"You have to help me," Allie began to worry, "Lilah"
She turned to her best friend of ten years. She knew her brother wouldn't help in the right way.
"You expect me to help a giant meerkat?!" Lilah asked.
"I'm not a meerkat, I'm your best friend!" Allie stated.
"Not anymore" Lilah replied.
"What?" Allie was shocked at this.
"Our friendship's over," Lilah said, walking out, "I'm not hanging out with a meerkat. Join a circus or something"
Allie was utterly devastated at this. She now had no choice but to turn to CJ, who had gathered a koala print sleeping bag, some gloves, a lion mask and a hat.
"What're those for?" Allie asked him.
"It's a disguise" CJ told her.
"I am not wearing a sleeping bag" Allie stated.
"It's that or be noticed as a life-size meerkat" CJ argued.
"Fine" She said, grabbing the items and throwing them over herself.
The twins began walking out when the shop attendant stopped them.
"You need to pay for those" She told them.
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
"Sure" Allie said, reaching into her pockets but gloves with her meerkat hands weren't easy to pick out the money.
"Here, lady" CJ said, handing the assitant his birthday money their grandma had sent them.
They walked up to their parents, who were back at the meerkat cage.
"Where's Lilah?" Max asked his children.
"She had to go home" CJ lied.
"I see you spent Grandma's birthday money" Bonni said, looking at Allie.
"Yeah," Allie also lied, "They were just screaming at me to buy them"
"So, what's up next on the list?" Max asked.
"All-" CJ started, looking at the list.
"Home," Allie cut him off, "It's finished"
CJ frowned at this but their parents accepted their decision and drove back home. When they walked in the door, Allie and CJ ran upstairs to Allie's room. Allie slumped down on her bed.
"Some best friend she was" She said, taking off the lion mask.
"That's not important, sis" CJ told her.
"Not for you maybe" Allie retorted.
"Hello, you are a meerkat!" CJ reminded his sister.
"You think I've forgotten?!" Allie yelled, pulling her tail out from behind her.
"We have to go back" CJ blurted out.
"Not the time, CJ" Allie told him.
"Tonight is, though," CJ explained, coming up with his first bright idea, "When it closes. We sneak into the zoo, find out what happened and change you back!"
"And until then, how do I avoid Mum and Dad seeing me like this?! Huh?!" Allie screamed at him, "I can't keep wearing this!"
"You don't" CJ replied, coming up with another possibly smart idea.
He walked over to the door and stuck his head out.
"Mum, Dad, Allie and I are really tired, we think we'll skip tea and head straight to bed!" He yelled out.
Okay, maybe not as bright as it could have been. Until six 'o' clock that night, the twins used whatever they could find to disguise as themselves in their beds. CJ used one of his giant Pokemon plushies and Allie used what they'd bought at the gift shop, along with a huge teddy bear, At six 'o' clock, they both climbed out of Allie's window, sliding down the pipe. By the time they arrived at the zoo, it was half-past nine.
"Ready, sis?" CJ asked Allie.
"Not really" Allie replied.
"Bad luck" CJ said.
They were lucky they were both skinny. Allie even more now she was a meerkat. They easily slid through the bars of the zoo's gate.
