Chapter 34) Opening a cursed book

  I feel bored.

I’m floating in an ocean right now, but it isn’t as fun as I thought.

Things keep hitting me, and it isn’t that clean.

Granting little me’s wish was kind of fun.

I could do that for someone else.

  Maybe Serne?

I’ll see what he’s up to.

Serne’s journey into the thousands of years old ancient city was perilous.

There weren’t any hostile creatures, but the architecture was incredibly dangerous.

He was constantly at risk of being buried under rubble or trapped behind a stone door.

  But now he’s here.

At the center of the ruins.

Where the booked of cursed souls resides.

He is honestly terrified of the book, but he was reassured by the commander and mages that he would be fine.

As he puts his hand on the book, it just looks normal, but he won’t take any chances with reading it.

He quickly puts it in the container he received for this mission, then puts it in his storage ring.

Why doesn’t he put it in the bark? He’s worried that the bark would have some adverse effects.

As he walks towards an exit, he sees a strange creature shifting creature in the air.

  “Hey” it says.

As I look at Serne and his new gear and outfit, I say “hey.”

He then looks at me and says with a tired look, “what are you?”

  “What?” I ask.

  Why doesn’t he recognize me?

I guess because I’m not in my body.

I quickly bring my soulless body to us and then slip in.

“Asterios?” he asks confused, “was that you? The real you?”

What does he mean by real me?

“What do you mean by real me?” I ask while crossing my arms.

“What you truly are? That shifting form?”

Is my outside view the real me?

I can exist without any of my bodies, so I guess probably.

The queen priestess referenced how souls or spirits can’t do that.

Maybe my soul is really powerful? Maybe I don’t have a soul and embody the will of the universe or something?

  I respond, “I guess? Probably?”

“Why do you look like this then?” he gestures at me, “you look more like a god in that form.”

I reply “I like to have a body, it’s fun to physically interact with things.”

That and I like to just pretend to be a semi-normal person.

“Okay” Serne responds, and then continues walking in the direction he was going.

I should probably take away my ethereal form, just so that nobody can see me when I don’t want them to. I’d rather not forget.

I quickly take myself out of my body, and then shift my ethereal form so that it’s normal once again.

Then I enter my body and follow after Serne.

“Serne!” I yell, “do you want a wish?”

He turns his head towards me and asks, “what do you mean? You grant me a wish?”

“Yes” I reply, “you ask for something and I give it to you if it’s possible.”

He thinks for a moment and then asks, “can I ask for it ter once I’ve thought of it?”

  I respond, “yes!”

Then I take a look at him and ask, “what’s that outfit you got on?”

He replies, “the clothes that they gave me are meant to be practical, they’re enchanted I think. Prevents tripping or simir things.”

  Interesting.

“Can I test them?” I ask.

He looks at me confused, then sighs.

Wonder why he seems so tired?

Maybe because he’s searched for a cursed artifact?

Did he not find it? I don’t see it.

Maybe he put it in the bark?

I check the bark and find no artifacts, he hasn’t made anything new.

The only thing in the bark is a castle I made when I showed him how it worked.

What was I thinking about a moment ago?

Oh yeah, I want to test his clothes, see if he can be pushed over.

“Can I test your clothes?” I ask.

He sighs again, looks at me and says “do you want to see the artifact that I got?”

He actually found the artifact? I wonder where he put it.

“Sure” I respond, “where is it?”

“Here” he says while a book appears in his hand.

While looking at it, it gives me a bit of a headache.

I use my outside view to look at it, and hear a bunch of whispers.

The whispers are simir to the ones I heard when my body was healing all those years ago.

Haven’t really paid attention to them much.

I project immune to insanity causing artifacts onto my own body.

My headache clears up, and then I grab the book, opening it the the first page

  “No” Serne yells.

  It’s too te.

On the first page are a bunch of strange drawings and symbols, they shift and almost come off the page.

  It’s almost a hologram, but it’s not.

  It’s just confusing.

I close the book and hand it back to Serne while he just stares.

“What?” he asks while making the book disappear again.

“It was confusing” I say while looking at him.

He just shakes his head and continues walking, with me following beside him.
