Of course, I declined since we usually don't do custom orders with new customers.”

“However… she said she would pay a gold coin!”

“She said to make, umm… a replica of the guild pin.”

A singular pin, hm... why one… why not multiple pins?

  Possibly they were experimenting…

“My boy, that's illegal. The guild’s pins are special, you know.”

Edgar’s voice was tense as he put an arm on Nel’s shoulder.

“I probably would've done that too, for a gold coin.”

  He winks.

“It's a bad mistake, even if you were inexperienced.”

  He adds.

“However, currently, no blacksmith nor whitesmith will do that.”

“Over the years, the guild has been more strict and safer.”

“But, if it was back in the day, those special guild pins wouldn’t have been something.”

Edgar sighs before taking a swig.

“I can legally arrest you, Nel.”

  “No! Don't do that!”

  Nel yelled at me.

“I was only joking, of course. Just don't get swayed by money again.”

I chuckled slightly before taking a sip.

  “Yeah… I know…”
