Chapter 6: The Latent Darkness

  Verna felt annoyed.

As a half-dark elf, Verna has done a lot to gain her current status. She relied on the power of dark elves, gathered those bear goblins and half-orcs, and with her own strength and ruthlessness in the north, she gained a considerable reputation. For a homeless, family-less dark elf, Verna thought no one could do better than herself.

When she took on the task of exploring the ruins deep in the mine tunnels as requested by the dwarves, Verna knew her chance had come. As long as she could complete this task, she would be able to successfully take root in Brandon Stone City. By then, she would have a way to slowly climb to the highest position and rule the city.

  Even the entire Northland.

Verna didnt care about the dangers in the mine tunnels mentioned by the gray dwarves. In her opinion, these lowly creatures were just trying to make it easier for themselves to retreat. However, as a woman with dark elf blood flowing through her veins, she chose to face the challenges head-on. She had made sufficient preparations and was deeply convinced that she would succeed.

Its precisely because of this that Verna didnt have the slightest bit of good feeling towards this necromancer who suddenly joined her team and his subordinates. She even suspected that the dwarf had long since guessed at her own ambition, and was intentionally finding trouble for herself by bringing in the necromancer. Its also precisely because of this that Verna obviously didnt have any good feelings towards these two uninvited guests.

"Remember your status! Youre just a lowly man!!"

Verna stamped her foot heavily, the metal-studded high-heeled boots making a loud noise on the ground. She stood with her arms crossed, looking at Jann and the noble girl standing beside him with disdainful eyes, both of whom were wrapped in black robes from head to toe.

"Dont think that just because youre a wizard, youre above everything. Since you asked to join my team and act with us, then you must listen to my orders! I know youre a wizard, but I can guarantee that if you dont listen to my orders, or even cause trouble for me, my sword will pierce your throat just as quickly as you can cast a spell!"

Upon hearing Vernas furious threat, Janne said nothing. Instead, Enyo slightly furrowed her brow and then elegantly slid forward half a step - looking just as if she were inviting a dance partner at a ball.

"I wish you would retract your insulting remarks about our master, beautiful half-breed dark elf lady."

Enya gazed quietly at the purple pupils, unknowingly emphasizing the word "mixed-blood".

"We only came here at the invitation of the Grey Dwarves, and if we didnt have a common purpose, there would be no need for us to travel together. I hope you understand this deeply."

  "You..."

Upon hearing Enyos words, Verna was almost driven mad. If this were in the city of dark elves, whoever dared to speak to her like that would have been tortured to death by the dark elves. Unfortunately, this wasnt a city of dark elves, and Enyos pale, slightly cyanic skin clearly warned her that the true identity of the noble girl before her eyes was not what it seemed.

  Undead creature.

Through the Dark Elfs special vision, Verna can see the light representing life temperature emitted from Jains body. That is proof of a living person. However, on this girl in front of her, she cannot see anything similar. If not converted to ordinary visual mode, Verna would only think that what was in front of her was a stone or something else.

Vernas knowledge warned her that any undead creature with intelligence comparable to that of the living was a formidable enemy. Even Baroness Balensa had to show some respect for those walking corpses. She could be certain that her sword would pierce the girls slender throat in the next instant, but she also had no doubt that her opponent would simultaneously tear open her own chest.

Who will truly die at that time is an answer that is almost within reach.

Finally, Verna chose to leave. She stomped her foot in anger and then turned around and walked away with big strides. After confirming that the other party had compromised, Enya brought a calm smile back to Jans side.

  "You shouldnt tease her."

Jen, who had been silently watching the whole drama unfold beside him, finally spoke up. Enoas loyalty to him made her unable to tolerate anyone mocking or insulting Jen. Jen was certain that if Verna dared say another word, her heart would now be in Enoas hands.

At this point, Enyo has a very strong persistence. She has shown the courage of undead creatures who do not know fear more than once. Not only in front of Verena, but also in the demon world, even when facing those powerful demons, she never backs down.

