Chapter 41) “Board” cultists

As I look throughout the city, I find a group of cultists.

They don’t seem super serious about the cult thing, they seem to be doing it for fun.

They are teenagers and some adults.

It seems to be the house of someone and they allow their siblings friends to have this little sleepover cult get together thing.

  It’s heartwarming.

Makes me kind of miss my family, both the one of Aster, and the one of my past life.

But you know, for some reason it’s not super intense.

Maybe It’s more me not having processed it still after all this time, or maybe I left all my sentimentality in Aster?

Whatever, this time, I won’t interfere in the cult.

  I’ll only observe.

They are chatting and bring out something like a ouija board.

One of them starts to use it, spelling out words slowly.

It appears they are trying to contact me.

  Should I oblige them?

  Yeah I should!

Wait, should I try to make a new appearance, something more ghostly?

Well, they aren’t trying to summon me in physicality, just trying to communicate.

Can I move the little piece of wood?

Well, I can push people over, so this shouldn’t be a problem.

  I’ll answer the next question.

A girl asks, “why have you given the world the gift of eternal life?”

How do they know that I gave them eternal life?

What if I just made it so that they die at a maximum age?

  I guess it’s a logical guess.

I form my invisible form into something resembling my Asterios body, and push the wood along, spelling out a sentence.

  Because

  I

  Granted

  A

  Home

  Wait no.

  A typo!

You may be wondering why a typo changed wish to home, and maybe even figured it out as you read this.

Obviously their language isn’t english, so of course this typo wouldn’t look like an english typo.

Silly person who is reading this.

I search for a backspace of delete key, but there appears to be none!

Oh no, miscommunication between a god and some cultists!

Should I add a backspace key?

But that would defeat the whole purpose of not just talking directly to them.

I guess I’ll just respell wish.

  Wish

Now I basically told them, Because I granted a home wish.

They can probably figure out it is a typo.

Why are they moving it to goodbye?!

Do they not want to talk to me?

Or is it that thing that the use of ouija boards usually depend on.

Someone who I’ll call wolf one exclaims, “it truly felt like someone was trying to contact us!”

Wolf 2 asks, “do you really think we summoned it?”

Wolf 3 who is seemingly more rational answers, “definitely not, even if such a person or thing exists, why would they answer just us? And also, what is a home wish?” They take a breath while adjusting their shirt, “It’s all nonsense.”

Wolf 1 snorts, “we can’t be hurt, can’t die, and you still doubt?”

Wolf 3 responds, “doubt what? We don’t even know what we’re believing in. A god? A spirit? Death itself?”

Wolf 2 responds, “I think it’s the will of the universe, we are obviously being rewarded for overcoming difficulties!”

The older brother wolf, or wolf 4, responds, “It said Because I granted a home wish. Home and wish are spelt so similarly, that it could have been a typo.”

Wolf 2 responds “so they granted a wish?”

Looks like they figured it out!

Well, I did try to tell them, so this makes sense.

  What should I do now?

I gave them their answer that they sought, so I have nothing to do but watch.

Watching can be fun, but these guys are just debating things that I already know.

  I could… grow corn?

No, that is not a very creative idea.

I mean, even if I tried, I doubt that they have modern earth corn!

Corn was cultivated on earth, here other plants would have been cultivated.

Now that Aster is a competent child, I could recombine my selves.

I could learn all that he knows, while continuing to be myself.

But what if people discover me?

Then that part of me might be sad.

I don’t want him to cry!

Don’t worry little me, I won’t let anyone catch onto us.

  I could just brainstorm ideas?

  This is kind of fun.

But if I spend all the time thinking, will my mind explode?

  Maybe I need a break?

Maybe I decorate one of my collective buildings?

Yes, a great idea! Thanks myself.

I spend the next few minutes decorating, it’s really easy when I can just ignore necessities and get only cool things that look good.

It’s not very aesthetically pleasing, but it’s mine and I decorated it.

I suppose I don’t have the best sense of beauty.

One thing that I’m particularly happy that I made is a mannequin thing that’s shaped like Serne.

It’s kind of creepy I guess, but he’ll never find it.

And besides, it’s mostly as a punching bag, not anything weird!

I made a bed as well, it is super ugly.

  But, it’s soooooooooooooooo comfortable.

It makes me want to sleep so much!

  But first, I should change.

I quickly change out of my clothes into just my underwear.

I hop onto the bed and moan at how absurdly comfortable it is.

It may be the ugliest bed I’ve ever seen, but it is the most comfortable I’ve ever felt.

But, this bed is missing something.

  Hmmm…

  Maybe something to hold?

Yes, like a pillow or blanket or something similar.

The punching bag could probably function as a pillow.

  My arms are lonely.

I move the punching bag into my arms, wrapping pillow Serne’s arm’s around me.

  It feels so nice.

  Time to sleep.

What is the relationship between Serne and Asterios?
