Chapter 4: Initial Exploration of Martial Arts

The sun slowly rose, and on the small square of the dwarf village, thirty or forty short figures stood upright. These were the future hopes of the dwarves - the children of the dwarves!

Although Im only ten years old, my height is much higher than other kids. My height has already reached around 160 cm, while the other short-statured children havent even exceeded one meter. In the dwarf tribe, Ive become the tallest one!

The elder of the dwarf tribe, also the village chief of the dwarf village, stood in front of us with a serious face. The only thing that proved he was over 90 years old was his white beard!

With a wave of the heavy and large double-bladed axe in his hand, the patriarch grandpa said sternly: "We dwarves are born to be warriors, so... from today on, I will teach you all the combat skills that a warrior should master. In the near future... the responsibility of protecting the dwarf tribe will fall on your shoulders!"

With a stern glance around, the elder continued: "We dwarves dont have lazy children, nor do we have children who cant bear hardship. I wont say more about that. I only have one requirement, which is that you cannot leave the village on your own after learning some skills. Without my permission, no one is allowed to go out!"

  Yes!

Dozens of children shouted in unison, every child was extremely excited to be able to come into contact with and learn the warriors skills, after that... when they become a real warrior, they can go out of the village and see the colorful world outside!

Im holding a wooden axe specially made for kids, and Im studying diligently with Dwarf Grandpa. The whole day, except for eating, were all learning axe skills!

Although the wooden axe is not as heavy as the cast iron axe, its still too heavy for us kids in our teens, especially after swinging it all day, that kind of pain is unbearable!

When I returned to the small cottage that the dwarves had specially built for me in the evening, both of my arms were swollen and aching with a piercing pain that was like a wave crashing against me. Thinking back on how carefree the other children looked, I finally confirmed that the dwarves suitability as warriors was not just due to their external training, but also had something to do with their physical constitution.

But... I will never admit defeat. In my dictionary, there is no word "defeat". When I was on Earth, I had never lost to anyone, so how could I possibly admit defeat at this time?

Lying in bed, I kept thinking back, thinking about everything that the tribal elder grandfather taught us, but... After pondering for half a night, I still couldnt figure out the key to it.

Actually... the dwarves axe skills are nothing more than chopping and hacking, their movements are mostly extracting common daily actions and then reasonably combining them, exerting purely physical strength!

But... is this martial art really that powerful? Thinking back to the "Hundred Battles Knife Technique" book I bought on Earth, comparing the two with my own judgment, the difference between them can be said to be as far apart as heaven and earth!

The Bǎi Zhàn Dāo Fǎ also emphasizes power and chopping, but... unlike the dwarven axe techniques blind chopping, the Bǎi Zhàn Dāo Fǎ places more emphasis on choosing the point of impact!

The dwarves axe technique has no skill to speak of, completely relying on their powerful strength, chopping back all the enemys counterattacks, a typical strong collision battle method!

But the Hundred Wars Swordsmanship is completely different, emphasizing the scientificity, rationality and continuity of force release, using the shortest route, the most direct attack, to exert ones strongest attack, and attacking the enemys strongest but also weakest point!

The Hundred Battles Sword Technique has no thrusts, no sweeps; all its attacks can be summed up in one word: slash! Different angles, different directions, continuous sword releases, one sword after another, without defense, without retreat, without pause, constantly slashing down with great power, accuracy, science, and reason, each slash landing on the enemys most vulnerable spot where they are least able to counterattack. This is the Hundred Battles Sword Technique!

Right before my eyes, a swift replay of the clan leaders grandfathers diagonal chop today, although Im sure I wont be able to catch up... however... as long as I find his most vulnerable spot and quickly and accurately hit that spot, the clan leaders axe will surely return in vain!

Someone once said, give me a fulcrum and I can lift the entire earth. This is not an exaggeration at all, its just that...its impossible to provide him with such a fulcrum. Even if there really was such a fulcrum, it would be impossible to have a lever that long. However, the principle he spoke of is absolutely correct, and this principle is the principle of levers.