Zhan En remembered very clearly that once his sister came to find him, but Zhan En was busy conducting an experiment at the time and couldnt be disturbed in the slightest. So Enoya used all her strength to block Vivian at the door, even if she was beaten by the furious half-dragon girl until her limbs were broken, she didnt show any fear or intention of retreating.

In the end, even Vivian was terrified by Enyos persistence and was dragged away by Nabellius who had rushed to the scene. From then on, no one dared to underestimate the undead girl summoned by Jain again.

Only Zane knew that the connection between him and Enyo was far deeper than they had imagined.

"In the dimly lit basement, an interesting toy can be used to kill time, master."

Facing Zhan Ens words, Enya blinked her eyes coquettishly.

"And I think youve already seen it too."

  "Yes... Thats right..."

As he heard Enyos words, Zhan nodded and stretched out his hand to push his glasses, then looked at Verna who was standing in front of the team, waving her whip and shouting loudly. A gleam of light flashed across the lens.

Vernas furious display in front of Jain wasnt just about maintaining her own prestige and status, but also out of fear. As a demon, Jain could sense that the dark elfs body flowed with the same blood that burned with dark flames.

That is the bloodline of the Demon Clan.

This was the reason for Vernas restlessness in front of Jenn. Because the other half of her bloodline was instinctively reminding that dark elf, standing in front of her was a demon clan, and it was a royal family. In the demon clans strict and hierarchical society, nothing was more important than this.

Even if Zan just stood in front of Verna and did nothing, this half-blood dark elf would instinctively feel fear, she would want to kneel in front of Zan, eager to show submission - this is what a demon should do when facing a noble bloodline.

However, Verna was clearly unfamiliar with this, and it was precisely because of this that she felt frightened by this sudden fear. Moreover, from her expression, Zane could guess that Verna probably didnt even know that she had the blood of a demon flowing through her veins. Otherwise, she would have been able to see her own identity at first glance. After all, in the dark underground world, only demons were eternal and supreme rulers.

"It seems she doesnt even know her own origins."

Zhan En muttered to himself, while Enoya nodded beside him. In those years in the Demon Realm, Zhan En had learned a great deal of knowledge. Although his power was not enough to use powerful magic, the power of knowledge was never limited to just combat.

In fact, Jain had already guessed how Verna was born. For the dark elves, the demon tribe is their supreme ruler and ruler, and all dark elves are subject to a demon king named Rose in the demon world.

In order to gain the power and blessings of the demon tribe, the dark elves would occasionally hold rituals to summon powerful demons from the demon world to their side, and offer their own bodies to form an alliance with them. And in such rituals, sometimes children with mixed demonic blood would be born.

And Vernia is obviously one of them.

What piqued Zanes curiosity, however, was that dark elves born of mixed blood with the demon tribe generally possessed a rather high status. Dark elves like Verna who had been exiled were rare; what exactly had she done to make even her own bloodline unable to protect this poor wretch?

Zhan En suddenly found himself very interested in this.

This will perhaps leave a brilliant stroke in his record.

Verna was unaware that she had become Jahns "study material". At this moment, she was wielding a long whip and driving the sturdy bear-like creature forward. She couldnt understand where the fear and unease in her heart came from when she saw the undead wizard. She could feel herself being very mindful of his actions, just like a student who is always worried that their teacher will give them a bad evaluation.

This feeling made Vilna very uncomfortable. Even in the city of dark elves, facing her own mistress, she had never been so careful and considerate of others feelings.

But why be so cautious when facing this necromancer? Is it because of his occupation as a mage? Verena wasnt unfamiliar with mages, but why did this necromancer give her a feeling that was different from others?

  "Clang... Clang!!"

Just as Verna fell into contemplation, a heavy stone knocking sound came suddenly. Before Verna could come to her senses, a mournful cry sounded from the front. Immediately following that, by the side of the group, those "stones" which originally looked harmless and were piled up in a corner suddenly stood up, they swung their huge claws and launched an attack on the team before them!

Upon hearing this voice, Verns complexion changed suddenly.

"Its not good, its a Terror Claw!!"
