I’m bored
To my right, there’s sand. To my left, there’s still sand. Of course, right in front of me is even more sand! Occasionally a snake or scorpion will pass me by but with the exception of the pink flower tipped round brown cactus there’s nothing really alive out here besides me. There doesn’t seem to be anything beyond the horizon except more sand. At least, just sand until I climb the dune in front of me.
“H-he…help…me.”
Azure fmes form a ring around two people. Ones wearing a thick white cloak covering every inch of its tall yet thin body as it towers over…something? In front of it something inhuman sits covered in cuts and dents. It has a human shape, except it has the head of a lizard and thick scaled hands, the scales forming an almost armor like pattern on its strangely smooth skin. Suddenly the wind kicks up, the fmes dancing stronger as they start to fade and flicker
Ring
The ntern shakes lightly as the robed figure looks up.
It’s not a robe!
Its skin splits open, a child made of quivering lights jumping out. It’s almost completely featureless except for the deep shadows that make its eyes and mouth. It grins, the tips of its mouth rising to where its ears should be. With a small dance it grabs the skin and puts it on like a cape, tying it inside its neck for its body to hold and never let go.
“BE GONE FAE!”
Suddenly the lizard man jumps at the thing while it;s distracted, stabbing at its neck with a dagger that came from seemingly nowhere!
Silence
Instantly the fmes and sand spiral threatening to take over the air itself disappear. Weakly the skin falls to the ground as the fae vanishes. At least it should’ve. That smile is still there, directly on the skin instead of the child like fae.
“............I sEeeeeeeeee yooUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuu……”
It’s gone?
Suddenly, it’s just more sand as far as the eye can see. Confused, the lizard man looks around, instantly focusing on me. Cautiously, he steps away, keeping a combat stance ready as he backsteps to a pile of broken wood. Still gring at me he tries to bend over to I think grab a pair of metal gauntlets from the pile only to fall over. He tries to let out a scream only to instead let out a small grunt and fall forward completely onto the pile. Silently, he looks to me then his burned and bleeding wounds, the cracks on his scales growing even worse after the fall. After a few seconds he manages to speak, passing out immediately after.
“Considering you haven’t attacked yet I should be safe. Follow the sun and go towards the town center, people should drag you to the nearest clinic once they see how hurt I am. Please…please oh hopefully kind stranger. Please take me to safety.”
What the hell just happened? Okay, wait is that thing really gone? Shit, do I even have the time to wait and see?
Panicking, I lift the lizard man up and start to walk towards the sun. Every few steps I struggle my best not to trip again as I prop him against my back. Heavy, so unbelievably heavy. Even so, my pace doesn’t slow. It seems after years of digging and now at least an hour of walking I’m certain now.
I can’t get physically tired.
If I want to, I can sleep and it’s possible to get headaches. It doesn’t look like I can feel pain except for headaches or whatever I might imagine. Definitely can’t eat considering I don’t have a mouth. Plus, my body is absurdly durable. Despite all that digging my fingers and hands look the same as before. So we continue, the sand eventually clotting the lizard mens messy but no longer bleeding cuts. Finally, right as the sun is about to set, I start to see a massive city just beyond the horizon.
Strange farms start to appear. The fields are surrounded by a wooden frame, the sand inside compact, rge trees separated by small metal poles twice their size, small tubes flow down the square grid pattern on each ptform holding them up, letting out a small spray of an unknown green liquid. Each field comes in groups of four ptforms with a rge well in the center, tens of more human looking lizard women gathered around sitting and talking.
It all appears to be a mix of almost steampunk and natural elements. The town itself appears more normal, taking ona grand middle eastern appearance with small things to make it stand out. All around the city itself appears to be a rge wooden ring in the sand, the same poles as the farm jetting out every few dozen steps rising from it. The buildings themselves take on a more square structure, seemingly made of the same sandstone as the paths between them. Despite the same sandy appearance there's a colorful liveliness to the city, the various anime hide and wool sprawled all across the walls around me as I pass by the equally colorfully clothed people. Due to it being the outskirts there is a certain amount of filth, the people acting especially cold seeing the bloodied lizard man im carry as if he was fine and just passing us bye. As we get closer to the center I notice it.
Everyone’s starting to look different?
In the outskirts the lizard folk all were either a kind of bipedal lizard wearing a lose, almost robe like garb or mostly human lookin with the exception of their eyes and teeth with seemingly random scale patterns with no in between. The people here are all a blend though. Some have human upper bodies and lizard lower bodies like some strange centaur or some are like the lizard man I’m holding up with a near human physique except for one or two lizard parts like the head, hands, or legs. No one seems to look exactly like each other, the only simirity being how the lizard aspects and human aspects exist together in some way.
As I’m looking around for a sign drawn to indicate a clinic the gibberish I’ve been hearing come out of peoples mouth starts to turn into words I can understand. The people around us do gnce but at most they say something along the lines of “He must be on the way to the clinic. He must really get hurt a lot for his golem to already know the way.” In fact, not knowing the way I stop a random stranger and ask her to guide me. At first she’s surprised but she does show is the way. As we walk I notice more how common the colors green and pink are, as well as how almost every single person is accompanied by some kind of golem, some humanoid and some modeled after animals.
Eventually we arrive at a clinic. The waiting room is retively small, capable of fitting at most ten people or maybe eight of those lizard centaur people. While the front is small and empty, the back looks rge and nearly full. At first the receptionist doesn’t pay much attention to the lizard man but as we get closer and she gets a better look at his clothes she starts to panic. He doesn’t seem to be wearing anything any different from the other people, the only real difference being a neckce with a thumb sized silver crow holding a twig on him.
Carefully her and two more grab him from me, what I think might be the doctor rushing to him as one of maybe the nurses rushes outside heading straight for the city center. Not understanding what’s happening, where I am, or what I can even do I take a seat and wait for the lizard man I saved to wake up hoping he’ll do me a favor when he sees me. The receptionist, seeing me sit down looks visibly shocked but goes back to ignoring me after a few more curious gnces. Suddenly, after a few minutes pass a lizard woman comes in screaming.
“What happened to my Moira! Where is he and is he safe!!!”
Moira? Is that the lizard man’s name? She looks almost the same as him, though shes smaller and thinner.
As i’m minding my business she stops to stare at me. Despite the lizard head I see an undeniable anger, like she’s ready to smash me to bits. Thankfully, the doctor takes her attention and guides her to the back. For another few minutes I’m completely ignored until one of the nurses comes out and walks in front of me.
“Will you please come with me, mister Moira would like to speak to you.”
“Ummmm, sure?”
Standing up I follow her and move to the back of the clinic, passing the lizard woman as I'm guided to a small room. She looks visibly defeated, even so she manages to spare me an especially intense gre. The second I walk in, the nurse closes the door gently, leaving only me and Moira.
He's covered in wet bandages. Despite how they look they seem to be wrapped on especially tight, the smaller cuts on his body gone and a lot of the cracks on his scales almost completely healed. Looking at him again I realize how truly inhuman he is. Despite standing on two legs and near completely human proportions his gargantuan hands and sharp cws show a fearsome predator. Instead of skin he has scales, his muscles clear and toned. The biggest indicator is his lizard head. Sharp and beady yellow eyes with thick and sharp teeth.
“So…ummm…can you please tell my mother that I was ambushed by a wild antarath while testing my golems. She’s already scared enough. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee. Oh! And thank you for saving me, can you please tell me how exactly your golem functions?”
I take it back he’s not scary. He’s just a weirdly shaped kid who can kill me really really easily