As long as you find that point, even with a very small force, you can make the attack of thousands of kilograms return without attacking. Through scientific education, I clearly know that using brute force is absolutely impossible, and four ounces moving a thousand kilograms is not a myth!

The Bǎi Zhàn Dāo Fǎ is not just a knife method that emphasizes technique and science, but neglects strength. Rather, it is both equally important, requiring both powerful strength and sharp wit, neither of which can be lacking!

I got so excited that I couldnt lie down anymore, got down to the ground, picked up the axe by my bed and started practicing according to the diagram and incantation of the Hundred Battles Sword Technique! For a while... the whole house was filled with whistling wind sounds!

Ten minutes later, I sat back on the bed in disappointment. The knife technique wasnt something that could be performed with a clumsy and heavy axe. Only with a suitable knife can the characteristics of the Hundred Battles Knife Technique be fully displayed!

The Bǎi Zhàn Dāo Fǎ (Hundred Battles Sword Technique) not only pushes human qualities to the extreme, such as strength, agility, intelligence, reaction, and judgment... but also takes the application of the sword to the extreme. Every part of the sword has its unique function, and many techniques are executed relying on the special structure of the sword. Now, this short and clumsy axe is absolutely not suitable!

Lying in bed in despair, it seems... I must have a knife of my own. However... the dwarves have an unwritten rule that they absolutely will not forge any weapons for their own kind, as that would be the greatest insult to the dwarves. In other words... if I want a knife that I like, I only have one way to do it: quickly train my arm strength and when I have enough power, forge a knife of my dreams myself!

Lying in bed, looking up at the green roof, Im only ten years old now, still a child to humans, and theres still a long way to go before growing up!

But... I want to grow up as soon as possible, at least in terms of strength. I know that in this world, without strength, nothing can be done, not even going out is possible. Strength is what I yearn for the most right now!

Looking back on the scene when I was in college, at that time, the schools basketball team had specially made sand vests and sand guards for everyone to increase their physical strength. So... can I also get a set to wear?

With this idea, I gradually fell asleep. The next morning, I found Aunt Manya next door and she quickly agreed to make me a vest like the one I drew! Moreover, she told me that she had several pieces of sable fur left over, just enough for a suit!

After learning that I could do it tomorrow morning, I left Grandma Marujas house and headed to the small square where we were gathering, still carrying in my hand that heavy wooden axe!

As I passed by Uncle Riveras forge, I saw the water dipper used to temper the fire next to it. On a whim, I submerged the large wooden axe head entirely in it. Generally speaking, wood becomes more than twice as heavy after being soaked in water!

Ten minutes later, I gently pulled out the axe, and indeed... the axe had become much heavier. Unfortunately, due to the short soaking time, the added weight was still a bit less than expected, not reaching my ideal!

Just as I was frowning, Uncle Rivado came out of the house and saw me holding a wet wooden axe, thinking that I had accidentally gotten it wet. He enthusiastically opened his mouth and said: "Come on... give me the axe, Ill help you dry it!"

Smiling and raising my head, I calmly said to Uncle Rivado: "Thank you, Uncle Rivado. Im not having trouble because the axe is wet, I just want to make it sharper!"

Uncle Rivado was taken aback at first, but immediately understood my idea. Without saying a word, he took the wooden axe from me and soaked it in water for a while before walking into the smelting workshop next door and quickly throwing the axe into the furnace filled with molten iron!

The next moment... Lao Li quickly moved, picked up the nearby wooden tongs, swiftly clamped the axe in the iron water, and quickly lifted it out. With a flick of his wrist, he threw it into the water bucket on the side. After a burst of white steam, Lao Li didnt fear the heat, and simply reached out to scoop up the axe.

Its no longer a wooden axe head, the wood outside has been soaked in a thick layer of iron water, the whole axe is at least twice as heavy, and its no longer light and fluttering. I tried swinging it a couple of times, what a waste of effort!

  Dong! Dong! Dong......

Dizzy... The bell for the clan elders gathering rang, Im probably the only one left, so I quickly thanked Rivardo and rushed to the playground.
