I decided to y with Lake for a few minutes, before getting up. I might've gotten up too fast though, because my head was hurting for a brief moment, and I thought I saw little static particles. Wait... static? That gives me an idea. Heh. Suddenly, I felt some weight on the side of my leg. It was Lake rubbing his head against me. I gave him a few head pats, then decided to get to work. This is likely going to be less complicated than the Nitrofrost Mall.
{Select: Create New Level}
The entirety of the Nitrofrost Mall vanished, repced by a bck void, simir to the one I started with at the beginning. Is the Nitrofrost Mall still there...? I hope so. Actually, can't I just check? Yeah, I can probably do that.
{Transport: Level 0 - Nitrofrost Mall}
{WARNING: BY TRANSPORTING YOURSELF, YOU WILL ABANDONED THIS UNSAVED LEVEL. ARE YOU SURE?}
I... guess I won't check then. But that should, at least, confirm that it's still there. Anyways, back to work. I decide not to transport myself and instead focus on the current level. First, I need some sort of ground. I can't just have people walking on air... or can I? That could be filed away for a future idea. Regardless, the floor.
{Create: Ground | Texture: Brown Mulch}
An endless expanse of ft, brown mulch appeared all around me and under my feet. It seemed to go off into the distance. I'm likely going to have to find something if I want to pce trees properly and not have them suddenly end at one point... I'll figure it out ter. Anyways, I could probably throw some rocks around. Which comes back to the idea of it suddenly ending at a certain distance. I guess I have to do this now... hmm... here.
{Modify: Ground (Brown Mulch) | Growth: Small Stone Rocks (Sparse)}
As I executed the command, small rocks of stone sprouted across the mulch in a scattered and sparse manner. Some rocks were near each other and others were farther. There wasn't a rge number of rocks in a small area. I moved on to one of the more interesting parts.
{Modify: Sky | Texture: CRT Screen (Old/Night)}
The sky turned into a cssic night sky, with a CRT overy. The night sky wavered with small, barely seeable lines, being unrealistic enough to be just that little bit unsettling. The glow of the stars flickered unevenly, dispying its oddities. The entire sky seemed as if it was a smeared canvas painting. I felt satisfied, at least with the sky. I decided to add something extra, though.
{Modify: Sky | Sound: Static | Volume: Very Low}
I decided to ask Lake what he thinks about the sky, "Lake, do you think the sky looks good?" Lake gave a bark of approval, "Bark!" Seeing as I had some overflowing energy, I asked Lake about walking around, "Lake, do you want to wal-" Lake was already walking ahead of me. He gave me a look as if to say, "Let's go together, come on." I guess some things about dogs never change.
I walked with Lake through the level that's a work in progress. Just walking through the level, mulch and stones on the ground crunching against my winter boots (that I still haven't taken off), and the quiet crackling sound in the air, it felt nice. Sometimes, you just need to take breaks. Maybe I might be taking too much, but it doesn't matter.
I decided to add the trees while we were walking. I already had an interesting idea in mind, based on the theme I was going for in this (supposed to be) forest.
{Create: Tree (Custom)}
{DESIGN TREE}
'The tree will be a gnarled mess of thick, bck magnetic tape. The kind that comes out of broken VHS tapes, but thicker. It will have an incredibly rge number of branches which are spread out across the tree and the other branches. The branches from the upper half of the tree should go in an arc, first going up, then down.'
{DESIGN NAME}
'I already have the perfect name... Filmstrip Tree'
{TREE - FILMSTRIP TREE | CREATED}
'And now, to spread the trees.'
{Modify: Ground (Brown Mulch) | Growth: Filmstrip Trees (Abundant)}
The tree I created moment earlier sprouted everywhere around us, and one even popped right in front of me as I was walking. I decided to give it a touch. It felt like wrapped tape that was light, slick, and slightly staticky. Lake just gave me a cursory gnce, then came to sit by my feet.
I went to sit down against the Filmstrip Tree, my ass on the ground and my back against the tree. While I id beside the tree, static clinging to my clothes, Lake came up to me and id down, his head on my stretched-out legs. We sat there for a bit, rexing with the static from the sky as white noise.
When I came to consciousness with Lake licking my face, I realized I had fallen asleep. After petting Lake and giving him a hug, I decided to get back to working on the level. I went over a mental checklist, seeing if I needed anything else. I had the CRT sky, the static sound from the sky, the Filmstrip Trees, the ground of mulch with the scattered rocks... ah. I needed an entity.
{Create: Entity 002}
{DESIGN APPEARANCE}
‘The entity is a tall, bck humanoid figure with nky limbs. They have no mouth or nose. They have two small eyes shaped like spheres, both eyes appearing as static from an old CRT tv.’
{DESIGN BEHAVIOR}
’The entity likes to stalk any creature that appears in its field of view. Upon encountering its own kind, it will move to find another area to stalk creatures. If it is looked at directly and the creature acknowledges that the entity is there, it will emit a sharp screech, fill the creature’s vision with static for a few seconds, then disappear in a puff of static particles.’
{DESIGN NAME}
’Static Stalker’
{ENTITY 002 - STATIC STALKER | CREATED}
{Modify: Level | Entity Spawn: Static Stalker | Rarity: **}
I currently can’t see any of them, but I’ll assume it’s working. I’m going to have to fix the Nitrofrost Wisps, though. Anyways, saving the level.
{Save}
{INPUT LEVEL NAME}
’Analog Forest’
{INPUT LEVEL NUMBER}
’1’
{LEVEL SAVED: #1 - Analog Forest}
I’ll have to go back to Nitrofrost Mall, now.
