Chapter Thirty-Seven: Unexpected Guest

  Things happened too fast.

Before Alice could recover from the dazzling white light, she saw the armored warriors charging forward in big strides and engaging in a fierce battle with the goblins. They wielded their long swords and shields, and it didn't take long for them to easily slaughter the goblins like fallen flowers flowing down a stream. The goblins, apparently not expecting anyone to launch a surprise attack on them, were caught off guard and didn't last long before they let out shrill cries and fled in disarray.

It wasn't until then that Elsie felt at ease and carefully sized up the people in front of her.

They wore uniform armor, with heavy helmets on their heads and steel shields and long swords in their hands, which were engraved with some kind of strange pattern, looking like a badge. More than ten people appeared in front of Eris, including four or five fully armored warriors, as well as a middle-aged man wearing white armor and holding a guandao, and three men wearing leather armor, carrying bows and arrows, and holding daggers. Their attire was quite neat, and at first glance, it was clear that they came from the same organization. After driving away the goblins, they immediately formed a defensive formation, being vigilant all around while approaching Eris' direction - but in fact, Eris did not want them to get so close.

Not only that, but after seeing them, Elise also immediately raised her vigilance.

Because these people gave her a very bad feeling...

  "Miss, how are you?"

Soon, the dwarves were completely driven away, and it wasn't until then that one of them took off his helmet, revealing a clever and capable face with a radiant smile like sunshine looking at Elise in front of him. As soon as he opened his mouth, he spoke fluent Common Language, and upon hearing his words, Elise's heart sank, she was almost certain of the other's true identity now.

This is a group of humans.

"No, I'm not hurt... thank you..."

As she thought of this, Elise lowered her head and spoke in a soft voice. She originally had a face that looked very gentle, and with the circumstances of being alone, it was easy to attract people's sympathy. When the warrior saw Elise's appearance, he also showed a warm expression.

"Don't worry, we're here. These underground demons won't harm you. Beautiful miss, what's your name? And which team do you belong to?"

  "This..."

  "Wait a minute, sir."

Just as Elise was hesitating about what to say, suddenly, the man in white robes walked over. He stared at Elise, carefully examining her from head to toe, and Elise felt his gaze, lowering her head, but biting her lip with some indignation. The man's gaze towards her was not evil, but it carried an inexplicable sense of eeriness and discomfort.

However, the other party did not seem to notice Eris's displeasure. On the contrary, he simply raised his left hand holding a badge and loudly praised a few words. Then, he saw that the badge emitted a pure white light, wrapping Eris in it. The dazzling light made Eris involuntarily narrow her eyes, while magical energy had already begun to condense in her palms, accumulating momentum for release——it seemed that this guy was the one who created the white light just now.

As he gazed at Iris for a few seconds, the man put away the badge in his hand and nodded to the warrior beside him.

"She's clean, adult, not one of those evil subterranean creatures."

  "I'm perfectly clear."

When the warrior heard the man's words, he was somewhat displeased, but he still nodded slightly to Eri with a hint of apology. However, Eri's eyes changed subtly, and she lowered her head without saying anything else. Seeing Eri's expression, the warrior also felt some regret, hesitated for a moment, and finally spoke up with a bitter smile.

"I'm sorry, miss. You know as well as I do that the Shadow Realm is not like our world; it's fraught with danger... But tell me, where are the others? Why are you here alone? Can you tell us what happened? Maybe we can help you."

  "I don't know either."

For these people, Elise could only be evasive, shaking her head and saying a few vague words.

"I just kept running, kept running..."

"Do you still remember which road you ran back from?"

  "This... I forgot."

"I know, please come with us, we're heading back to the base anyway. It's good for each other to have someone to rely on along the way. This place is already too deep in the dark region... ...But speaking of which, you're really lucky. Earlier, we encountered a group of evil gray dwarves here. If we weren't vigilant, who knows, we might have fallen into their trap..."

As she listened to the other's incessant chatter, Elise didn't say a word on the surface, but her bright eyes were flashing with an eerie glow - it was clear that the killer of these gray dwarves had already been found.

