Startled, Utan looked at him and said, “I am Utan. What, pray tell, is a hero?”
Confused, Fredric said, “Don’t you know, the hero is the one summoned from elsewhere to save the world from the demon king and his ilk.”
Utan, understanding said, “I apollogise, I cannot understand the language the naitives of this world speak. That you speak universal common at all is surprising.”
Fredric seemed even more confused at that statement, “What are you talking about, we’re speaking Central Galactic, like everyone else on this planet.”
Now it was Utan’s turn to be confused, “Central Galactic, like the language of the extinct Terran Human branch?”
“Extinct!? Terrans are the capital of the Universe. Especially after proving our might against the Xotarians.”
“The Xotarians never made it out of their home solar system. And even if they did, the Technomorphs would have hunted them down.”
Fredric was stunned, then seeming to rally his thoughts he said, “Do you know what sectar we are currently located in?”
Utan, understanding the plight he was in, decided not to give away to much information.
“I am currently isolated from any quantnum webs and most of my implants have been suppressed via unknown means.”
Fredric seemed to glean some insight from that statement however.
“That would likely be the gods interference of technology.”
Utan dismissed this instantly.
“Gods do not exist thus cannot cause true interference with technology. It is likely some type of solar or geological interference, the only issue with that theory is that any sufficiently advanced technology should be able to stop such interference.”
Fredric winced. “You shouldn’t say those kind of things. They don’t like disbelivers.”
Utan just shrugged. “To each their own, I suppose.”
Fredric sighed, then a new train of thought seemed to be remembered.
“How did you get here? I was told I was the only off-worlder here?”
“I- I don’t know” Utan said. “I have some memory loss.”
“Jeez man that sounds rough.”
A knock on the door interrupted the conversation.
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
Startled they both jumped and let the conversation drop.
Fredric said somthing in the language of the naitives.
Opening the door, a group of three humanoids stepped through.
The first was a tall preistly looking female with a staff adorned with a sunlike eye, the second was a lithe gnomelike woman with knives and daggers tied to her belt, the last one through was a lanky pionty eared man with a long walking stick.
While they were speaking together in their naitive tounge, Utan decided that it was indeed not Central Galactic.
Finnished with their conversation they turned their attention to Utan, the reactions were mixed.
the preistess looked hopefull, the elf, if that was indeed his race, looked sceptical, and the gnome, tempery designation, looked dismisive.
The elf asked Utan something, but because Utan couldn’t speak his language he said “I am sorry but I do not understand your naitive language, please wait until my aether self comes online and deciphers your naitive language that we may commune in full.”
Looking thoroughly stumped, the elf said somthing to the hero.
The hero in turn looked at Utan and said, “Would you be willing to become our porter, Utan?”
“Sure, I guess”
Upon reciving confirmation, Fredric said, “Then get some rest, we will be leaving tomorrow.”
The next day, they were walking towards some mountains in the distance.
On the way there they were being constantly harrased by small to large demonoids. However, they seemed to be more of a nuisance then an actual threat.
What was interesting, however, was the fact that the elf could spontaneously summon different elements and manipulate heat, while the preistess could accelerate healing.
At noon, they decided to stop for a meal. That night, they set up watch.
This continued for a week, with occasional stops at towns to resupply.
They stopped outside a pass one night and set up extra people for watch.
The following morning they entered the mountains. Climbing through the trail, they exited into a massive plate shaped valley.
At the far end of the valley, there stood a flaming humanoid demon with a crown of obsidian horns.
raising his hand in challange, the exits to the valley closed with a thundering bang.
While Utan watched, Fredric charged forward while the elf conjured a massive spear of ice.
In the chaos, the gnome dissapeared from sight. the human stood near the mage to heal any injuries.
Then the balance shifted, the demon grew. Now, suddenly ocupying at least half the valley, the demon conjured a massive whip of fire.
Sweeping it back and forth, it pushed the hero and his party back untill they were all cornered against the massive gates of stone covering the exit.
They all started yelling at each other.
Then the mage turned and started blasting the gate with all his might.
Fredric tried his best to distract the demon and ward off its blows.
The mage seeming to give up manipulated the earth under the hero’s feet to get him over the gate just before the demons whip struck the mage full on in the chest.
The healer was next, reciving a punch so hard it turned her into nothing more than a splatter on the ground.
The rogue was suddenly behind Utan and then, with a push, thew him towards the demon before climbing over the wall.
The demon, surprised at this turn of events, froze, Letting the rogue escape.
As for Utan, who was just flying through the air at the moment, the moment he hit the demon reality warped.
Then, as if it never were, the demon was it’s normal size and the flames went out.
Suddenly static filled Utan’s head. He felt srengthend for a moment.
Then, without warning, his own voice filled his head saying, “You sure got yourself into a mess, what happend?”
Unconsciously the memories of the last few months flashed by, with the voice once again speaking, “Okay, I think I understand the situation, I can probably get things back up and running within the next few years so just hold tight untill then okay.”
Then, without warning, the voice in his head stopped and he was left alone with his thoughts once more.
