Chapter 1: Desperate Ivan

Detective Bishop Flamme knew something was troubling the De Lucas, his new neighbors since his former neighbor Jean Teach had passed away. Ivan had already briefly mentioned Dario to him, but Bishop wanted some rest. Inside the de Luca residence, Ivan received terrible news about his brother Dario being on the run from both law enforcement and the Italian mob. The local Miami Italian mobsters once hired Dario as an enforcer but lately they haven’t received any word about his whereabouts. Ivan received a cryptic call from Dario, later in the day.

“Hello brother are you alone?” asked Dario.

Dario was purposely trying to disguise his voice on the other end, Ivan’s entire reason for heading to the United States with his wife Gloria was to find his brother Dario.

“Dario is that you, it’s been ages since we spoke to each other, why does your voice sound different?” asked Ivan.

Ivan grew increasingly skeptical about what his brother was doing, Dario purposely didn’t want to say that much.

“Let’s just say, I work for a different set of mobsters, the more of the national intelligence kind,” said Dario.

Miami was a hotbed of anti-Communist activities since many Cuban nationals also lived in Miami with a number of other refugees from Communist countries. Ivan could see why the Cuban anti-Communists could become competitors of Dario’s former employees.

“Look, Dario you can still do the right thing and walk away from both groups,” said Ivan.

“Sorry, they have better pay,” said Dario.

Dario soon hung up much to his disappointment, Ivan then began to cry over his brother’s amoral behavior. The cry woke Bishop from his nap; he could sense that Ivan wasn’t pleased with something.

“Better go check on my new neighbors,” said Bishop.

Bishop softly knocked on the door, and soon Ivan opened up. Ivan was drinking what appeared to be wine as a way to cope with Dario’s behavior.

“That’s not but the least healthy,” said Bishop.

“It’s my brother, he called, but he purposely disguised his voice from me,” said Ivan.

Bishop felt obligated since the De Lucas were now occupying Jean Teach’s former pad, he felt compelled to help them.

“I’ll make sure your brother will be okay,” said Bishop.

Ivan stopped drinking from his glass, he could see that Bishop was doing his best trying to be sincere.

“I hope you succeed; the local police have been no help to us in tracking him down,” said Ivan.

“You have my word as a friend,” said Bishop.

It would be sometime before Gloria would come home with the groceries for her husband, Bishop decided it was time to head out. He knew that Martin Hornigold knew more about the local crime syndicates in Miami. He had a run in with Martin over him hiring members of Alfred Jackman’s gang. As Bishop drove off, he got the sense he was following the footsteps of his mentor Detective Harold Teach. Even if he physically never met him, he met him literally in his dreams in the spiritual world.

“Ah yes, don’t you worry Detective Harold Teach, I will not let you down” said Bishop as he gazed at the mirror.

It was as if Harold was in the back seat of his car watching him as he drove. Bishop knew he would have his hands full once he arrived at the club.