  "Captain……!"

Just as the warrior was about to say something else to Eris, a voice suddenly came from not far away, causing him to involuntarily turn his head and look in the direction of the sound.

"What's wrong, what did you find..."

But the warrior's words were cut off because at this moment, Eris made her move.

The girl let out a soft hum, and the next moment her slender body suddenly burst into a fierce red flame that roared towards the warrior in front of her. The warrior didn't even have time to react before being engulfed by the flames, letting out a miserable cry as he fell to the ground.

  "You................!!"

The scene before her left everyone else in shock, but Elise wasn't about to let the opportunity she had finally grasped slip away. She raised her right hand, and a dark red, icy beam filled with negative energy immediately pierced through the middle-aged pastor's body, who was wearing a white robe, sealing his unfinished incantation on the other side of death. The flames of death burned his internal organs from the inside out, bursting forth from his eyes and mouth, ravaging everything.

All of this happened almost simultaneously, so that the other members at this moment still hadn't figured out what was going on. They couldn't imagine why the girl they had just rescued would change into a fearsome killing god in such a short time. But now there was no more time to think about these things, because Eris had already launched a full-scale attack on them.

As a high-ranking mage, Elise's strength was beyond doubt. Previously in the underground city, she had only been unable to exert her power due to the natural opposition of the five elements. However, now facing these living people, she showed no mercy whatsoever. Elise's eyes swept around the surroundings, and then she lightly stomped her foot. In an instant, flames erupted from under the thieves' feet, perfectly enveloping them. At the same time, Elise's hands did not idle either. Her white, delicate fingers drew a magnificent circle in the air, and immediately dozens of dark red magical projectiles shot out, violently striking the remaining warriors like a stormy rain. Wherever they hit, sparks flew everywhere, and the burning flames grew even more intense, connecting with each other.

In the blink of an eye, all the people who were originally standing here had fallen to the ground. They either died in the flames or were still struggling in agony, but they were not far from death. The flames were not ordinary flames, but a collection of negative energy. No matter how it was released, its effect on those hit by it was no different from death.

  "Monster!!"

In the flames, only one warrior escaped the disaster, perhaps because he was protected by his companions, and he did not suffer much damage. It was also for this reason that he was able to dodge Eris's attack and launch a counterattack against her with a loud roar.

The warrior's speed was swift, the trajectory of his long sword simple, direct and rapid, embodying the blood and crystallization of a seasoned fighter. There was no distance between him and Eris anymore, this sword could cut through her body without any obstacles, while Eris obviously didn't have enough time to chant another protective spell.

  Maybe it's not necessary either.

  "Ah."

With a soft sound, Elise's outstretched right hand fingers easily pinched the downward slashing long sword blade. Although the warrior seemed to have used all his strength, the long sword didn't even budge, and those slender white fingers were like a tiger clip at this moment, restricting the opponent's further action.

  "How despicable!! You monster!!"

Feeling the terrible power, the warrior let out a silent scream. However, Eris's movements were faster than he had imagined. With a flick of her wrist, the sharp and hard long sword was snapped in two with a "crack" sound. Then, she saw Eris's finger lightly tap, and the shining cold light pierced through the warrior's throat. The poor man stretched out his hand, desperately grasping at his own throat, staring at Eris with wide eyes, opening his mouth as if wanting to say something, but then he fell headfirst to the ground, motionless.

  "Breath..."

It wasn't until then that Elise let out a breath, she swept her gaze over the warriors' corpses on the ground, and with a flick of her cloak, flames erupted from her sleeves and engulfed the bodies, reducing them to piles of black dust in no time.

But Elise's expression didn't relax because of this, she walked slowly to another pile of dust and stretched out her hand to pick up something buried in it, carefully observed it for a moment, then Elise's expression changed, and she shook her head, turned around and walked towards the other passage of the cave.

No matter what, this thing must be told to the Lord of the Underground City as soon as possible!
